Schumacher gets F1 run at Nordschleife - GPUpdate.net (http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/293814/schumacher-gets-f1-run-at-nordschleife/)

Hope he actually goes close to 100% and Mercedes provide decent footage, unlike the Heidfeld run!

I doubt he will go anywhere near 100% full throttle as the circuit is not suitable for modern day F1 cars with stiff unforgiving suspension. Plus the safety barriers are not up to F1 spec and aren't likely to be implemented over the 13 mile course for this type of event. I'm sure he'll blast away in places but it'll be a safe conservative lap I'm sure.

He can't go anywhere near 100%, else he'd be dead before even getting to Schwedenkreuz. Should he somehow get past that the car would desert him on the run-up to Schwalbenschwanz. The Nordschleife gives the word bumpy a bad name and a modern day F1 car even on maximum ride height is too low to give it wellies in most places.
And that's not even counting that Schumacher has practically no experience driving on the Nordschleife. That thing is over 10 miles long with over 100 corners. You can't figure that thing out in a day like a tilke-drome. I've been doing about 400 laps - give or take 20 - during the open weekends in the last 5 years, but I still get caught out by bumps I never encountered before.
He'll do a safety run, but due to an F1 car's sheer speed it will still look like the speed of sound to the casual observer. I'm most keen to see how he handles the exit of Karussell. You have your hands full keeping a mildly riced Golf pointing in the right direction on that nasty bump. I'm looking forward to Herr Schumacher manhandling his Merc over that thing :D

Is this an FIA sponsored event?

Surely Michael Schumacher has driven the Nordschliefe before.

I very much doubt it.

Not in a race car, no. Maybe he has driven a few laps in a private car, although I doubt that. He wouldn't exactly go unnoticed if he showed up at one of the open weekends and the only racing on it is done by the VLN, which he certainly never raced.

No. It's sanctioned by the German authorities. He'll run shortly before the start of the 24h of Nürburgring. We'll be at Schwalbenschwanz guzzling beer :D

I envy you! :P

Please post pics from the run!

Btw is there any site where they'll stream this, I'd love to see it.

Schumacher has driven Nordscleife, see this: Walter Röhrl trifft einen bekannten Formel-1 Fahrer auf der Nordschleife... - YouTube (http://youtu.be/lrXEKIZ4N5s)

LOL, yeah and Walther Röhrl trounced him. I'm sure he has driven the odd lap here or there, but unless you've driven a few hundred laps there, you don't know it for toffee. It's not a normal race track. It took me 10 visits and about 70 laps until I could go round there without needing a lap schematic with the most important bumps and camber changes marked on it. Schumacher would probably get up to speed faster, but I'm pretty sure he'll have several days of training before he goes out there in the Merc. I expect to see a black FXX in the days prior to the race
