If you remember a few years ago, Maximilian started a thread titled "2010 new teams world championship" and I just helped to continue it, so for a bit of fun this season, id do a mini championship for this years 5 rookies

A few rules, the current F1 points system applies and the drivers must finish the race to score

Nice idea, but not really objetive isn't it?

How on earth can you acspect that Bianchi, Chilton, Pic and vd Garde will win this?

Do a chamiochip with Bottas and Guiterez in their own league, and then the others in an other league :-)

I agree. The current idea is unrealistic. I think Bottas and Gutierrez should get one point per position better than 12th (so 1 point for 11th etc) and the bottom dwellers should get points for every position better than 18th.

Not a bad idea that, im always up for negotiation, I just dont want to make it too complicated thats all, so OK then how about this

FINISHING POSITIONS: Normal F1 Points system for the top 5 applies (25-18-15-12-10) but the driver must finish the race to score
QUALIFYING: 2 point bonus for Gutierrez or Bottas if they make Q3 while a 2 point bonus applies to Bianchi, Chilton and Van der Garde if they can get out of Q1
RACE: 1 Point for each finishing position achieved by Gutierrez or Bottas for any position higher than 13th, the same applies to Bianchi, Chilton and Van der Garde for any position higher than 18th

So taking that into account, heres how it looks

I know it's still quite early, but the driver who seem to be distinguishing himself so far is Jules Bianchi. He's been well clear of his teammate and both Caterhams, and closer to the STRs and Williams than Timo Glock ever was.

You can't really compare Glock and Bianchi, as unless Bianchi Glock never had KERS or a car that was properly designed.

Scoring no points for a retirement is an incredibly harsh rule though. Even in the "new teams" championship everyone scored, regardless of whether they retired or not.

Someone asked, how are Bianchi & Co supposed to have a chance against Gutiérrez and Bottas... Well, if they happen to retire a few occasions, then they have a chance. :)

By the way, I thought it was a pretty impressive performance by Bottas today - he almost scored points.

I agree. After a tough start he was consistant and just plugged away and was unlucky.

Here it is after malaysia, plenty of bonuses due to good finishing positions, the only change in the standings is Bottas is the new leader by a single point

Bottas = 25 +2
Gutierrez = 18+1
Bianchi = 15+5
Van der Garde = 12+3
Chilton = 10+2

I agree, not only Bianchi but Marussia I think deserve a mention as arguably the most improved team on the grid, its safe to say they've jumped ahead of Caterham in the pecking order and Bianchi is showing clearly what a good driver he is. Chilton's also doing a good job so far considering this is his first experience in the big leagues, for him his target should be to beat Van der Garde and if he does, then he can consider himself to have had a decent debut season

Yeah I think that too! After being pessimistic in the off season I'm changing my tune.

No offence to Luis Razia, but things have worked out quite well now. I think Razia would not have been any better than Chilton...

The Chinese GP Result, Due to all 5 going out in Q1, it would be tough for any of them to score any bonus points in the race, but 3 of the drivers for the "newer" teams managed it thanks to a spate of retirements

Bottas = 25 +0
Bianchi = 18+3
Chilton = 15+2
Van der Garde = 12 (no bonus)
Gutierrez = DNF (No Score)

And standings after China, Bottas has a clear lead now after Gutierrez's DNF and no score, this also means Bianchi jumps ahead of Gutierrez with his impressive bonus point count showing he is performing brilliantly in the Marussia

i don't think it's anything to be concerned with. it's how it has always been. there's a long history in f1 of hyped drivers or drivers who show great potential, but simply fail to make the next step when they get a drive in a top team.

No bonus points for anyone from Bahrain so just regular finishing positions applies and its a 3rd win in a row for Valtteri Bottas increasing his lead at the top to 21 points

Plenty of bouns points for the Monaco grand prix mostly due to retirements, VDG gets the first qualifying bonus of the season for getting his Caterham into Q2, elsewhere its another rookies win for Bottas ahead of Gutierrez and Chilton who got his best result of the season in 14th

Thanks to his amazing qualifying performance, Bottas gets his first qualifying bonus to go with his win, Gutierrez also scores after his retirement came late enough for him to still be classified

Bottas's 5th win gives him a big 47 point lead but it looks like being a 3 way tussle for 2nd with 19 points covering Gutierrez and the 2 Marussia drivers

Another win for Bottas after a decent drive to 12th again just missing out on a points finish. Its looking ominous though for Van der Garde who is now 39 points adrift at the bottom and is already odds on to claim the wooden spoon

I think VDG and Chilton have both struggled, although Bianchi hasn't put in one of his awe inspiring drives lately.

Happy to see my man Bottas doing so well. :)

After being mocked as inferior by a certain Fantasy GP owner of an Astra related team. :s mokin:

Thanks to the luck of the draw in qualifying, Both Marussia drivers and Van der Garde all get 2 point qualifying bonuses, VDG gets the extra bonus for his 16th place finish, the win however went to Esteban Gutierrez after his 14th place finish

Overall this means Gutierrez has cut Bottas's lead, but it still at a comfortable 41 points while the battle to avoid the wooden spoon is getting tight with Bianchi, Chilton and VDG all now separated by just 22 points

I know he is not a rookie and thus isnt on the list, but I wonder how Pic would be doing in the race? Its an impression that he hasnt been that Great, but you lose track when they get so little coverage.
