Hi everyone! I can't find any information about stage timetables and locations on the website for the JCMR. Is it so that everyone buys a spectator pack?

I know its a little early, but i like to plan in advance! If anyone could post any info they have i would be very grateful.

Cheers

If you want to see the action, why not marshal instead.

The event is in need of many marshals as without them there won't be an event to watch.

The choice is yours.

I agree club need as many people buyng raly packs as possible as it cover there cost to run the rally and motor clubs other activities, i'll admit £20 is a bit steep when most programmes in Ireland are only E10 (£6.50-£7) but its going to a cause where with out this money you wont have a rally to watch.

I dont mind paying for a 'rally pack' as its a rally i really enjoyed last time i saw it in 2003. However, i'm not sure that the 3 other people that are coming with me will want to pay, to be honest the reason i dont mind paying is because i know how good rallying is, but for newbies the cost is not so attractive! Think i'll by a pack and the rest can pay a fiver at the car park to the stage!

How much would it cost to watch say Newcastle play Arsenal?

This is the Premiership of British Rallying, if the speccies paid more then the entry fees could come down and more crews could afford to enter.

Which other sport has it's partcipants paying to entertain the fans?

Doon
30th April 2007, 09:35
Yes but this is Rallying and we live in Britain, where everyone wants something for nothing and are lazy *******s. If the fees to spectate went up, there would be very few willing to pay. Rallying is not a Premiership sport to most. I would rather watch a BRC rally than a football game, but the other 99 in a 100 would watch the footie!

There are not many events I can think of that speccie money ends up with the organising club that would allow the entry fees to be reduced/subsidised. The Forestry commission take parking fees to fill their kitty, and most other events allow charities to take the entrance money. I dont think many fans would argue about paying money if they thought it would benefit the event directly and allow fuller entries and even pay for some overseas crews to attend and increase competition for crews in the BRC. The JMCR is one such event that donates the speccie money to local "causes" as part of an enhanced PR campaign to keep the goodwill of the locals onside.

Ironically one of the healthiest championships in the World , the Irish Tarmac Championship doesn't charge it's fans for access to the stages and they dont have a problem attracting full entries and reserves and that is in part due to the fact that they dont have any pretentions about being a feeder series to the WRC and therefore limit their entry to Grp N and R3 cars.

And as for calling the BRC premier league...!!!

The BRC the Premiership of British Rallying dont make me laugh........

It could'nt be any further away from being that.

Now Irish rallying is a different matter..that is Premiership stuff!!

chicken/egg story really, fans want a show, the show needs sponsors, sponsors want an audience/fans, right now it sounds like the BRC has very little any of these 3 things, it isnt the premiership of anything, its sad to see what this once great championship has been reduced to

These championships have been reduced to this because of the big wigs or people who think they know everything in the top positions in british motorsport,
yes some people do know what there on about but about 70% are there because when it was going good they thught they should be apart of it and its the same with motorsport Ireland there are people in that who are in it because they think there somebody because there in it and again of course there are some people who know what they are on about but the others are going to bring the ITC down the same slow death that the brc is taking

Best thing that could be done for the brc is despand the whole thing, and start from scratch, let the wrc's back in let the best cars be used by the best british drivers get the championship back to what it used to be, all the best drivers in the world used to do the brc and know the only time u see them is for wales rally GB

If you judge an event purely on what cars enter go to a Single Venue, heaps of 6R4s and WRC cars there.

If someone feels a fee to spectate is too much, then don't go, simple as that. The organising club won't miss you and other than the odd push back on the road neither will the competitors.

The BRC is the top flight of British Rallying just as the Premiership is the top flight of British football, granted it's not as big as it was in the olden days or even the F2 days but it is still the top of the pile of British rallying.

European events can offer free entries that are subsidised by spectators and sponsors, of course that'll never happen in Britain for British crews as our fans are more worried about spending a few quid to watch the sport.

Sponsors(real ones, not your mate/relative giving you help) are interested in spectator numbers, to say they arent missed on events is nonsense, the BRC is dying for lack of interest, its only the 'top flight' in its organisers minds.

If the decline continues at the current pace they soon may be able to run perfect events free of both competitors and spectators :-)

Can't see the sponsors being all that interested in people who can't afford the programme cost or to pay to park their cars away from the access roads.

The sponsors are a lot more interested in television and coverage in the press than some bloke stood on the corner with a bobble hat on.

so the BRC is in big trouble either way............

