Auto24 Rally Estonia 2012 (20-21st of July) [Archive]

For a third year in successsion I will start separate thread for Rally Estonia, the biggest rally event in our country. This year, the rally is included officially in FIA European Sporting Historic Rally Championship series as well. It is also part of Latvian Rally Championship and Baltic Rally Championship.

You can see that FIA P1 and P2 drivers can test for two days before the rally.

There is information about Prokop with Fiesta WRC and there have been some rumours about some Polish drivers, but cant tell if those romours about Polish drivers are true.

Interesting to see what happens with the entries - FRC Kouvola is one week prior to this, so for NORF testers there are two good test rallies available. I guess many will choose this one due to logistics and accomodation...

By the look of things, this will also be my first rally abroad. :) Pretty early to ask, but are there prepaid micro-SIMs (with mobile broadband) available in Estonia?

Some polish drivers surely could be interested in taking part in this event, but nothing sure as for now as far as I know. Do you know any specific names?

Its nice to see somany Polish drivers here this year :) there are allready 11 different nationalites in Entry list and 7 Different nationalites in Historic event. 16 different nationalites over both events. If Ostberg appear on the list that number will rise :)

It'll be nice to see if there'll be some kind of battle between JML and Garde. Different machinery yes, but RWD and vetomiehiä behind the wheel.

Very nice also to see how this event seems to grow year after year. I must consider visiting it soon, though this year already out of reach for me.

I just went to shopping centre and asked from local Elisa office about mobile internet possibilities. I found out that there is prepaid internet sim-card. Start package costs 3 EUR, it contains sim-card that can be fitted to your internet stick (it shoud be open to the other networks), mobile or i-Pad. If you want to put it dirctly into the computer then they offered to cut it to right size. Then you can buy weekly ticket. It costs 4 EUR and you can have unlimited access to the internet with 1 Mbits/s speed. They have also daily ticket that costs 1 EUR

Historic cars run SS1 twice in a row and they dont do tarmac stage. First stage of a 2th day will be run twice aswell by historics. In a row again.

I will try. However, I am in Sweden from next Monday to Wednesday and must go to Germany on next Saturday. Therefore I am pretty far away from my computer. I will try to be near Otepää on Thursday and Friday.

Currently it looks like it is very cold and little bit rainy a few days before the rally (day temperatures will be below +20 degrees or sometimes only +15). Hoefully it turns better by the rally.

Anyone allready driven through the stages? Are there any good places to spectate and wait for action? :) I know couple of old action places from route, but they drove them last year so maybe a lot of spectators on those places.. Any hints and tips from locals?

Hey, that is nearly true. Forecast has turned to much better than it was on Monday. currently it looks like this.

Shakedown:
some light showers is possibility (mostly before the stage) nothing too bad. Should be nice to spectate and drive. Daily temperature around +17..+19 degrees. Light breeze from west and south-west (4-5 m/s)

Friday:
Morning should be rainy,many rainshowers and almost everywhere. Sleep long :-) There is a high possibility that rain eases off for most of the stages and will return at around 8 PM. So, high risk for the city stage. It will be colder day +16..+18 degrees. But less wind (north-west) as well (2-3 m/s).

Saturday:
Currently it looks like it will be dry.Maybe some very isolated showers but mostly very dry and nice weather. it will be
little bit warmer than Friday (when the sun is out) temperature around +16..+19. wind 3-4 m/s (west).

CHUCHAŁA off on the first stage on the third km of the first stage 200 meters from me. left front tyre off the rim and some problems with the whole front left. Jouni Pampunen rolled with his historic BMW on the same place. People say that it was 7 times (I was on the other side of the crest and heard many bumps indeed). Car was something like 50 m from the road. One of them was taken to the hospidal after the stage (he was not feeling good).

Around fifty more cars had big moments there, including car nr 86 ;-).

By the way, it was the same place where Thomas Alsgard (skier) went off a few years back. It is blind crest where cars like to go straight on... but it is easy right and easy left then.

It was a very nice rally, my first one abroad. :) Organization was great, good service park and nice action, I saw Korhonen rolling 7x and two minor offs and especially the top guys were nice to watch. Also funny to see many cars from Baltia which I have only seen on video before.

Luckily HANS is mandatory, I happened to visit a local nightclub yesterday and the views were a bit different than in Finland, my neck... :D

As a driver of the yellow BMW, I highly recommend HANS to everybody after this slight off. We had never used it before but after this one there will be no questions about it. Codrivers helmet was broken even with side support seats, do not know what hit it. Few ribs, one broken vertebra but we got out of it with luck (obviously also with somebodys protection from above...) Car was surprisingly well in order, needs mainly new roof and front cage but very little after all.
