F1: Le Mans Winner Roy Salvadori Dies Aged 90 (http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-le-mans-winner-roy-salvadori-dies-aged-90/This) link is to an obit for Roy Salvadori, versatile and colourful driver from the 1950s-60s. He departs just weeks after his Le Mans partner Carrol Shelby. His wife Susan Hindmarsh was the daughter of 35 Le Mans winner John Hindmarsh (Luis Fontes), so she was the daughter and wife of endurance winners.

Another of my boyhood heroes gone.

Roy was one of many drivers who graduated via British postwar club racing to the world of international racing - grand prix and sports car. He had "works" drives with six different teams, won several non-championship F1 races, won of Le Mans and other championship sports car races but never won a Grande Epreuve.

Those of us who had the good fortune to have seen Roy Salvadori on so many occasions during his heyday, will remember him as a very fine versatile driver, who, while lacking the natural talent of his contempories Moss, Hawthorn, Brooks and Collins, deservedly became a household name at that time thanks to a multitude of victories in a variety of different cars in major events across the country,

His victories in the Oulton Gold Cup, and Le Mans also confirmed him as a particularly fine sports car driver, but we also remember him, along with Moss and Brooks as being one of the great survivors of that era, who lived to enjoy retirement and old age, when so many of their contempories perished in their youth.
