Great! I've been looking forward to the biggest sporting event in the world getting underway this weekend!

Can't wait, gutted that I'll miss most of it :(

Anyone know a way of listening other than through Radio Le Mans online? I'll be driving for most of Sunday and would love to be able to have updates without going sky high on my data usage on the phone (it;s a works phone and I'll be castrated if I over use it!)

Free practise currently stopped. Massive accident for Loic Duval in the Audi. By all accounts, he conscious and talking.

Is that in the Porsche Curves

Obviously a big smash, not very nice at all and good to see the Audi team saying that he's unhurt.

Looks like Toyota have the speed and unsurprisingly Porsche are a bit of the pace of the other teams. Hopefully Audi can be there or there abouts to make a race of it, especially given that Duval was quick with limited laps before the accident.

MrJan
11th June 2014, 22:43
Audi confirm that Loic Duval is unhurt apart from 2 grazes!!! As Adam Cooper highlighted it looks like the car went in backwards, but that's still extremely lucky and a testament to the build of the car. As last year sadly showed us fatalities in this sport are not a thing of the past, but safety has certainly come a long way.

Not seen footage of the crash (only the aftermath) but reminds me of the Gene accident on the same corner a few years ago, which was another huge one.

First Red of Qualifying has just past. I never realised that they had to open the roads again pretty much straight after Quali.

Its nice to see some new teams and car combos around this season.

Loving the look of that Nissan

Session ended now, seeing the pictures of a trashed Aston made me fear the worst but driver okay. Session stopped early because of repairs to barriers, they really need to sort these things out as it seems to be a common theme in recent years.

Is that allowed? I thought modern regs had a section stating each driver cannot race to much of the 24 hours?

I suppose as long as they do not run 6 hours each at a time and do 3/3/3/3/3/3/3/3 it will be ok?

I have a sudden engagement which means I will probably miss the first hour or so. I may have to watch delayed. Or certainly not post in that time.

I like the new Yellow Slow Zone. Great way to clear gravel or debris on a small scale without SC are endangering Marshalls

I will probably be watching up to about 1am and then will have to go to bed. Will try and catch a couple hours in the morning but from 10am onwards I'll be relying on a decent 3g connection on my phone and Radio le Mans on TuneIn.

Official Le Mans site has a much better stream than in previous years.

First safety zone used, great idea to deal with the minor problems that normally just get left (such as gravel all over the track at the chicanes).

Gutted to see the Zeod fall by the wayside, was looking forward to that.

Me too

It seems terminal. Sad

Yep, gearbox stuff apparently. There's a certain irony that it's the old fashioned mechanical part of the car to fail, not the fancy dancy electrical stuff.

First hour flew by, only another 23 to go! Seems like Toyota have the pace but will be interesting to see how fuel stops and reliability shake out. Seem to remember Toyota suffering a bit from the later over the last two years. Plus the 7 car has just been reported for unsafe release so a possible penalty to come which negates a lot of what they gained while the 2 & 3 cars were getting themselves by the Porsches.

MrJan

SC out and chaos

MrJan
14th June 2014, 16:32
Audi #3 looking in a pretty bad way. Got mixed up with the #8 Toyota and a Ferrari on Mulsanne. Poor barriers look like they will again cost us a good 30 minutes plus of race time.

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 16:41
Where is everyone else on this forum. We at least had about 5 or 6 on here last season. Seems like only us 2 now, sad state of affairs.

MrJan
14th June 2014, 16:47
Never seems that popular and it's nice weather out. If I wasn't supposed to be working then I'd be outdoors too. Suspect we'll get a few more later in the day when it reaches a better time of day in the US and Aus.

Amazing reply onboard that Porsche of the Toyota skittling out all the others. Looks like someone up ahead had slowed and all the others were slowing down but Lapierre didn't spot it until too late.

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 16:54
Yes.

Toyota #8 and Sam Bird clearly came across a group of slowing cars. Toyota spun and smashed the wall. While the Ferrari obviously hit the Audi.

The replay from on board the Porsche GT gave the best view. It also looked like he had been in the wall as well.

MrJan
14th June 2014, 17:28
Wet again. Amazing to see shots of one SC driving in the sunshine and then go onboard with someone on the other side of the track who is having to go so slowly that they're falling behind the SC.

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 17:37
Some real crazy weather out there indeed. Some cars struggling to keep up with the SC

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 18:47
Why is P919 hybrid Nb.14 so far behind??

