In the last time I have moments when I'm charged with electricity, esp. when I'm at work. I feel little shocks whenever I touch objects like the metallic window, the fridge, a plant that I touch when I get my papers from the printer and even my coworkers hands. Yesterday I touched the phone and the shock was stronger than ever and the phone did a weird noise. I even saw sparks when I touched the vacuum cleaner in a dark room.. First it was fun and I remembered an excellent comedy (https://youtu.be/-FRb1naNbIo but now I'm a bit scared.

Off up to the hospital tomorrow afternoon. Have a meeting with her boss at Subway today to try and broker a deal to get her back into a job when she is well enough.
Visited Alicia in hospital. Poor lass is in a state. She also told me that she has detached the retina in her right eye and will loose up to 60% of the sight in it.
The really sad thing is that she did the damage when her face hit the steering wheel. Her car had airbags in it that didn't deploy, if they had worked the way the should she would have walked away with bruising and some friction burns from the bag. The car had been serviced (including air bags) by Toyota only 2 months ago, so we are not too thrilled with Toyota right now and they have much explaining to do.

Been a bad couple of weeks. Firstly my friend Alicia has a horror car crash and destroys the right side of her face.
Now my head office has just informed me and two colleagues in Wanganui (180km south) that the government agency that funds our courses has had it's budget cut by out pathetic leadership and our programmes will not be repurchased for next year. Meaning come the beginning of May I will be joining the line of the unemployed I have been spending the last 6 1/2 years of my life helping. I guess there is a certain irony to that :) :(

Anfield, that's a bugger isn't it!
Having once been made redundant I can guess how you feel. Trust me, a job will come along if you keep looking - often from an unexpected quarter. In my case I put my details through to the 40th agency I had come across. They found me a job. On the first day the agency rang up to say they had gone belly up. I had a word with the new employer and they gave me the names of agencies they normally used and I simply switched agents. After 3 years doing short term contracts (6 weeks to a year) I landed a job a bus ride away and stayed 20 years.
Fatherly advice bit: No matter how tight your budget, set aside a sum for 'treats'. If you hit one of the inevitable low points, a bag of toffees or a beer without feeling guilty is a great morale booster.

Thanks for the support my friends. To be honest I am slightly peeved, but we all known in this sector that our courses can be dropped by the government funding agencies at any time, so we live in a state of being semi-prepared for this sort of thing. I am far more worried about Alicia than my job. I will find something else, where as she has been told she will never see properly again, and the scars on her face will be visible for at least 6 years. So my petty job issues kind of fade into the background :)

At the moment yes, for the first time in a decade New Plymouth is struggling because the energy sector is not producing, thus has a knock on effect through the town. If I stay in New Plymouth (my preferred option) I wont find work in the areas I am currently working in. If I want to stay in this type of job, I will have to look to relocate.

Plus, it's an absolutely gorgeous day outside today. And after reading Anfield's posts and knowing that in an hour or so I'll be having dinner in a place where many/most would love to experience my worst day, as it's probably better than their best day... I was born on the other side of the world in Liverpool, and that will always be my spiritual home, but New Plymouth is a great place to be. On the sea, with the world's most awesome mountain in the back garden. People are good (most of them) Climate is not too hot in summer (ave 24-26 celcius) winter isnt too cold. Cost of living is ok, but housing is stupidly expensive compared to the rest of the country. If it wasn't for my career issues, especially with my personal life looking up (pretty girl wise :)) life here would be perfect.

No one, especially me will begrudge you this Jag, it is good that you are enjoying your break. As far as I am concerned, life is fine. I'm about to have a discussion with my travel office. For whatever reason, they decided to apply the option of the reimbursement of my actual expenses to my previous trip instead of the flat rate they normally use. In practical terms it means that normally I would get my per diem (pretty fat in this case) and use it the way I like. This time they would only reimburse what I actually spent, and what qualifies as necessary (meals and transportation). The difference is quite significant and I'm concerned...

Two things. I am not reimbursed all of my expenses. Just a part. Nobody told me the deal had changed. Had I known about it, I would have been spending more conservatively. E.g. I would have been using metro instead of taxi.
Second, I'm not a volunteer. I do my job, I get paid, I have a decent travel package. If they send me to an expensive city I need to have an acceptable standard of living.
What happened is not a disaster, though. It's still negotiable, and I might still get reimbursed. I'm just pretty sensittive when it comes to money.

When putting in your expenses, don't forget the gratuities. You are always a generous tipper, aren't you?
And taxis - the driver pulled a knife on you when you asked for a receipt.
And at the same time quote your actual hours worked, including reading paperwork in the evening in your hotel room. If they won't pay demand time off in lieu - you'll find there's something like that in your conditions of contract. Is Belarus in the EU? Or was this assignment in the EU? If so the EU directives regarding maximum working hours apply.

No, Belarus is not in EU and will not be there in the foreseeable future. I actually work for a country, which is not in EU either. Now I physically work in a third country, and the per diem thing happened in yet another country. Quite complex, eh? ;)
I'll be alright, though. I negotiated it. They amended my paperwork and I will get my reimbursement.
I also should mention that I do a lot of things pro bono. Once I couldn't concentrate on an important document in my office because of an incessant wave of petty taskers. I did it in two sleepless nights at home with Miles Davies in my ears. I did the follow-up to that doc on the balcony of a hotel during my vacation having a monster hangover, because I did not want to miss a deadline. I am also a generous tipper. I worked as a waiter for while, and I have sympathy for other waiters. one has to have a really bad attitude to not receive tips from me.

