Mercedes have appointed DTM star Pascal Wehrlein as their Formula One reserve driver. Wehrlein, 19, became the youngest driver to win in the German touring car series on Sunday with a breakthrough victory at the Lausitzring.
The German has already worked for the Mercedes F1 team this season, completing more than 30 days in their simulator, and he drove a Formula One car for the first time last week at Portimao as part of a young driver evaluation test, completing 500 kilometres in a 2012 Mercedes F1 W03.
