Eurosport today confirmed four live stages! Not the best ones but they were chosen to suit broadcasting time schedule and also because they are not almost completely in the forests invisible for helicopters like some others.

Czech IRC high-speed thriller for live Eurosport coverage - News - IRC Intercontinental Rally Challenge - Eurosport (http://www.ircseries.com/news/detail/id/419)

This year there will be some more changes to the stages than usual. First You can see a return of a stage Slušovice in different and longer variant than last run in 2007. This stage includes quite large Mickey Mouse part over town Slušovice which usually works for catching biggest crowds (an area known in last year from Rally Slušovice show).

Good news also that it will be on CTV4. I feel that working with local broadcasters is something Eurosport could work on more - they can share costs and it improves publicity. For example it would have been great to have seen last years Scotland footage on BBC or one of the ITV digital channels.

Most important is if local broadcasters wants to cooperate...

Of course. They have clearly been succesful with this in CZ and also Corsica (Via Stella). The great news about the Czech deal is that it is on a national free-to-air channel.

This is not really 2012 edition related because this stage is not run this year but still worth mentioning (it's pity because this used to be the best stage).

Václav Šourek finished stage Semetín for Richard Burns Rally PC simulator. Here is a HD onboard of the 2010 direction. In my opinion this must be the most accurate track for any PC game ever made because it is absolutely same with the real stage including houses, fences, objects around the road etc. It's crazy because You can even use real pacenotes and drive according to them! The only difference is that it is slightly wider (that was necessary to keep enjoyment in the given level of RBR simulation).

PS In this direction the further in the stage the nicer road ;)

Is it available for RSRBR or just the Czech plugin? It looks very good.

Mirek
21st July 2012, 22:41
I'm out of RBR community for 3 years but I'm almost sure it's not available for RSRBR.

The reason is that many years a go when Václav Šourek made his Strýčkovy stage (from Rally Příbram) the guys from RSRBR took it and modified it to totally unreal stage without a word to the original author. They never reacted to any attempt to contact them. Since then all stages of Václav were available only for rbr.onlineracing.cz. I don't know what is the situation now...

EightGear

Ok thanks. That Pribram stage is very good too.

Now also historic timetable is out. Due to the TV schedule it's far from being spectator friendly...

Itinerary of the modern cars separated from supplementary regulations:

http://www.autosport.cz/zavody/soubor.php?f=13036

For city stage You can expect a repeating of last year oldtimer show. This time possibly with even more ancient cars.

Hopefully PLuto won't be too angry to say few words about changes in stages compared to last years :)

City stage is slightly changed due to the ongoing works in the area. It's nothing really special, just few places have different surface, there is one speed retarding step in a place where a chicane used to be and one building may be run around from different side...

Stage Slušovice is a combination of what used to be in Barum rally till 2007 and what is run in Rallyshow Slušovice. I don't know the exact course of the circuit part but generally it's something similar to the city stage. Two laps between buildings and around the hypodrom area. Than they continue in exactly same course like in this onboard but reversed! (from start to circa 3:42). This stage is full of places of everyones taste. From sideways hairpins to crazy superfast ones.
Jan Kopecky on board Rally Barum OS 10 Slusovice - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0x403XhcFw)

Stage Pindula is first time since 2007 reversed too. It's slightly shorten from the finish. It's same with this onboard except last maybe 30 seconds which are now behind finish (I was told it's due to very bad road shape there). That's a pity because it used to be the craziest place to spectate. Another change is new asphalt starting at the main road crossing and ending at the next junction left.
Enrique Garcia Ojeda-Jordi Barrabés/Pindula-Barum Rally 2007 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muCyr9hww6I)

Stage Lukov is just a part of usual Troják. Same with last year from start to finish before Držková.

Stage Tesák is the most interesting addition. First part is known well. It starts in last year finish of Troják taking the same road to the junction on the main road (at the ski slope). But there it doesn't turn left to normal Troják but right to take a hairpin right in next junction. From there a very demanding road starts. Very fast, not so narrow but full of blind long corners and several narrow and kicking bridges. It was not run in Barum for quite many years. Than they turn to a long very fast narrow forest road which was also not used for a long time. This is definitely very difficult stage!

Second day they start with reversed Halenkovice from last year. I guess the first part will be run like in 2010 not exactly reversed like last year. The stage is shorten by the last part from Bunč.

Than they do reversed Kudlovice. Here I also expect same route like in 2010.

Maják is also reversed from last year but I think otherwise exactly same. Reversed part of the stage from Pohořelice to Komárov including the spectator area in Pohořelice will be used as shakedown.

The car in test is usually used by Al Ketbi, that's why the sponsor stickers of Dubai. Otherwise I don't want to go to the discussions about sponsors or baking, sorry.

