Just for information. Road surface temperature dropped below zero at 15:50 today, Air temperature is still aroud +0.4 but road was -2.2 degrees two minutes ago and temperature is dropping like a stone. (2.5 degrees in 40 minutes)

I picked Breen for the Pickem. Breen is improving every year, Ketomaa under the DMACK flag has not been impressing like he did in his SWRC year. Didn't know for sure how well turbo would do against the atmospheric engines but knew for sure with those tires he's in a bad situation.

Yes, the rally is still in a very early stage.
Let's say both are making excellent result so far.
Now I saw the profile of Immonen. He is 22 years of age.
Second season with the C2 R2 MAX and with an experienced co-driver.

Lefebvre is 20 years old. Coming from karting. Last season was driving DS3 R3T and 207 R3T on gravel and tarmac in France. Did Monte-Carlo in 2011 when the rally was with some snow and black ice stages.

Probably the 208 R2 is more performing and recent R2 car than the C2.
Also the Peugeot Sport support is important assistance!
Will be interesting event in the 2WD category.

Weather: Do not get too overexcited about the snowfall. These were very local snowshowers and I cannot tell if they hit the stages or not. Seems that some stages were influenced indeed (Morning stages). There is a little more snow expected early in the morning (around 4-6 AM - for the Kuldiga and Ventspils region, more to he north and NW).
Air temperature is currently between -1.6 and -3.3, road is between -3.0 and -5.5 degrees.
It willl be between -1.. and -2 in the morning, temperature should increase over 0 at around 12-13 PM, but it will not be more than +0.5 or +1 in most of the places. Roadsurface should stay below 0 all day long.If there is no new snow by the morning then there is nearly no possibility that it coes during the day.

I think that Jari didnt choose the best position today and a littlebit later starters benefited from more clear lines and etc. Looking forward to big fight for tomorow.Completely different stages from stage 7.

By the way.. Today is the birthday for.. Breen?! Happy birthday!

Maybe that Fabia is not the fastest car in R2 group, but under this conditions this is IMHO not so important. It is yust a matter how much the driver dares to push in this conditions.....

No, I think this was caused by the serious over-heating in the tyre and this is not the 1st time I see this kind of tyres...
Actually I think that road is more or less gravel and it gets temps so high in tyre and all addhesives start to ´boil´ and studs and even the rubber tears off... In the first km´s they got much more grip than front runners but after few km´s they start to loose grip / tyres quickly. And in that photo there is a tyre from the 2011 (it´s BF) and back the they lasted even shorter period of gravel.

Also strange explanation, why sell a car if they have a contract for 10 more ERC rounds, and to change an S2000 gearbox in 45 min service should be not that tough job. but ok...curious now for the next 3 stages, overall fight and in 2 WD is very promising, I don´t believe one second that Ketomaa is not really interested in winning this rallye :)

Jari just commented on Rally Radio that his last competition drive was at Rally Finland last year. Keeping this in mind and the fact that he's wearing DMACKs I would say his doing absolutely great. This event is more or less a test for Sweden. I would expect much more in Sweden from Jari, provided that the tires work there.

Thierry was faster than Lukyanuk in all 12 stages and besides that Kruuda was faster than Lukyanuk in 8 stages. And in Rally Saaremaa Lukyanuk won 5 stages against Koitla and Koitla was with N4 when Lukyanuk was with R4. There was 10 stages .

Also strange explanation, why sell a car if they have a contract for 10 more ERC rounds, and to change an S2000 gearbox in 45 min service should be not that tough job. but ok...curious now for the next 3 stages, overall fight and in 2 WD is very promising, I don´t believe one second that Ketomaa is not really interested in winning this rallye :)

You can change gearbox in service for long one if You have it. I think all priority drivers are allowed to have two boxes but both are sealed in scrutineering. After that You can't open it and change ratios and that's what was not done by team of Delecour and later they were not allowed to do so. That's my understanding.

But do not put him in WRC yet. He needs to get experience in cheaper cars first. His style is very good for the roads in Estonia, Latvia and Finland (Good and smooth roads, no big rocks etc.). But when there are not so good roads, then his experience is very small and his current style might be too rough. But it is getting better very quickly!

Todyas Latvian Rally Championship leader (Timmu Kõrge) also just retired due to the engine problems. Looks like later starters are fast today, he was 14 seconds faster than Lukyanuk on previous stage.

Craig Breen is back in business on Rally Liepāja-Ventspils after the problem that struck on stage 12 was traced to a broken wire.


With the fault rectified by his Peugeot Rally Academy-Saintéloc team during the 15-minute remote service halt in Kuldīga, Breen is on his way to the Swecon stage, which runs for a second time at 12:05hrs local time.
“It looks like they’ve solved the problem,” Breen told ERC Rally Radio’s Chris Rawes. “It was a problem with a broken wire, which was obvious when they took the airbox off.”



Breen and co-driver David Moynihan will tackle the final loop of three stages with a new set of Michelin Ice North tyres fitted to their Peugeot 207 Super 2000. The Irishmen are 19.5s adrift of leading Finns Jari Ketomaa and Kaj Lindström on round two of the FIA European Rally Championship.

Unfortunately I was not able to follow the rally live as I was skiing all day but from the results I can say I'm amazed by Lukyanuk and very pleased by Černý. I didn't expect him to get fast so quickly. It was his first rally with these tyres and only second with S2000 car. Pity he lost a lot of time on Friday with that broken brake pipe.

They used narrow 15". For 2WD it´s obligatory to use 6x15" wheels in the FIA Regional Championship rallies in gravel and snow counts as gravel..

A few word about the rally. First we expected a bit more from this rally, but ok it was the first time for our neighbors to organize a ERC event, but there where a few things that could have been better. First of all the rally maps between Top Gear where small and hard to read and understand, maybe I'm so used to Estonian spectator guides, but that's my opinion. The second thing we didn't liked was that the radio (Kurzemes) was only in Latvian (we didn't want to use internet radio via mobile network), it would have been nice if some information could have been at least in English, for example in Estonia most of the rallies what have rally radio, there is information in English and on Rally Estonia there was also information in Latvian. I hope in following years it get's better and there will be more competitors and spectators, because this event has potential.
