With Sebring being left out, now none of the major US endurance races are part of the WEC. For many years all of us sports car fans were hoping the the US scene and the European scene would somehow work together to produce one major series. Now I see it can't happen, because the organizers in Europe don't want it to.

I wonder if the ALMS/Grand Am tie up had anything to do with it.

Well, European and Asians can still attend Sebring. Not WEC's 30 entries, but hopefully a couple of P1s and a bunch of P2s and GTE-Pros.

Wouldn't quite have the same allure if it featured factory cars.

This merger with Grand Am is going to kill any hopes of the North American side of the sport getting any kind of merger of any form with the European side of the sport. ALMS worked off LeMans regs, but now....well it will maybe try to, but the Euro's like running their own show, and they consider any FIA World championships to be their domain...no Americans or god forbid, Canadians need apply.

I'm not sure the WEC rules would be good for the US and Canada anyway. P1 is way too expensive. I don't know the economics of P2, but that would make for a decent top level class. For that matter, since you can get a 650 hp crate motor these days, you could come up with something that has a fairly low cost engine system and an up to date chassis that would go at near P1 speeds for a lot less money.

The problem is that the merger will be a sideshow to WEC as in next year's Austin race.

No point having a war over Sebring 12hrs & PLM.
