A very good rally so far, the distance between podium and 7th is less then 10 seconds.
Ramona have had a good first day but loses some time on the short final stage of the day.
She is 5th after the first day, 32 seconds after Brynildsen, but only 4.3 seconds from 3rd,
I think tomorrow's longer stages will suite her better then today's mostly shorter stages.

Who is Jerker Axelsson? Tell me more about him. Thanks in advance.
He has a big MC import business in Trollhättan and drove SRC in a Renault Clio by the time Sandell and PG did SRC around 2004-2006. Very fast at the time. Then he had some years off and came back driving N4 a couple of yrs. Last year he bought one of the two Subarus of Olsbergs (driven by Rådström/Tobias Johansson) and suddenly he is one of the fastest in Sweden again.

More drama in the 2WD championship, both Leif Peterson and Tobias Söderqvist had the chance

Than again Ramona is in a 2,0l Turbo vs Ahlin in S2000 and with tarmac final gear, so his top speed was a litle over 160kph. From what I heard on some stages he was against the limiter over 20s in a straight so he for sure lost some time there.

If I'm not mistaken such short gearing for Fabia doesn't exist ;) If I remember well the short gearbox used to be 171 km/h but even on tarmac they sometimes use longer gearing (for example in Ypres the factory team uses top speed around 182-184 km/h).

Maybe there is a small difference between gravel and asphalt tyre diameter and also bigger wheel spin on gravel. That would explain the difference of 4 km/h. Anyway You are sure right with big difference to WRC.

I most definitely disagree with your statement. Actually that is a pretty rubbish statement.
The car that is not all that matters. A slow driver will still be slow no matter what car he/she have.
What matters is the combination of driver, co-driver car and team.
A slow driver won't be fast or good just because the car is good.
Look at Kimi Räikkonen when he drove the superb Citroen C4, how well did he do? Not particular good.
Look at Matthew Wilson, for many years did he drive a good Ford Focus WRC? What was his result? Constantly slow.
And what about Hirvonen? A good car but still way off the pace.
So your statement doesn't hold up.
Regarding Rally Uppsala, according the Expert Lasse Johansson most of the stages weren't "flat out stages"
but rather slow and twisty stages where the advantages of a car with higher top speed is either small
or non-existing. You can clearly see on the stage times which stages that was.
You also have to have in mind that Åhlin could drive without pressure as he didn't have any championships
medals to secure which means that he could take bigger risks while Ramona who wanted to secure
the silver medal and thus backed off a bit to play it safe. Especially when her biggest rival crashed out
in the beginning of the rally.
Regarding her fast car, sure the Skoda is fast but she's not the only one with a fast WRC car.

I most definitely disagree with your statement. Actually that is a pretty rubbish statement.
And I dont agree with your statement. Especially older WRC cars with active differentials are "easy to drive" and it is no problem to be fast with them. We can see it in lot of national championships (here in czech rallysprint also) - some drivers are able to fight for stage wins (or at least podiums) with WRC cars, but in normal cars (like classic gr.N or S2000) they are really average...

And it is not only about top speed. Ramona is not slow driver, but when she was competing in grN cars against rivals on similar cars, she was almost without chance. It is easy to be fast with fastest car in the field...

I hear you´re not familiar with how the rally was performed. It was tricky stages, narrow roads and much loose material as well on the surface.
And taking Ramona´s performance for several or atleast 1,5 year ago doesn´t make sence as we all know driver are developing their skills over time.

It seems now that Ramona won't be around to defend her 2nd place since
she have decided to move on to the Rallycross World championship.
I don't know but I think it's a bit strange that she suddenly decides to stop
doing rally and instead moves on to Rallycross.
Also IMO the difference between this year's Ramona and previous years is not that
she suddenly is much faster since she have had the speed for a couple of year now.
The difference between this year and previous years is that she have been
much more consistent. Known when to attack and when to back off a bit.
Previous years she have been doing good stage times just to crash out because
going to fast or attacking too hard.

Yes, sad decision, but understandable because of all money I presume there is in RC at the moment. And also beatiful having a lady in the drivers set up...

Well, I guess it´s about Money, that is needed to fund your rallying. In many other countries motorsport and rallying is something cool. But in sweden for decades rallying has been something you need to have gloves to touch, according to media. That doesn´t bring any money for the good drivers to make them even better and internationally competative.
The Swedish motorsport association haven´t done much more to help the process. So rallying has suffered to other sports like horse racing and sailing (you know "Volvo Ocean Race") and golf.
So we have a bunch of very good drivers but no Money. That´s the reason.
However, you should see Ramona and the other boys in the WRC-class in swedis rallies. They are not World top drivers but still very fast and Ramonas result was nothing else than good and fast tactical driving...

I agree with Per's latest post. Its not only Rallying but motorsport in general that are considered as something
"unwanted". Its "unglamorous" compared to football, icehockey and many other sports. Media gives it very little attention,
unless of course there has been an accident, coz then there suddenly are big headlines about it. Trying to bring motorsport into disrepute.

There is 8 stages and the total stage distance is 119km. The participants have 4 hour recce on Thursday and
another 6 hours recce on Friday. All stages are "recce'ed" twice. So that is 8 hours for to recce 7 stages twice.