PS the only times I have ever attended a rally with out buying a program is when they have either been free or I have been unable to find any for sale, I have never begrudged an event the few quid for programs or parking, but I dont attend poor events ;-)

Beat me to it Neil, as someone who has sponsored other crews and been sponsored if a speccy can see your brand / logo's while your trying!! your not trying!!!

When pitching an idea, i have never hear anyone talking about speccy numbers on BRC, BTRDA, or Ancro. Its all about TV and other media coverage and i am not talking about half baked press releases.

That said i have heard some big numbers from people with regards to the number of spectators on Wlaes Rally GB.

No I wasn't taking the piss. He's not going to be the only one at his corner, there will be 4 or 5 people with him. Taking time off to take some pictures isnt a real issue. If a car breaks down or crashes of course he's going to help and do his job which is first and foremost to be a marshall. Come to think of it, he was on a stage at last years Jim Clark where people kept barrel rolling off. He swapped email addresses with some of drivers as they wanted him to send them pictures of the wreckage's.

Being a marshall I think he has more issues with spectators ignoring them! Going back to the stage I mentioned before, some spectators relcutantly moved after they were repeatedly told it was dangerous to stand where they were. They didn't want to move as the last 4 or whatever cars had barrel rolled off to the right . They did move eventually, not that they were greatful when half an hour or so later a car went off to the left right where they were previously standing.

Sorry thats not good enough and being one of a group dosnt make any difference. Anyone who signs on as a marshal should be doing just that, if he wants to take photos sign on as media. People who sign on a marshals to take photos contribute to the spectator problems imo as it's no wonder that people get annoyed when they are told to move and then see the "marshal" stand in the same place they were with a camera or worse still camera phone. Having said that he has my sympathy marshalling on this event as in the years I've been going to the JCMR I've seen more tanked up "yoofs" than on any other event in the UK and can appreciate the problems they can cause. Add to that having to deal with those who have paid the £25 and expect to get full access and it becomes quite a heady mix. Good luck to him!

If you are a marshal and want to take pics then please take your tabard off first, but make sure there is enough of you marshaling the Junction before doing so in that theres enough bods to cover and please dont tell spectators to move away as that is hipocritical

Or marshal one stage then go and take pics as a spectator on another, thats what I have done in the past

I saw the person in question twice and he wasn't taking photos and marshalling at the same time when I saw him. :)

I have to say I enjoyed this year's event more than last years. Only did Friday night and two stages on Saturday, but I liked the places I went to.

Didn't have a problem with paying a fiver for entry where I went, but I did find the downside to it. Got to Leithholm 1 yesterday in time for the 3rd car to go through, maybe saw another 10 mins of cars going through and then it was cancelled, but that's all part of rallying I suppose. :)

A few gripes with fellow spectators though. The people who got Langton stopped because they were in a Prohibited area were very stupid. Right behind a 3 bar wooden fence next to the end of a long straight onto a bridge. Then a pair of them moved further along and stood at the bridge exit, before going to sit in a tree around the corner. But it was alright, as they were wearing hi-vis jackets......just like the bloke at Bothwell who was standing on the grass next to the road, rather than in the comparitive safety of the fields like everyone else. Finally, the tosser in the Focus who on the way out of Leithholm, was blocking the road when asking directions . Car behind me beeps it's horn, he thinks it's me, gives me the v-sign, I shrug my shoulders and shout it wasn't me, he does it again, so I blast my horn at him this time and he floors it.

I'm liking the sound of those C2-R2s, especially the one with the cracked exhaust which sounded like a MKII Escort coming towards us from over the crest of the hill. :D

I think the whole topic of marshals taking pictures is quite honest crap!

I know of a lot of people who complain about the marshals doing their job wrong etc and they dont even marshal themselves. Marshals are experienced enough to know when the right time is to maybe take a step back for 2 or 3 minutes when they're with a group of people and take one or two pictures.
Saying taking a picture is irresponsible and it doesnt matter whether they're with a group of people (not aimed at the person who posted a similar sentence) or not is just ludicrous because when a marshal goes to get something to eat or drink and has to go to the car to get it its the same thing - they're having to briefly take a step back from their duty to do this, at least when they're taking the odd picture they're not away from their post!

It was a yellow C2 if I remember right. Never got any half decent pictures really. Couldn't find a spot at Langton without anyone's head in the way and then it got too dark. Yesterday I had a decent spot at Leitholm, then it was cancelled and then at Bothwell the battery started to die on me.

Wrong and posting ill-informed information like that helps noone.

The gate that the car hit flew open and as it did so it launched off the hinges and clobbered the unlucky cameraman who just happened to be standing in a "realatively safe place" about 10-15m away