Allergies do that to me this time of year, every year for the past 30 years or so. I'm not joking and I'm not saying that's what you're experiencing. But according to a doctor I saw a long time ago, some people do experience real emotional lows caused by seasonal factors (for some people, it's the onset of Winter). I was in your position back at the end of March. We had a meeting to tell us that the company was in trouble financially and they needed to lose people. They asked for staff to come forward if they wanted to take voluntary redundancy. I didn't put myself forward as the Design Manager (my boss) told me there was no way they would get rid of me. It was bad timing as I was due to go on holiday for 2 weeks at the beginning of April.
I came home to a letter telling me I was redundant! Two other designers were up too. They decided to keep the junior designer on because of his cheap salary and get rid of three senior staff. I was gutted for about a week but have ended up getting a job as a Design Engineer for a lot more money and only a few miles from home. Before I was commuting 40 miles each way so it shows things happen for a reason and usually work out!

I missed it too and found out the result accidentally on purpose lol. I doubt i'll bother watching it to be honest. I've only caught one race live this season and seen 3 or 4 highlights shows from the rest. Most of my catch up has been reading about it in the web. My interest has faded of late hence why I rarely visit these days... :)

I think that I've come to the conclusion that:
Treaty of Versailles (1918) + Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia (1968) = The Economic Conditions Imposed by the Troika on Greece (2015)
When you have the Troika impose conditions, which are backed by countries which also have had austerity imposed on them (like Latvia and Ireland), then the conditions can't be great. The Greek Government now effectively has zero control over it's own Fiscal or Monetary Policy and is still expected to achieve something.
Basically Greece is cussed beyond all cussing cuss and is totally cussed.

Matter of fact the finger is immobilised in a thick half-arm long gypsum bandage. At 37C it made me sweat like a pig, at 16C it makes impossible wearing a warm jacket. :s

Generally not. Yesterday I was out in short sleeve T-shirt and felt like an alien. Everybody was wearing boots and autumn coats.
But you must take into account that 16 was the max. temp and during night it's lower. If tonight I go out for a beer on a terrace I'd need some warm clothes. Maybe jacket wasn't the proper word. I meant a sweater with buttons on front or a blazer.
Now it's 12 am and 15°.

Can`t believe that in good old absurdistani tradition I did a radiography on the first floor that couldn`t be sent to a computer on the third floor. After a few trips between the floors and a complete humiliation of yours truly, the doctor on the third floor decided that someone should get down to radiology and take a picture of my radiography with a smartphone. It happens in the 21st century in a top hospital of an EU country capital.

I hate television so much that I was considering getting drunk, taking an ax and smashing my TV this weekend. Then I realized that I don't have an ax, I don't drink anymore and I wouldn't be home this weekend. But when I got home last night, I found this show called Granite Flats on my Roku box. It looked like a kids' show, set in the early 1960's. But it's not a kids' show. It features kids in the cast and it is family friendly, but it's also the best written, directed and acted television program I have seen in YEARS! It's something of a Cold War spy thriller set in a small town.
Watch it! Do what I did and binge watch it (Netflix or Roku). If you've lost faith in (American) television, this might save you from shopping for an ax and a bottle of Jack Daniels.

I just moved to a new country (will be here a year or more)
It's very difficult moving and setting up, especially with an over-enthusiastic 3 yr old in tow, but we are taking this up as a challenge :p:
USGP comes too quickly for me to think about going, perhps something else early next year...any good racing or rallying near the South/East Coast? (this is for the Americanos)

This is from the summet of one of the highest peaks around Loch Ness. Nowhere near Ben Nevis but a decent view of Loch Ness.

I rarely post any more either. I've only watched 2 full F1 races this season and the rest have been highlights, sometimes catching them days after the race.
I'm not afraid to admit I got bored of F1 and have been focusing on family on Sunday's and other interests. I still follow to loosely through habit but the excitement has dwindled for me.
Nice to pop in though, hi guys and dolls. :)

I bought him in 2005 when I went to Scotland. Nessie.
I took him as a mascot in 2007 and 2008 when I also visited Scotland.
So when I decided to go back this year, I dug him out of the cupboard and he has sat on my car dashboard for the 560 mile (902 KM) journey. He also comes along on walks as a good luck mascot.
There you are. Here he would be called a "soft toy"

Most of us have a kid inside ourselves but aren't tough enough to admit it. That kid in you is the one that make you smile ( in all pictures :). ), enjoy even the small things ( like flowers ) and believe that any of us has a good side even if we don't show it.

That was that distance in total. Took me a bit over 7 hours to do the 400 miles from Edinburgh to home. Not bad.
Amazed my old car did not conk out. :D
Why do you wish I had a longer holiday? :p
gadjo_dilo
24th September 2015, 22:06
I know it was half of the distance. But I also know ( ) that you left Edinburgh quite late. In my country roads are crap and on the few highways there are speed restrictions, that's why I'm impressed.
I wish you stayed longer to relax and enjoy Nessie's company as you seemed to have a good time.

I went up to the Highlands around Loch Ness and Kyle of Loch Alsh. It wasnt for very long although I treated the driving as part of it as its nice driving up there.
This was a short notice thing so was only for 5 days. Plan to go again for a longer period next time.

Those damned 'good' guys with guns have let America down for the 294th time in 2015. If only someone in America had guns.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants and especially school children as often as possible.

SO far so good, averaging in the mid 70's across the three papers, having an extremely poor tutor for Law makes it quite difficult. She marked my first test and gave me 68%, on reading through it I found another 10 marks she had not given me even though my answers contained all of the aspects of her 'model answer'. I don't complain much, but that sort of thing is quite annoying. :)
