As the rally is a little later this year, any chance of better weather than last year?

RICARDO75
15th February 2014, 15:40
I also hope for good weather but, you never know until the start of the rally. In previous years, has always been good before the rally start but, when it comes the week of the event, usually get worse.

As the rally is a little later this year, any chance of better weather than last year?

For some reason whenever there is a rally on Sao Miguel Island the rain appears in force.

I remember a year, 2006, the rallye was in middle of July and the weather was like winter. Loots of rain, wind and fog. When the last car finished the last stage the sky opened and the sun appeared.

Iraquiano
15th February 2014, 21:13
Yes, and I remember 2010(? or maybe 2011?), it was in July too, at Graminhais and in the beggining of Tronqueira was thick fog and rain, and at the end of Tronqueira you literally didn't have a cloud in the sky. You don't need to go so far, last year Sete Cidades stage seemed like two completely diferent stages at the start and finnish...

Compare the begginig with the 12th min for example ;)

Btw, according to ralisonline, Giacomo Costenaro will be at Azores with a 207 S2000, not a big name, but it's always a pleasure to see the 'old' 207 on our stages.

Changes of plans for lithuanian M.Samuitis. He will miss Greece, but probably will drive in Acores.

Iraquiano

According to Autosport, Bernardo Sousa and Tamrazov will be there, more info:
http://autosport.pt/bernardo-sousa-no-s ... es=f118629 (http://autosport.pt/bernardo-sousa-no-sata-rali-acores=f118629)

We'll be interesting to compare Fiesta RRC vs R5 vs S2000 although with very diferent drivers...

Let's hope Tamrazov will also support Kangur for some events. He both supports them for Fafe this weekend.

I know he has the Skoda for sale. If he can sell the car until the rally, he will change to a R5.
But I'm sure he will be at the start of SATA Rally

I readed that he can use Evo IX again.

That´s possible in the national championship, but it would not happen.
Rallye Açores is with Skoda or new R5.

After inspection by Jean-Pierre Nicolas and members of Eurosport, will be made some changes to the itinerary.
The Stage Coroa da Mata stays with just one pass and the new version of São Brás/Vila Franca, will be made in reverse (Vila Franca/São Brás).
One of the reasons for this amendment on this stage, was due to a part of the stage that was too narrow and bumpy. In addition, it was mostly climbing, and that will not be good for 2WD cars.
Anyway, all those present praised a lot for all the work done by the Organization

Quantitatively the largest entry list of Rally Azores stands at 70, if I'm not mistaken. In the edition of 1992, with European debut.

That depends if you believe they will do only 8 rounds.

Given that the 208 is quite competitive I think more rounds are now likely.

Well if they do 8 rounds they´ll have to pass more rallies than only Jänner and Cyprus.

I know that the plans are for 6 to 8 rallies. If they are 8, Jänner has passed and apparently, Cyprus will also not be an option. Will the Sibiu Rally even perform in October? Will Skoda be competitive on the very fast roads of Estonia? I''m not 100% sure that Lappi and Wiegand will start on Azores (based on some sources It also had not quite sure) but, for sure, Skoda can be competitive on a rally that as nothing to prove.

I must say I think doing Ypres for Lappi instead of Azores is a bit of an odd decision in terms of collecting points potential. He was excellent in Ireland, but the entry list on Ypres is usually very strong and the R5 cars with high top speed could be very good there (if they can last the distance!)

On the other hand Azores is on his preferred surface, and the Fabia has always been very strong there. "Even" tarmac man Kopecky was able to win there last year against Breen, Bouffier, Kubica...

I suppose no (as me, except Cuoq). And that's logic. If some of us follow results, look at pictures, can identify the car on a picture, the face of the driver is other thing. If you are not from the country (and a close country of you), you don't have a reason to see his face.

There is no QS for juniors. And shakedown times are not so important. As shakedown stage has different character than rest of stages, most of crews is doing it only for have more tyres.

There was a discussion about that in CoI dedicated thread. Jarek was right in his points - there was very little interest from local drivers to take part in ERC event and the overall number of ERC entrant was very low (again because of absence of local drivers). Those are valid points. The event and the stages are great but when locals are not interested to take part in ERC event than why to have it there?

This stupidity with notional times repeats almost every occasion with FIA stewards.

Stewards of the meeting:

Anita Passalis (GRC) FIA – Chairman
Tomas Kunc (CZE) FIA
Eduardo Portugal Ribeiro (PRT) FPAK/ASN

Somehow I doubt Tomáš Kunc would support this idea. I thought he was one of the few reasonable guys in our ASN...

EDIT: Notional times shall be responsibility of the clerk of the course but I guess the stewards could took the decision anyway. Who knows.

Same thing happened in TAC without FIA stewards. Jamie Brown with Fiesta R2 got 30 seconds more than the 208 cup drivers. Reason is Fiesta R2 can't drive as fast as the 208 according to them. Brown finished the rally 29.7 seconds slower. Means that he got screwed from the victory.

A debate for another time and place, I thought that he was making reference to stage conditions as mentioned in the preceding posts. I still dont agree with him though, you would end with a 3 round championship of Ypres, Barum and Sanremo, no other event is likely to provide locals who have the talent and machinery to run at the front.
