Hi anyone still out there,
The season is now over and so are the Fantasy League and the Pickems for this year. However, at present I don't plan to run the Fantasy League again in 2013 - it is clear that at present the forum is nowhere near as busy as it once was and there simply aren't the folk out there to play the game that there were a few years ago to make spending my time doing the spreadsheet worthwhile. From 26 different people entering a team in 2007 we've shrunk to 19 teams this year and ten of those were provided by my own family (Clint aka Ninjamaster's family supplied many of the rest). The number of views of the League thread each season has also shrunk dramatically - if you search this forum for 'fantasy motorcycling league' you'll see that views have dropped from 34,000 a few years ago to about 3,000 this year - over a 90% drop.
It's sad that the forum has gone quiet, but I think we've basically fallen victim to the rise in social networking and other racing sites adding comments facilities - one way or another I'm online MORE now than I was in 2005 when I started getting involved in the forum, and I don't think there's any less to talk about in bike racing now. With numbers on here declining, it's a dilemma as to whether to keep things running [give people a reason to come here] or stop [save the effort of putting it together for a small number of people].
I think it is the right time to stop, UNLESS a reasonable number of people make themselves known that they want to play next year - so if you do, please make yourself known. I will make a final decision in mid-January (around the time the entry lists come out) as to whether to go or not, but I suspect this is the end. I will continue the Pickems for either MotoGP or WSB; we can address that elsewhere.
It's been fun running the League for everyone over the last seven years and whilst thinking about what to do I dug out the results from the years we've run. These remind me of the good times for the forum and some names who we've missed in recent years.