After only half an hour, they had a technical issue. I forget what but the spent about 5 laps in the pits. Then Toyota #8 and Audi #3 crashed off in a heavy rain shower. #3 retired and #8 is now about 10 laps down but still running.

MrJan
14th June 2014, 18:50
Why is P919 hybrid Nb.14 so far behind??

It seemed to switch itself to pit limiter mode early on and limped from Indianapolis back to the pits and then lost quite a bit of time being fixed.

#20 now seems to have a slim lead, benefiting a lot from the last SC

Guys, is there a better website to follow live timing than the official one?

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 19:04
Are you classing this as the official one? http://live.fiawec.com/

Cause I was watching live timing on Le Man site and move to FIA site.

makinen_fan
14th June 2014, 19:08
No I meant this one:
http://www.24h-lemans.com/live/en/

MrJan
14th June 2014, 19:28
I follow the 24h site, looks like same timings anyway. Like to have the option of a different video feed to what I'm getting on the Eurosport stream, although listening to Radio Le Mans means that the audio is about 30 seconds ahead.

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 19:38
http://live.fiawec.com/ is good. I follow that

MrJan
14th June 2014, 19:58
http://live.fiawec.com/ is good. I follow that

Pretty sure it's exactly the same data as what's on the 24h official site, certainly no additional information. Bonus of 24h is that you can minimise the main detailed timings to just have the key info and a small video thing (although you have to put it on mute to avoid the whiny american lass).

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 21:39
SC is out again.

I have to say this hasn't been the best start of Le Man I have ever seen. I remember a couple of the Audi v Peugeot battles raging full on for hours.

Anyway its still OK. Coming into my favourite time. Dusk into Dark

MrJan
14th June 2014, 23:21
We've had some crackers in recent years but think this still has promise. The Toyota is edging out a bit but think that reliability of the Audi will come into play soon. Shame that Porsche have dropped off a bit, early on looked like they might provide more of a challenge.

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 23:40
What happened to Porsche 20?

He was 3rd about 1:20 behind and then when I came back a while later (had to pop away from screen) he was 2 laps down.

I agree though it could still be a great race. Only 1:30 between them.

Doc Austin
15th June 2014, 05:41
What a great shame for the #7 Toyota. They totally controlled the race right up until they fell out.

steveaki13
15th June 2014, 08:16
Amazing really, but now we are surely down to Audi #1 v Porsche #20 battle.

MrJan
15th June 2014, 08:54
Just woke up what happened to the 7 car?

steveaki13

I am not 100% but they stopped in the pits with a fire on the car somewhere and retired a little later.

Audi #1 briefly stopping out on track, and then getting going again.

Strange situation. Luckily had over a lap lead.

Still going slowly. Could Porsche win this race.

More chaos, with Porsche 20 retiring.

Audi #2, Audi #1 and Toyota #8 the top 3. Porsche #14 in trouble too? Could be a Rebellion 4th?

Audis #2 and #1 line astern now, unless there's a blow up in the last half hour, that is how they'll stay.

Mark Webber limping into the pits, feeling really gutted for him.

Its turned into quite an eventful race.

And we are in the final minutes of another years 24 hour racing. Sad not to have anyone apart from Mr Jan to chat with. Last year was good chat on the thread, this year poor.

So poor I went to ten tenths to join their thread.

Anyway looks like its all over now.

Congrats to Audi for a brilliant job ! Toyota again amazing in the first part of the race, shame...
Porsche-quite a disater; they came to win (if somebody thinks that Porsche was here just to get some expirience for 2015, is very wrong...), they even lost fight in LM GTE Pro and GTE Am class.....

Good race, just about had a decent enough 3g signal in the car to pick up most of it...although all the ups and downs confused me a bit. Certainly one to keep us guessing and the professionalism and reliability of Audi really shone through.

For the first time in probably 15-20 years, I wasn't able to follow the race on TV and/or on the internet for most of the 24 hours. :( What little I got to see (on DVR) was good. And even though they've been dominate, I find it amazing that Audi was THAT solid over Porsche.

What I most enjoyed was the varied technical approaches. Let's see if I can get this right.
Audi: 4.0 liter V6 turbo diesel with a 2 MJ flywheel hybrid system.
Toyota: 3.7 liter V8 petrol with a 6 MJ super capacitor hybrid system.
Porsche: 2.0 liter V4 turbocharged petrol with a 6 liter battery hybrid system.

Other than being incredibly ugly now (I guess because of the new regs), the cars are quite distinctive from one another. It's great that they are allowed a certain amount of technical freedom.