What can he do? I think he can be quite close behind his brother-in-law Roman Kresta but sure not regularly faster. Probably in fight with Tarabus and Valoušek. He's really good for his limited rally experience but still we can't exaggerate his results as in the sprint championship the competition level isn't so high and he has also the best car. Don't forget Roman Kresta co-driven by son of his sponsor won sprint championship in 2010 in gr.N Lancer winning four events overall (one with 207 S2000). There were less top WRC cars but Odložilík already had Xsara and Kresta managed to defeat even Béreš and Grzyb on S2000 cars so...

Now it's officially out, so complete info... :)

A new book about Leo Pavlík (former Czechoslovak 5x champion and Audi test driver) and the story of Audi in Czechoslovakia will be revealed during Barum rally. It's in Czech but the accompanying program could be interesting for everyone. Together with Leo Pavlík another legend participating on the story and also the book will be in Zlín - former Audi Sport boss Roland Gumpert brought with him not only the S1 for Leo but also his current baby - the supercar Apollo. Both S1 and Apollo will drive the city stage. During Saturday both cars will be on display at the entrance to the Slušovice hypodrome area (in circuit part of stage).

http://www.autosport.cz/img/clanky/b_7d2e14d1aa7820bed106ce16bd258338.jpg

Most of You probably don't know what is going on with some Audi story in a country behind the iron curtain... During the gr.B era Audi often used to test in a guarded area in Dešná near Zlín. They tested there even the mid-engine prototype for 1987 season. Another part of the story is that thanks to his involvement in the testing Leo Pavlík could drive the Quattro not only on test track but also in many rallies with a support of Audi engineers.

Poor weather forecast for the weekend, rain and cold. :(

I told to Mirek that I will not do any forecast for Barum, but I have to tell that you should not scare people! The general weather picture will be nice! not too cold (up to 25 degrees during the day and 16..17 degrees during the night) and not too hot and some rain on Friday evening and night :-)
Have a good rally :-)

Fantastic decision, many thanks to people responsible for it.

If I were responsible I would mention the chicane in official program, in maps on official website etc. I would try to inform people about it, cause not everybody is reading forum talks.
I know the place, I understand it is dangerous part of stage and I understand why is the chicane there. But from a spectator point of view, I don´t like these unexpectable things on the special stages.

The left-hander into the forest was fast enough even with the chicane. Chicane was placed some 200 metres before the bend in the uphill.

However, we decided to stay at the last of the three hairpins in the forest, a right-one, with a limited vision to the previous hairpin left and the exit with nice S-bends. Kopecky, Mikkelsen and Hänninen were clearly fastest. Hänninen drove only once during the 2 hours 45 minutes we stayed at the shakedown and I didn't checked the watched as he passed, but Kopecky and Mikkelsen were pretty much equal at the point (some 4/5 of the stage), already 3-4 seconds faster than Kresta and Valousek (based on assumption everyone started as the minute changed). Weather was mostly dry, it had rained a few drops before the stage started. Now it have rained a bit more for the city stage and it could rain harder at any moment.

My friend's picture of Kopecky:

https://p.twimg.com/A1oEabJCEAEfNTC.jpg

Triner was also fun to watch. Clearly still learning the car, even drifting a bit, using handbrake unlike anyone else, but his times got better at every run. And he wasn't too far behind, perhaps a top 10 result, even better if retirements happen in front.

Kruuda had problems on both first two runs. First with differentials and then he broke the front left driveshaft.

Now a bit of rest and then - The City Stage!

That's a huge difference indeed! Didn't knew that... But still, I don't see him beat any factory Skoda, maybe on the city stage, but that should be it...

can t say that i expect something different.

"Until the end of the season we managed to get the English version of the latest new Prodrive latest engine specifications. It was not easy, because in England had to drive even the entire car to modify all the components. The engine is completely different because the center of gravity built into the car, has a completely new exhaust headers, new intake system and an electrically driven water pump. We now have some electronic systems such as launch control, which we did not previously available.
"The first time we also can be fitted and factory dampers used in the World Championships. Prodrive sell these dampers, one could, under certain conditions only hire I must say I was quite surprised by the different functionality between our "commercial," and the factory muffler
"I hope he made it. After years spent behind the wheel of cars with two-liter engines, the MINI with a 1.6 l engine still complaining about the lack of performance. But now with an updated version I can spin up to 1000 rpm more. It allows me a lot better cornering. Before, I often had to turn in another sort, "enthusiastically describes changes Václav Pech Jr.."The Barum Rally car ride in top specification, as with him winning this year's Dani Sordo Corsica. We left the car after Bohemia completely converted to the new homologation and first impressions Wenceslas and his testing times are very encouraging. I do not want to make any predictions, but we believe that we have a nice move this one step further, and the differences between us and our competitors are significantly reduced

we ve experienced this kind of rain conditions in Greece to.Its different when it rains heavy continuesly, and much more different when it rains with slow rythm, after some minutes a little bit heavier, and again slowly. While the stage is ''wet'' there are huge differents at grip among cars with very close start numbers

Mirek

Hartusvuori

Engine oil pressure failure for Valousek.

