Yes indeed a bit early, but already made a list of potential entries for the Belgian IRC event.

I would have thought Hanninen would be going there as he is also doing an ERC programme? I think Kopecky might stand a better chance on this event though and I am sure he could afford to miss one round of the Czech Championship... This could be the hardest rally for Skoda to win this year with no Freddy Loix in their team!

List is by far not perfect yet.. :p Tlustak need to be removed, forgot that.. So I can always need some good tips also, other foreign drivers who not driving a S2000 is also good.

I don't tend to follow the IRC but this year my brother is coming over to Europe from Canada and is desperate for some motorsport, so we've picked Ypres as the venue for a family gathering :D

I've not been before so any tips would be gratefully received, for example the website talks about tickets, do you need stage tickets like Rally GB or is it just a case of turning up on the day?

Mirek
23rd April 2012, 13:26
If I remember it is possible without tickets if You don't use access roads to public areas but I had ticket last time. Anyway these public areas are mostly boring junctions. Strongly recommended to go to fast fast fast and even faster places :D . That's the best You can see in Ypres. There are tons of field roads so with little walk You can get almost everywhere. Than wait for helicopter to pass before start. It checks spectators on places without marshals and it will force You to be far from the road. When it's gone You can choose any place You want. But sometimes it returns after a while ;)

I'm already looking forward to return this year :)

mousti
23rd April 2012, 13:29
True they don't find enough people to cover all the access roads because there are so much. And indeed don't go to public zones, boring sections plus very crowded.

EightGear
24th April 2012, 18:24
Must say I'm looking forward to Ypres. It could well be the rally with the strongest field of the year. It will be interesting to see how Snijers will go now that he is more used to the Mini.

P.S: Ypres also counts for the Dutch championship this year but it has no tags in the topic title [IRC] [ERC] [BRC]. Not a big deal but just wanted to say it. ;)

mousti
24th April 2012, 18:37
Yes indeed but could addes then BHRC and EHRC too :D would be very long :P

which drivers for Netherlands are expected to go ?

I expect Kobus (Fiesta S2000), Van Loon and Ten Brinke (Fiesta WRC --> RRC ?). And who else ?

mousti
25th April 2012, 19:11
Normally I expect Kobus too, maybe Ten Brinke indeed, don't really think Van Loon and maybe van Eldik also. And offcourse for production/R4 Jasper vd Heuvel! I don't hope on Abbring and Weijs with their VW programs.

Bad news today is that it's announced that Total is quitting as a co-main sponsor..

Mirek
25th April 2012, 19:35
I think there are 3 or 4 Fabias S2000 at the garage of Wevers so he shall find some use for them ;)

RS
5th May 2012, 15:31
Is Neuville doing WRC New Zealand?.. And if he isn't does that mean there is a chance to see him on Ypres?

mousti
5th May 2012, 16:35
He's not doing New Zealand but there's no word yet of doing Ypres..

RS
5th May 2012, 16:55
He's not doing New Zealand but there's no word yet of doing Ypres..

It would be good to keep his tarmac skills sharp with all these WRC gravel events, and a Ypres win is one he should have on his CV really :)

mousti
5th May 2012, 16:58
For sure, he wouldn't hesitate for a second to start there for the victory, but PSA has to want it too.

Let's see how our Belgian drivers can do against him. I'm thinking about Demaerschalk, Aucquier and Cherain

At the Rallye du Touquet (which has roads kind of similar to belgian rallies), Quentin was between 1s and 0.5s/km quicker than Kevin. Quentin had a better knowledge of the rally though so it will be interesting to see how he does on the Westhoek roads and it will be for sure spectacular!!

Only Ypres for Molly Taylor with that car or other rounds of diverse championships(in UK or Australia, etc)

Finally 4 rallies for Molly in the "italian" DS3 R3, but only Ypres as IRC events(her other rallies will be Città di Luca in Italy, Finland and Germany/WRC)...

Bit of a weird decision IMO as I think Ypres is one of the few events Jan should have an advantage over Juho, but I guess they are just looking at their main aims in an uncompromising way.

Mirek
12th June 2012, 14:08
I don't understand that either. Czech championship is already pretty much secured for Jan. Considering Loix will be in a private car I think Jan would have good chance to win in Ypres as it is an event where he is really fast. On the other hand Juho is not a fan of Ypres at all...

mousti
12th June 2012, 14:27
Indeed Jan is unbeatable in CZ Kresta can't follow him from the first meter, he won already everything. Kopecky is Nr 1 to beat Loix because I think the chances that Andreas will screw it up once again are not really low. And Juho don't fit in this event I think plus only once started here.