I seriously doubt it. Too often it goes like today: Up at 0700, get little Natasha and Annoushka up and fed and walk to school, home and answer emails, then phone and pack junk for sending----just sent really nice LONG con rods and smidda CP pistons to 2 guys in Limmared for a classic Saab 99 and a classic MkI Escort, then errands then pick up the girlies at 15.10 bring 'em home fix some snackies, chase them and read with them, wifey gets home then down to machine shop for lite upp-karvning av aluminum and steel...then home--tonight was home at 22.45...eat some dinner and look in on things like this that require no thinking, then wash up and in bed aroud midnatt or 0030. If I have ANY time I want to spend it with my wifey and the squirmy-girls who are all so sweet and so full of curiosity and wonder. Just got a nice old "Light day service rig" aka Volvo 245 in case i have time to do any rally, if not then its perfect for filling with camping gear to go show the girls the mountains here.

Tragedy has stricken once again.
A 19 year old woman was killed in an accident at Skänningeknixen rally in Skänninge.
I don't know much about the accident more then that the car somehow lifted onto two wheels and hit a couple of spectators.
Hard to know but I think they might have been standing at an improper place.
http://www.corren.se/ostergotland/mjolby/tre-personerpakorda-under-skanningeknixen-6886932-artikel.aspx
I was at another Rally all day today at the Aprilsprinten rally sprint where there was a serious accident where a car was flipped up onto two wheels
and while being brought back down to four wheels driver struggled to maintain control and eventually spun and slide into a large stone which
it hit with the co-driver side. IIRC roll cage damaged, door and the door frame was ripped off and also large damage to the roof at the co-driver side.
Co-driver was stuck and fire fighters had to work quite long (maybe 20-30 min) to get her free. The official report said that she was fully conscious and
was brought to hospital for observation. However I overheard a discussion between a group of people, who were standing next to me, and
someone they knew who knew the couple that was involved in the accident. According to this discussion the co-driver suffered a puncture lung
but no other serious injuries.
As for the rest of the sprint rally, 140 entrants doing 3x2 laps each starting with 30-40 seconds interval with "floating start"*. Which worked very well.
Sunny weather for the first hour and half then more and more clouds and colder and colder temperature. It was almost freezing cold towards the end so
I left about slightly after halfway through the final round. The weather made it not worth staying for the final 30-40 cars.
Some good driving, one driver who managed to rip off a wheel, one driver who managed to roll his golf, allot of engine/gear box failures.
As usual, huge amount of Volvo 200 and 900-series rally cars. Did allot of filming so it might be available within the next few days.
*manual waving flag signalled start used in relation to position of previous starter.

Mats Jonsson won this weekends round of SRC. Main contender Jerker Axelsson went off road today when only thing he had to do was to finish the round to become champion in 4WD class. Jerker had to bring a Mitsu Evo9 when his S10 Subaru wasn´t able to be driven.
Now the championship will be battled out in the last round in Rally Uppsala 3-4th of October.
Jerker started with an Evo10 R4.

Back in 1974 then, you were here! So funny and what a coincidence. Me myself had an Opel Kadett Rallye Sprint driving local rallies and my club was ... Östhammars MK. Any names you remember from that time? I guess it was motocross back then for you. Svanberg?

I really think we should have a PM and a Paliamentery system and maybe something like the Australian "instant run-off" thing so you vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice..
Question is for people with politics formed in more just and fair countries which party..
And who would vote for me as PM?

Apparently there are some problems with the South Swedish Rally. People who live along the stages have reported that many drivers have illegitimately
performed recon of the stages that will be used. The amount of traffic on these small roads have increased allot without any other reasonable explanation.
The stages are not yet officially published but they can still be found out by requesting info from Länsstyrelsen since the organizers obviously need
to have permission to use the roads.
The residents along the stages have taken notes of license plate numbers and the organizers are now investigating those license plate numbers to
see of they can connect them to any of the participants. Any driver who is caught might get suspended and some staged might also have to be cancelled.

Yeah I think so.. It was 25 years ago he was in those Toyota All-Trac that Asterhag built and winning WRC Sweden...
Impressive on one hand that he could keep it up so long/on the other hand worry a bit that rally scene structure is such that one or 2 guys could dominate so long after their obvious peak..

Next year's calendar have been firmed.
4-5/2 Söderhamn (Sprint-SM during SM-week)
24-25/2 Östersund
25-27/5 Karlskrona (South Swedish Rally)
16-17/6 Sandviken
18-19/8 Kolsva
8-9/9 Linköping
http://www.rallysm.se/uncategorized/kalendern-2017-ar-spikad/
Söderhamn replaces Sandviken as one of two winter rallies and Sandviken/Gävle then moves to a new June slot. Good to see that we have a rally in June next year.
I don't like the big gaps that we have had previously. 3 months is a bit too long between two rounds, obviously during March-April it's difficult
to have a really due to de-frosting period but a rally in June and/or July have been much needed.
I hope to be home and around my summer house when the Norrköping rally goes... The stages should go past it!

That's a nice coverage, very nice considering it's a rallysprint for a national championship. Will it end at 19:30 CET?
Loved the variety of cars too, what's with those Corollas (not the WRC one)? They look like some kind of A7, any spec?
Thanks for the link by the way.
