So Japan at Suzuka. Its a track which is epic, but can lead to dull races to.

For the first times since around May, Lewis Hamilton takes charge of the Championship.

Interesting about the Typhoon but I wouldn't mind seeing some rain in the race anyway.

I guess the main thing to watch out for this weekend is the two championship rivals. Last time we went into a weekend with Hamilton leading (Monaco) Rosberg decided to cheat in qualifying to gain the upper hand. Time will tell whether he resorts to such unsavory tactics for the third time this season but hopefully he'll have learned his lesson.

Also of note is all these rumors of Alonso and Ferrari. I'd hate to see Alonso fail to get a title at Ferrari but I think considering what he given them and since they have yet to produce a car good enough for him to win the title I wouldn't blame him for leaving.

I can bring up whatever I want, just in the same way you can choose to respond and read whatever posts you want. There's plenty of reason to bring it up, the wonderment of seeing if history repeats itself. It's quite a valid topic imo. Too bad if you disagree. Anyway, we'll find out by Sunday :D

That'd be a pain if they started the race earlier. Since I am stuck in Europe this time of year, I would hope that it doesn't get moved to an earlier slot so I can have a reasonable sleep at least :p

Now we are getting a little bit clearer of a picture. According to this (http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/typhoon-delay-could-affect-russia-gp), the Japanese Grand Prix will probably be ok. The problem is the weather will be too bad after the race for the teams to make it to Russia with enough time to get ready for that race.

Horner said they went for wet wheather setup. Both also lost valuable running - RIC through his crash in FP2 and Vettel through yet another PU problem. You could say the same for Lewis in a way. He only lost about 10 mins of FP3 but it were the 10 mins werehe was supposed to simulate quali runs.

I also want to add I would be sad to see Button gone after this year. He is still usually good in races and Magnussen can't match his race consistency most of the time. Also Jenson is 34 years old, while in the past experienced drivers have usually retired at 36-37 or even later. But he could badly lose out in this fierce competition for seats.

There was obviously something occurring, the digger was stopped near the exit and the marshalls were waving and holding arms up in a cross, signing serious or that the race should be stopped. There also was a decent amount of debris the "wrong" side of the digger, which was where the doctor and marshalls were. No good signs here

There are some images of the aftermath at the Daily Mail. Looks really bad. All four wheels are off the car, indicating an extremely heavy hit, and the engine cover and most of the rear of the car are totally gone. Really, really, horrible. Hoping for the best but it really doesn't look good at all.

I would be upset if there were any serious head injury consequences to this as I have believed for some time there MUST be some sort of protection, a structure between cockpit and roll-hoop maybe, put in place. I think F1 has been perilously pushing it's luck for a long time in this area.

I dare say that a canopy in this incident would do far more damage with it being shattered and potentially bigger jagged bits being a real problem.
or the canopy getting pinned down and unable to open. an F1 canopy is a different thing from a le mans car, and plenty of time will have to go into testing etc
so far, its seems to be a freak incident and one that can never really be fully prepared for.

This accident, for example, seems on par with the canada incident at the end of the race, and perhaps that one was far more violent, it is just that digger and the fact that in the process of recovery another car went off. maybe extending a double waved yellow in the area and reducing the allowable speed might suffice. At most some sort of double yellow area speed limiter might be worth a look

I do think that F1 drivers heads are exposed to more danger than anything else. And this is the area where we are likely to get most serious accidents. Also recalling Massa in 2009.

As for the crash damage, maybe it's a sign that the car, rather than the driver, took most of the impact and energy if the chassis is smashed up?

it has been narrowly avoided in the past, I remember cars flying left and right of a crane before after a ham off for example... also extremely wet conditions.
No amount of yellows tell you exactly when you might hydroplane

Great race from Hamilton - he showed again today why he is the better driver. Nico is still to beat him in a straight fight from the front of the grid.

If it was a side impact then maybe the weight ballast on the cat may have missed bianchis lid and ripped off the air box.