Like Mirek said, the rain was pretty much same for all top drivers. For example Kopecky drifted each lap at our place (against all odds we didn't do bus station). Kopacek spun on the first lap at the cobblestones left. Rain showers throughout the evening provided some spectacle to watch. Very random you get to see race cars from 70-80 years ago drifting...

In terms of tyre choices for the morning loop of two stages, the leading Michelin runners have opted for variety of options. Defending IRC champion has opted for intermediate tyres with one spare. Top seed and fellow ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 driver Juho Hänninen has taken slick tyres with cuts and two spares. Last year’s winner Jan Kopecký is running rain tyres and carrying two spares, while Sepp Wiegand has opted for the same selection.

I am some 7-8 km in Lukov. It's dry with muddy patches.Heavy clouds everywhere...

It looks like the clouds should decrease very soon and there should be no rain or just some marginal rain on the evening stages.

OK, I didn’t about the super rally. I didn’t find any sporting regulations on Barum Czech Rally Zlín (31.8. - 2.9.2012) (http://www.barum.rally.cz/)

On the other hand it hasn’t to be so big fire especially in the engine compartment and it’s all over and the stage was stopped due to Nikara’s accident. A big fire or the car on the middle of the road?

So it’s over for Nikara but it would be good for him if he have could continued to get some experience from these kinds of stages.

Have a nice rally weekend Mirek, Hartusvuori etc.

Great time for Juho on last stage of the day. He is opening his lead compared to Kopecky and certainly compared with Mikkelsen. Go Juho!!

Mirek, you obviously didn't expect Kostka to be so fast......Now I assume we can not underestimate his results in the sprint championship.

Nikara went out to the field when braking and tyres got locked. Was able to avoid to hit the concrete telephone pole, but after that the driver was like a passenger and crashed, when speed was 140 km/h to the old base of the building and the car jumped about 15-20 meters. After that the oil started to burn, but they were able to extinguished the fire.

Can't see the picture.

Nikara comments in his Facebook: "Howdy ho... rallying is tough. First we were doing fastest times in our class and the next minute we are on field with car on fire :-( Well, at least until that it was h*** of a fun and we're both okey which is the most important thing. On a braking wheels locked and we went wide on a field. I managed to avoid hitting a concrete (telephone line) pole, but after that we changed to a role of passengers. And what you know, there were the base of some old building in the field that we hit with speed of some 140 km/h, jumped some 15-20 metres, sump guard flew off and whatnot. Then oil started a fire which we managed luckily to extinguish."

Sad that it ended like this for Nikara, but heck, third fastest in Pindula, that is really, really something. And he wasn't driving that crazy or all over the place, it was just fast.

We did four stages today and it turned out to be a long day. Last drivers started Tesak 2 in darkness, as by the time we left Lukov 2 it was already dark. Tomorrow's a new day and all I will be saying - or shouting - is: "Go Juho Go!"

I think it was good day mostly because of the weather which made it very interesting.Tomorrow it looks like it will be all dry so probably no more surprises but who knows...
Biggest surprise sure Nikara and Kostka.Another point is Mini of Pech.Change to 01B was not only cosmetic. The car really seems to be much better.

Slightly offtopic but I think it would be nice for organizers to invest more on night stages. One thing is to see a city stage in the dark, another is a real proper forest stage.

Rally at night is completely different experience, much better atmosphere and a certain enigmatic feel.

Rally runs perfectly. Both days drizzle, around 20 degrees and is ideal for viewing - no heat Car and audience - much as every year, and the atmosphere is clear

We arrived on Thursday afternoon, sat in the hotel Moskva, located opposite SSE1, trestles, etc. Then the next day we saw a lot of places shakedown late evening for the first stage in the city and watching was tough audience because of the crowds today were the first stage of the day "Slushovitse" and watched twice. Then we were at the start of the penultimate "Lukov."

Unfortunately, today the "Slushovitse" However unpleasant incident happened after one of the historic Lancia cars (which made after the second pass of the main race) managed by Hungarian pilot strikes people most likely stood on benches in one of the many mobile "kebabchiynitsi." Fortunately no serious injuries - a 26-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with internal bleeding assumption, but non-life threatening.

What a sad end to the rally.

R.I.P.

It was not Kopecký’s car that hit the spectators. It was car no 32, a Subaru Impreza.

“A tragic accident has terminated the Barum Czech Rally Zlín
PRESS RELEASE no. 43
