How bad is the road damage?

s. "It's horrible. The ruts are getting worse and worse. I spun on corner before the finish in a very fast corner. I couldn't hold the steering any more," said Neuville, who dropped 32.3sec.

There are ruts over a foot deep after seven cars. It's a disgrace," said a clearly upset Meeke.

Is it because of the ruts back drivers are slow? are the ruts giving advantage for Ogier because he is first on the road?

This happens when you have a very weak sport...one team dictating what is going to happen. If there were 2-3 strong manufacturers i doubt VW would cancel the stage with such ease to protect the lead...

VW was actually benefitted by the road conditions.

jonkka
27th June 2014, 15:34
On the first run yes, on second the conditions are equally hazardous to everybody. Hence, NOT is correct in saying that cancellations serves VW's interests. But I doubt VW influenced the decision in any way.

VW was actually benefitted by the road conditions.

Yes they WERE...

but now the danger for them retiring is far bigger...first of all because they did not run the rutted roads and they have no idea how to amend the notes for the 2nd... while the drivers who ran low in the order now will have better notes...

plenty of fans have stated before rally, that stages at Lithuania will not cope at wrc cars pass for 2nd time.If i remember right i had read already here something like that.
That organization cant keep fans inside safe zones is again their fault.
That fia choosed Poland to organize a wrc event is their choice after they asked the entry for 3 years.

I think that mistake was to inclue such a stages from Lithuania. There are much better roads than these but somehow they chose the roads that locate nearly in the middle of nowhere and have never seen such a pressure by cars.

Maybe they should have kept Poland as Tarmac.....??

Poland was tarmac ten years a go. The gravel roads are great. They are soft especially when wet but why not? It's a kind of challenge. Anyway have a look on the footage from last years ERC editions. There were heavy rains through the rally and I am pretty sure it was much worse than today. Those Lithuanian stages seem to be a mistake though.

It is the organisers' fault to use roads that have not been proven in the past. Did the FIA push them to include the Lithuanian stages, or was it their own decision?

I am so agree with you. Like I told you before, there are many nice rally roads in Lithuania and they choose some forrest paths at the end of World.. that means 4 km from Belarussian border where you need visa to go further south than 4 km. This is beautiful region but these roads are not for WRCars.