In spite of the horrible accident in Sicily, we will go to Ypres to see the rally as we originally planned. It’s a shame that so many drivers seem to cancel their entry but of course I completely understand their decision.

By the way, would anyone have stage maps for Saturday or know where they could be found? The maps would be a big help for our planning. So far I have only found the maps of Friday’s stages.

After Loix his problems we went to the test of Mikkelsen and Hanninen. Hanninen was very fast, braking late and having very good, clean lines.

Maybe Hanninen can do better than some of us think?

He is a much better asphalt driver than last time he drove Ypres, and if it is wet or slippery he is in his element. What's the forecast?

Freddy runs the 2C-Competition car.

Saintéloc have 3 207 i believe, one crashed by Burri in Chablais, and the two used by Cedric Robert and Ludovic Gal last weekend in France. Gal went off the road and had to retire so maybe this car cant be ready for Ypres which leave them with 1 207 for Gonon...

Thank you! It is a bit strange and confusing at the same time. 2WD cup in IRC is one very interesting thing. If I am not mistaken, then Porche 996, Porche 911, Ford fiesta R2 and Toyota Yaris are all fighting in the same category for the drivers points in Ypres:-)

It's not a question of registration. The reason is that those GTs are not FIA cars. Only FIA cars are allowed to score in IRC.

Has the historic got a totally different route to the IRC this year?
Can we still get our maps from Ieper or do we need to go to Boezinge now?

Not the best year for Ypres with so many S2000's failing to get at the start for various reasons..

Yes but last year was exceptionally good - so anything after that was likely to be an anti-climax. Hope the weather is good for you M

Bit of a mess really that they let Sordo score in Corsica, but I guess IRC wanted the publicity as much as Mini wanted the exposure there. If Sordo hadn't been allowed to score there Kopecky would have been sitting on the points of three wins now...

As usual. JML N2. VW will be stupid if it choose Mikkelsen, but not Juho

That depends what they want him for. If Andreas is to be a third driver at VW then he is young and has time to learn. I agree that Juho is more "ready" right now. I would actually consider taking him over JML for a no.2. Sure Jari-Matti is fast but he is so unreliable, even after all these years experience.

Anyway, it sure looks like Andreas is going to make a meal of winning the IRC this year. I actually still think Juho or Jan could take the title, even with limited programmes.

What is the role of Lotus car on this rally?

Running as a course car, the machine will be eligible for the IRC 2WD Cup when it’s homologated for competition use. It’s the first time it has been used on a competitive event.

Bernardo Sousa, who has taken part on selected rounds of the IRC in the past, will drive the car.

"I am very pleased to be at the Geko Ypres Rally, even if I’m only driving the Exige as a course car,” said Sousa.
“This presence will certainly help us to start having some stage time comparisons against those who will be our next opponents.
"During the tests the car has improved continuously and I am discovering its great potential day after day.”

On the video he asks Ola to repeat a note about the T- cross, but it was too late to brake to take the corner. Starts again and Andreas says there is something wrong wit left front, and thinks it is a puncture and stops to change it, but then sees there is more damage to the radiator. Isn't this "poor entry" the best entry list in this year's IRC?

In my opinion, the entry list of the Tour de Corse this year was better. Also the Barum Rally and the Rally Sanremo should have better entry lists.

Congratulations to Juho Hänninen/Mikko Markkula and Škoda for another nice victory, also the 3rd victory in a row for Škoda in Ypres. :)

Tsjoen proves again to be the best non international Belgian rally driver, look how far the rest is. Sometimes you read it is because he has the most money, for me he has showed this is wrong (again) this weekend.

Very nice performance of Hanninen, putty Loix wasn't closer.

A lot of crashes on YouTube:

Pity Verschueren didn't make it to the finish. We saw him on Hollebeke and the VW made a lot of noise, probably the collector broken, they had this problem a lot on the Polo S2000 in the past. The 2 Polo's were a nice and spectacular addition to the IRC field.

Mikkelsen's accident. Looks to me like a little bit more than 10mph impact which he said!: IRC YPRES CRASH OF MIKKELSEN IN SS7 - Video Gallery - IRC Intercontinental Rally Challenge - Eurosport (http://t.co/c1nbTS0l)

Very fragile cars today. Remember when McRae rolled 2 or 3 times and still finished the rally.

It was a nice rally ! Hanninen, Loix et Mikkelsen are very very fast. Snijers had a good speed and Flodin could be faster with michelin tyres !!
