!!! crazy moment!!

Fafe stages will obviously be used (maybe twice), but if the scenery and the people's passion are the same, their behavior is totally different. Since the 90's there was a general improvement at the spectator's security levels, so there's no need to bring those videos back.

Instead, take a look at this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfRonH5tN7w

Hope to see you at Fafe in June!

However, It will be an opportunity for to reborn some fantastic stages where has wrote a lot of pages of world rally championship history.

A big shame that Luílhas will not used, and Fafe only have one stage :/

But the itinerary looks ok to a great show. Lousada will be awesome.

I will see:

Lousada
Ponte de Lima 1 and 2
Amarante 1 and 2
Fafe 1 and 2

+1 Francis

Especially spectator-wise the stage looks uninteresting and dangerous. There are almost no places where you can have a good view without putting yourself at risk... What will organizers do for spectators? Normally put them in some spectator-areas and keep them there, like in Algarve? The problem is that this stage doesn't give organizers the opportunity to make a nice spectator-area. I was in Portugal in 2013, drove several stages (shakedown, Mu, Santana da Serra, Loulé, Silves and Almodovar completely). They were nice, especially Santana da Serra is a very difficult stages for drivers. It's a shame that both marshalls and police treated spectators like shit...

It's your opinion. For instance, this was the Didier Auriol's favourite stage. Don't forget, those are just the firsts km and it's wrong to evaluate a stage using a video.

2007 was the first year after the WRC exclusion period of the rally. There was an extra care towards spectator behavior. Last years on the south things get a little softer but there's an expectation that on this year return to the north organizers will again apply a zero tolerance crowd control.

I was in Portugal 2013 and strongly disagree, for spectators it's the worst event I've been to so far (worse than France-Alsace). Police and marshalls don't have respect for spectators at all, you have a few "boxes" where you are allowed and that's it. At least that was 2013.

It is true that the organization tries that everyone stay in the official areas, but just to avoid problems with security. But as I said, this is not a problem because there is several areas prepared by the organization in every SS, all very different from each other, with all that you need and more.
I see no problem staying in spectator zones, if they are different, spectacular, large and with good conditions, which is definitely the case of Portugal. As a matter of fact, in relation to spectator zones, Portugal should be one of the best events in whole championship.

Like someone said before, the majority of spectator zones in the south of Portugal were great, and anyone could previously chose them on the rally guide videos.

I'm also a hardcore rally fan and it was a bit difficult accepting to be restrained in a box, but I understand the organizers security concern. A major event like this attracts a lot of silly people that simply don't know how to behave.

MartijnS, you can come to Portugal without fear...shooting season has ended on 1st of March!-)

Teardrop
3rd March 2015, 12:05
It is true that there was some organization's obsession with security, for example, keep the largest possible number of people in spectators zones. But all this was due to serious safety problems that happened in the 80's and 90's. Every year the organization becomes increasingly more relaxed about it. We may not have liked much of this attitude, but the truth is that the Rally of Portugal does not have any major problems with security, which is almost a rarity in the entire championship. That said, I think this conversation has been exaggerated from the start. In recent years everyone could go to other locations outside the spectators zone. The only thing that could happen were worse access roads and/or prohibited access due the landowners. Do not worry that no one takes shots because of that or go to jail :). But this year with the move to north, the paradigm will change a little bit... much larger crowds means more flexibility and not the opposite. It seems a paradox, but the organization have no choice...they will have to allow public in other areas and expected that they will behave well. The re-education of security that has been made in recent years will be put into practice now. This will be the biggest test, so there are also risks associated with this change of location to the north. But I believe that everything will go well.
Don't hesitate, if you want to see real passion for rallying, a great party everywhere and massive crowds around all the areas, you must come here and see with your own eyes...
To prove my theory, you will see the amount of people who will be present to see the tests from the official teams that should happen in the coming weeks to prepare the rally.
The expectation and excitement are huge, for sure it will be a memorable weekend. Otherwise, you will be very regret when you see the footage on TV :)... Believe me, you will see crowds that you never seen before...or at least for many years.

Reis Eduardo
4th March 2015, 00:13
We expect that to happen. However I have some doubts that a greater number of public means greater flexibility in security and I think even if it will be a fatal mistake for the organizers of the rally of Portugal.

I've been to Alsace in 2010 (not strict at all), 2011 (more strict) and 2012 (very strict), and to Portugal in 2013 (very strict). In my opinion, from what I experienced, Portugal was worse than Alsace in 2012. It's quite simple, you can go to public areas, nothing more. The public areas in Southern Portugal were not that bad by the way, in most cases there were plenty areas per stage and the visibility was good. Of course this year it's a completely different event, in North, and I expect the safety measures to be even more extreme. If you are not happy with the public areas, you should choose some other event. ;)

Wow. What you say makes me afraid . I wasn't in Alsace in 2012, but I was there in 2013 and 2014. In 2013 it was a drama. Access to stages were closed nearly 20 km before, the gendarmes were very strict, marshalls too. 2013 was the worst year for the French spectators. In 2014, it was slightly better (I must say that I cross mountains to find cool places without marshalls or gendarmes).

I come from Lyon in France, and I'm planning to go to Portugal in may. But all what is said about the security scares me. Do you think, even if I'm outside the public zone, but on a slope of 3 high meters, I will get fired?

By the way, I believe that the organization plans to close access to stages up to 5 hours before the start of the race. I do not imagine the mess it will be ...

