Has anyone mentioned Mark in Oshawa yet? His posting became less frequent awhile back, but he'd still drop by from time to time. I don't think I've seen him around in a year or better.

I feel sorry about not paying too much attention to him, when he was around more often. He would often agree with my points, and I was just too lazy to say "Thanks, buddy". :(

He was here mostly as a CART/Champ Car fan. When those series went belly up he didn't take so much to the IRL. He also used to work as a volunteer in Timing & Scoring for Canadian club races as well as the Toronto Indy. It's possible he's still hanging out on another board where the few US open wheel fans are now. His sporadic posting was because he was an over the road truck driver and out of town and not easily connected to the internet much of the time. His last regular posting here was when Easy Drifter left us to race in another place.

Seems weird to think I signed up in 2001 when I was still 15!

I rarely remember to visit Chit Chat or even any other section outside F1. But this is an interesting thread to read back a bit.
People come and go, some disappear completely. Well, basically like an everyday life. But I still have the habit to come back to here every now and then. Sometimes discuss really a lot actually. Despite all the changes in life throughout years, here at Motorsportforums is something that keeps me here.
A lot of people have left, but in a way current athmosphere is also sort of pleasant. It feels like a family. Small friendly group of people discussing about stuff. F1 section has died down, but the nasty arguments have also died down. Feels like good sharing.:)
I am still unsure, how to take bad arguing. Then again behind even the most insane debates there are personalities and people, who feel like they have something important to say. But there is only so much you can take before realizing it is all useless in the end.

Two very righteous bros popped into my failing memory. I wonder what ever happened to Camelopard, he was a very cool head, that knew a lot about rock and roll. Also a guy (I think) that I thought was most razzuess; Leopardsleeping, I think he was from Nigeria. And where is my dawg Koz? Maybe he finally got some sleep!

I´ve met Camelopard and his lovely wife in Portugal and in Finland. He told me that in the 70´s he was building silos for farmers in my neighbourhood in sweden. In 2011 I know he was here and visited his old buildings (some of them).
he was a Ford lover and always took pics of numberplates.
Why don´t we just mail him? Have you done that?

I'll never be able to write on fb what I write here. I'd be petrified if people I know în real life will think something bad about me. That makes my fb timeline so boring that nobody enjoys my friendship. :p
But I accept there are people who are really made for such type of communication. Those who have about 4000 friends ( about 85% being selected at random ) and daily post ”Good morning my friends!” + a picture of some roses and ”Good evening my friends” + a picture of some sleepy kitten.

I know there is a saying that if you are not in Facebook, you do not exist, but really... I am not on Facebook. I once did a "fake" account to just find out, what it is, and I am not fond of all the blurr and mess. Doesn't add anything to my life. And I don't want to try to get addicted to it!
So there it is. Perhaps that's why I still come back to forums, because I don't have social networking systems to rely on, while spending time on the Internet.:) I prefer the Real life networking system!

I suggest a slogan for this forum: "A family forum you would not want your family to know about." How 'bout that, Mark?
There's also a slogan for fb: "Sharing your privacy with the world."

Similar here.
I've had a FB account for several years now and have logged on perhaps a dozen times. I simply don't get the attraction of reading frivolous postings of people I barely know, and, as has been mentioned, pictures of their cats or dogs. I’m also surprised by the numbers of people that post pictures of children or family members. Mrs. schmenke went ballistic against her sister a while ago when she, innocently, posted pics of her two nieces (our kids).

Facebook is very different from forums. I use facebook a lot but also post on roads, cycling forums etc. If there's anything distracting from forums it's reddit.
The main thing for here is that we don't have sites linking to us like we did in the past it's just the forum having to make it's own way :)

The same goes for G+ and Twitter. I use FB only because it is a tool for me to keep in touch with family, friends and work mates back home in the UK.
Back on topic...I have noticed that it is VERY quiet on this forum. Could not believe how limited the current threads are.
Remember the days of all the bickering, that came with some very interesting topics.

When the Chit Chat forum is waaaay more active than the Formula 1 forum, something is wrong.
As Mark mentioned, the factors of reddit and no sites linking to here don't help. Along with the other usual suspects of members here being overwhelmed with work (as in the japanese word karoshi) and family matters.
My hunch is - for here anyways - that some folks finally got fed up with the state of the sport. From what I've seen here and on other sites, there's either little activity or an unusual (yet unstandable)level of anger expressed .... notably with F1 and IRL racing.

You would be correct. I was a huge fan of CART and IndyCar. And to a slightly lesser extent F1. Those organizations have squandered most, if not all, of the fan loyalty they once enjoyed. These days I'll still watch if the races are on TV at a convenient time but I don't even bother to set the DVR if they are not. I haven't given up on motorsports and am very active at the local level. I just don't have a lot of use for the product as presented today.

yeah, F1 used to be very interesting to most of us till a few years ago, I daresay it has lost a lot of traction since the Vettel years.
Also as you rightly guessed, more important stuff happened in my life (meaning posting on F1 as intensely as earlier was not possible) and I have failed to get back into it as much as I did earlier (while football my other passion remains that way). I guess same thing might have happened to some other regulars.
I lost interest in F1 due to Vettel dominance. The same happened on WRC because of Loeb, and especially due to the exit of Italian Teams and drivers. But main reason I don't post as much as I did before, is the disappearance of many good friends and posters... :(

My interest in F1 has not waivered this millennium or last, and either has my participation on this forum, (even if the teams , or drivers I favor have not been in a fight at the sharp end) except when I've been sent on vacation by Pino. :sailor:
Than again I am easily amused :)

So I am playing the gadjo_dilo role here now as I am late to the party (discussion).:p:
My presence on the (mainly F1) forums is a bit on-and-off. Sometimes I go along with the flow, other times I feel there is no point in arguing about the same things over and over again, with agendas-approaches never changing.
I feel life is often purer without endlessly debating about it. Because what is there to discuss... Life is what it is, and let's enjoy world as it is. I like nostalgia a lot though - especially motorsport nostalgy.:p:

I have been missing a bit in recent months but am back for now.
Just remembering back to a few that disappeared more recently.
555 came back for a while and obviously got busy again.
rjbetty had to limit his time which was a shame. Had some good chats with him and Jens about F1 circa 1990s/2000s
Hope you are all well if you still pop in and read this.

I've been wondering whatever happened to all of the people who used to be in FGP in the F1 section. When I started we regularly had 80 entrants. Now I am lucky if I get past 20!

Triple 5 comes and goes. He had a brief period back posting quite a lot, but not seen him for a long while now. :(
Still alive mate! Just been busy and lost interest in F1 due to all the changes for the worse.
How you been keeping?

Hey mate. Great to hear from you.
Likewise really, life has become busier than I thought possible but in good ways so enjoying things. I too have also lost interest in F1. I still watch but do not bother if its live or after if busy.

Are you still following other racing series? A while back you were thinking about getting into marshaling. Still doing it or have you found other interests?

Hi Starter
I still follow many other series. I gave marshalling a go but it didnt grab me as I hoped and have found other interests in terms of traveling etc. I appreciate your advise on marshalling and I used it when trying events here.
My interests have always and continue to change so who knows but for now I am not marshalling.

Hi everyone
If you don't know, none of us can easily figure it out. Unless possibly a doctor is available?
On the up side, since you are posting even I can figure out that you are alive. That makes at least two of us from the forums still alive.
