Mercedes try new exhaust trumpet but Nico say they not work much.

Heres Ferrari trying them in action.

It at least shows fans opinions count in some area's. I would trade a loud exhaust for more coverage on TV though as this is a more concerning factor for fans IMO.

Me so glad such a major problem of F1 is addressed . This 'competition' has become a joke

This was a bit of cynical lip service by Merc here , though .
They should be derided for such a joke .

This attempt was never going to work , and , to be sure , they knew it .

A straight-sided cone , rather than a curved bell , was used , and that's not what a trumpet looks like .

This was a stupid , waste of time response to a stupid , waste of time issue .

If you can't deal with F1 the way it is, you're really not going to like Formula E.

The exhaust trumpets are another fake gimmick like DRS and mandatory option tires. It's not so surprising that the more fake F1 becomes, the more the actual racing suffers.

You can't fake racing. You would think the clowns running the show would have figured that out by now.

They are doing their best to screw Formula E up as well , with the car change .
But , the sound frequency seems actually a little closer to the scream of the V8s , albeit , a lot quieter .
It might generate some of the same excitement when they finally put a bunch of them together .

These "trumpets" are not built like trumpets , with a trumpet-shaped opening , which is what they would have brought to the table if they really wanted to produce more sound .
It would not have been pretty in any aero guy's eyes , but there you have it , a total waste of time .

I don't follow Formula E but I guess the noise there could be a safety issue as well... maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure though that in F1 it is just another part of the 'show'. It's funny they're really not doing anything about the penis noses.

You know what you are getting with Formula E in terms of engine noise before you start watching. An electric formula will always provide quiet running but it's new racing and will be interesting from a different perspective. Formula one has always been loud, exciting and you've had a sense of power with it being the top level motorsport so it's in a bit of a pickle right now.

That design was never going to work. They needed it to be mounted with duct tape and a philips head screw. ;)

Lets face it, if they went to a suburban fast food carpark on any Saturday night they could easily find a dozen fart cans that sound better than a 2014 F1 V6.

Rather than metal, maybe the solution can be found using a bicycle inner tube...
