Since sponsorship is so important to enjoying the most exciting form of racing out there, I thought it would be interesting to list the current companies that are involved with the IRL, either through drivers, teams, or the series itself. I try and use these companies and their products whenever I can .

How do I buy Joost services? Has Joost sold anything yet? What is their source of operating capital, and marketing budget to be the only sponsor Vision has?

Is there a board where potential sponsors have to appear so we can judge whether they would be eligible to sponsor a race car?

I haven't seen their financial report but on their website there is a contact to whom you can write and ask for one. In just a couple of minutes of checking it seems as they are doing business with some credible companies led by Viacom.

It also appears that they are still a developing company because they are looking for more beta testers. That would lead me to believe that they are using some of their start up money to get the word out similar to another startup company years ago that was at one time talked about as the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. Some make it out of their startup status, some don't. Excite! and @Home didn't make it if I recall correctly.

In either case, what difference does it make to you. One business man made a deal with another businessman to put his company's name on the sidepod of a race car. What the financial arrangements were will probably never be known.

The fact remains there is a car on the track and at least you and ChicagocrewIRL now know about Joost. Who made the better deal probably will never be known.

Sounds more like Quokka.com than ESPN. (If anyone remembers them.)

If you can recall some of ESPN's early productions you will understand why I believe that Quokka was better funded in their start up. Their execution is where they lost it. The internet's capabilities have improved to the point that it might be able to support such a view on demand venture.

Who knows, WhiteBlox is pulling some decent numbers with their experiment with sponsored internet broadcasts. When it comes to the internet companies I am very hesitant to comment on the possibilities.

http://www.tvanywhere.org is live linear TV to a set top box or PC and will shortly announce a full VOD service dedicated to motorsport, and on-demand. Joost is ad supported service to the PC only and is 'clip' based as opposed to real live linear TV channels. TV Anywhere is pure IPTV that looks and feels like digital cable or DTH but offers much more interactivity. Some really cool stuff planned for next year and the OW racing season... think of race director or IRL on-line services that can be pulled up over the live broadcast when you wish.

Sarah has been a serious SPONSOR MAGNET lately!

just today, from a press release:

"Dreyer & Reinbold Racing announced that AAMCO Transmissions will sponsor the No. 5 Honda-powered Dallara driven by Sarah Fisher for the remainder of the IndyCar Series season."
