I don't think second place is an exciting battle. JML is far superior to Ostberg on tarmac and already showing Mikkelsen the way home. The true excitement will start if Latvala can take 7 or 8 seconds back over 50 km.

He did learn, after Portugal. An event he had previously done, and another DNF. He said he needed to "reset" and drive more consistent.
Then came a 6th in Argentina (whoowho), then 8th in Italy albeit with the use of Rally 2, then back to old ways.
May be he should go motorcycle racing and just start the event with 2 wheels, save him having to knock them off.

His performances this year are exactly what I expected from him. The transition is incredibly difficult to make, even more so today when everybody amongst the front-runners is flat-out all the time. He simply doesn't have the experience at this level to match that pace and stay on the road. He probably won't have for years to come, either. I'm reminded of what Martin Brundle said about his Rally GB drive for Toyota — that he impressed the team by ending up a half a second a mile slower than his team-mates on one stage during testing he'd been over time after time, but then, come the rally itself, he found himself 15 seconds a mile slower. The same will surely be true of Kubica, even with his greater rallying experience. He's still finding his feet, and in trying to compensate for that he's probably over-driving, hence the regular crashes. Can the team afford to give him time to improve? I don't know.

Different eras, I know, but this puts into perspective how good Derek Warwick's performance on the 1990 RAC was — steadily getting quicker, setting faster times than some well-known names in similarly competitive equipment, and probably on for a top 10 finish had not mechanical problems intervened.

Might be, but strange that they all said the same thing then. But ok, we will see after service, maybe they can change something on set-up. Makes the battles even more interesting. Unfortunally i won't be home for the grand finale.
