Ominous early form from Ferrari, and Kimi in particular, meanwhile nothing much to choose between the times from 4th downwards, and an encouraging mix of cars, good to see Honda perhaps finding a little more pace and moving in the right direction, but lets face it, there is only one direction they can move in. i can see an interesting fight develping between BMW, Williams, Toyota and maybe Red Bull. i'm sure Williams would love to start putting one over both BMW and Toyota, and its great to see them maintaining their form considwering how written off they were after last seasons disaster

Didn't Kimi do a 33.1 in the first session? That would put him almost 0.5 up on the rest of the grid. If Kimi leads lap 1 he'll walk this one.

janneppi
14th April 2007, 07:11
Yes, Kimi posted two of the fastest times in yesterday, Hamilton was second fastest when pretty much everyone but Kimi pmproved their times in second session.
I i were to guess in a optimistic way, i'd say Kimi had more fuel in the second session. ;)

MaximumAttack
14th April 2007, 09:18
Actually Kimi said he could have go a lot faster in the 2nd session, but due to the traffic he couldn't get a clean lap at the end of the session. So that explains the small gap between him and Hamilton. I expect that Ferrari still has at least 0.5 sec advantage to McLarens.

Yes I hope so too, but I have a funny feeling that Ron Dennis is going ti screw up his strategy. Run him heavy again, and use the same stupid pit stop strategy he used Malaysia. LH hasn't put a foot wrong so far in Bahrain, and with new engines, should be given an equal opportunity to race for the win. I hope he takes pole and forces Ron Denni's hand. I wonder how much say he has in determining his own fuel load, tyre strategy etc, in the team. I am sure alonso has that type of freedom. I don't mean down to the nitty gritty, but choices like, " I want to run lighter than in Malaysia in the first stint, and I want to run my hard compound tyres in the scond stint please"

but seriously, Hamilton did a phenominal job and Massa redeemed himself, the two protagonists in their respective teams are trying to make statements.

yes. he seems to be a better qualifier at the moment but his race speed and acumen is questionable in comparison to kimmi. I wonder if kimmi would have got stuck behind heidfeld for the entire race. let's home he steps up his game.

My prediction though is that both LH and Kimmi will pass him at the start.

I have yet to see Kimi look anything - I certainly couldn't spot anything different at the press conference today. Anyhow, being quick in one lap can only get you so far, as Massa painfully learned in Malaysia ;)

looks like Alonso and Kimi both slightly heavier than Hamilton and Massa, both approx 1/2 second gaps, i think both teams are just covering each other, No Doubt in fact.

Massa did a good job, but i think in the race he'll struggle to keep Kimi behind him, especially after the stops, unless he can keep a McLaren or 2 between them

The start is crucial for the front four tomorrow. How they line up after the last lap may be the order in which they finish the race.

Robinho
14th April 2007, 17:22
i'm not so sure Ian, what with the seemingly slightly differing fuel loads, close comparison between the cars and the hard tyre being significantly slower there is plenty of scope for changes, even if they don't occur on track, although the nature of this circuit seems to bring mistakes and offers a decent chance of overtaking as well.

I don't really think so, as Alonso and Raikkonen will stop three laps after their teammates (Kimi maybe 4 behind Felipe); my bets are Massa on lap 18th, Hamilton one lap behind, and Kimi and Fernando on lap 22nd.