There will be 30 public zones (3 or 4 per stage). Public is allowed just there. But this zones are the best spots to see the rally. With support infraestructures, best road access, better visibility and safety. Some of them have cover of about 1 km of stage.
The only problem, if it is really a problem, is the big amount of public.

Hallo guys...

I’m reading on this forum for while. So now it’s time for my first post (I’m nervous :) ) because we are going to spectate rally Portugal. For me, there are one or two questions about this rally.

In general, rally Portugal is for free? We just need tickets for the super special in Lousada. Is that correct?

So now it’s already sure that spectators are just allowed in those public zones. There are no possibilities to escape from those areas along the special stage? So for what I’m reading, it was maybe a mistake to choose this wrc event to watch. It is quite boring, and not my point of view to follow a rally...but flighttickets, car and hotel is already booked...

..and about the Fafe stage. We planned to watch the rally on the infamous nature stand at the short tarmac part before the jump. What do you estimate is the best time to go there without stuck in a traffic jam, Saturday night?

TURBO43

The north mountains are not that easy to climb, unless you rent a 4x4! This year rally will probably show a massive 4x4 parade. Many of us will be looking for spectators areas alternatives!

…good decision!! In Sardinia you can nearly stand where ever you want. I was last year there. Good maps on the event website, nice beaches around (for example Stintino in the north, half an hour drive from Alghero). In general I like Alghero much more than Olbia.

But now back to topic. Let’s wait and see how bad Portugal will really come for spectators. But not much positive vibes on this forum from a spectator point of view…

Robert Kubica will return to the World Rally Championship at next week's Rally of Portugal driving one of the five all-new Ford Fiesta RS WRCs.

Preparation of the Polish star's car, pictured, is currently being finalised at M-Sport's Cumbrian headquarters, with the Fiesta expected to run for the first time before the weekend.

http://cdn.images.autosport.com/editorial/1431544067.jpg

Kubica's RK World Rally Team has purchased the car and will run it in association with M-Sport in Portugal, where the 2015-spec Ford will make makes its maiden WRC appearance.

The 2008 F1 Canadian Grand Prix winner was forced to miss the last round of the WRC in Argentina after failing to find agreement with A-Style - the Italian outfit which had run him on the first three rounds of this year's series - in efforts to restructure his campaign.

AUTOSPORT understands A-Style will not be involved with Kubica's entry next week.

All five new Fords coming from M-Sport are nearing completion, with Martin Prokop joining the rest of his team to put the finishing touches on his car ahead of its shakedown on Thursday.

The factory cars of Elfyn Evans and Ott Tanak have been through the shakedown process already, while Italian privateer Lorenzo Bertelli will drive the fifth.

With so much to show why they don't begin their own broadcast? One or two weeks before there was DTM. On their website there was live stream in 720p through youtube plus another stream with onboards only. Then a record of the whole race was uploaded in youtube. Easy, accessible, reliable. Does youtube want enormous money for that? Or any at all?

After looking at these amazing Monday testing vids what an amazing f###ing great weekend we have go ahead of us. No WRC -apart from the new Fiesta- cause we already know who will win and who will not and who crash out, but the WRC2 is the absolute climax of the weekend. Wow. Two works teams Skoda and the Pug, it will be comparison time! What is Toyota boy Camilli doing, is Sander Pärn's R5 price is justified? How about gravel specialists Nasser A-A, Jari Ketomaa and Yazeed? I'm very looking forward to Karl Kruuda on the world scene at last. Great to see Anders Grøndal as well. Tiny little problem we have to face here and that is the FIA is not taking this battle serious; no images, no footage. We will have to wait for the amateurs -luckily their quality is great- but still I hate the fact that probably the biggest thrill this weekend is not recognized by Mr Todt and it's promotion company.
Also JWRC and the young D-Mack dogs are on the run. Wow.

VW simulated engine failure on purpose so they can understand the engine's limits with a failed injector (component that caused retirements in Argentina).
This what they say anyway. It's either bullshit or an insight into what they are prepared to do to win.

That's interesting from technology point of view. I used to run my car on 4 cylinders for a long time and there wasn't terminal damage to it.... Of course the cause wasn't failed injectors, but head gasket, anyway the damage seems similar. But abstracting from the mechanical staff, may be it computer software break down after all..

It was when they found out how to repair it.

I think is gonna be an easy win for Ogier, it seems he is the only one who wants to win it.
Meeke: "my approach will be the same, mistake free rally, no big risks etc..."
Latvala: "I need to score, I try to go fast without taking too many risks etc..."

Translation of local report:

"Catastrophic". This is how many are looking at a possible cancellation of two stages of the Rally of Portugal due to the fire that reaches precisely the place of passage of the automotive world test. Nearly a hundred firefighters from four districts fight the flames. "You burn with some violence in the Exclusion Zone, Cabração and Moreira Lima," emphasize the Civil Protection authorities.

The organizers of the rally, which this year returns to the north, has provided two stages in Ponte de Lima, two prologues with 27,53 kilometers each for this zone. A situation that led the Central District of Viana do Castelo Relief Operations, which has the Ponte de Lima Fire commanding operations, asking for help to other districts.

Wondering why didn´t they just shorten the special stage but with decision yesterday. Even 2 x 10 km special stage instead of 2 x 27,5km would be "something for competition" but they should do the decision yesterday.
