You guys and gals (or maybe it should read guys and/or gals?) need to fill me in on how you pick such good teams year in and year out.
I run the joint but my teams always stink!

It looks like the leaders all have fairly meh drivers but a good chassis and any engine other than Cosworth. I guess I only really picked Schumacher because I was going to base the team around Force India (mistake!), and he was the most expensive driver I could afford when doing that. Although I'm surprised he only has 2 points, I'm not really surprised that he's not challenging for the title etc. Though I still feel bad about the lost pole, not that he would have finished that race anyway. Should've gone for Grosjean though, he looks more likely to get a result if he can just get around that first corner!

Oh Hammy.... I hope this pace continues because Grosjean and Vergne looked pretty slow!

A pretty good race for me. Red Bull didn't quite deliver in the end, but on the other hand Mercedes was the top engine and Grosjean second among drivers. Also managed to increase my advantage over chasers in the overall standings in P2, which, by the way, is the best, where I can finish this year anyway.

Monaco was a nice variation. Now back to regularly scheduled non-points finishes for Hulkenberg and Vergne. I really thought Hulk would find a way to bag points in the FI every couple of races!

I really thought Hulk would find a way to bag points in the FI every couple of races!@ N jones as well, I feel your pain. My other driver Vergne, was the one I thought might score a few points for me when I picked my team. If Ferrari would have pitted Alonso, the lap after Hamilton I'm pretty sure I would be looking at second place points, for the Ferrari lump. This is not the kind of fantasy I'm really digging these days. :D

Perez finally came through with some good points for me! :D
Overall a great race for me. Fun to watch, my FGP team did well, and essentially all my favorite drivers finished in the top 10.
I tied for 5th today, which is a great day for my team after some not so great finishes.
Interesting results though. Three people tied for second, three people tied for 5th, and two people for 8th.

Truth^^^ Grosjean (the artist's formerly known as Renault) will always be good on hot dry tracks, but FGP is very tight at the top, and Toro Rosso in Vergne hands would double down for me with the lump. But I think it's going to take a crazy rain race for those fools to score

Slash Racing
Pilot 3 Sutil 1
Pilot 2 Vergne 6
Pilot 1 Grosjean 10
Lump Ferrari 9

While you guys are wondering about finishing in top6 or top10 by the end of the season, I myself think I should have a decent chance of finishing in top3 if the season carries on in current way. The main obstacle I can see to that is if Ferrari/McLaren manage to get a clear advantage over Red Bull. My team is particularly allergic to the success of Ferrari. There is nothing in my team about Ferrari (neither chassis nor engine nor a driver), so when they win it can only influence me badly. Malaysian GP was the low-point of my season, I was tied for only P39 there. :p : The resurgence in Ferrari's competitiveness since the beginning of the European season is a slight concern.

Right now 1st through 12th have used their Bonus races. However there are many that are close that have not. I think that the key to this puzzle is how will McLaren Finnish this season? I have not studied the teams but I'm guessing that a lot of entrants have either the McLaren Chasis, and or Mercedes Lump. Mercedes the team was over-hyped and I think they will disappoint but FI will be helpful. McLaren and Mercedes are not particularly kind to their tires especially in hot conditions. Ferrari is in the same boat although I think that the form in Canada may change because they may not have anticipated the new exhaust affecting the tires, either by cooking them with gas or just the added down force they gained, in the rear tires are causing more wear. What they do have going for them is IMO a platform that may very well evolve until the last race of the season. Jens you do look very solid and as you have said It will take a tremendous return to the top by Ferrari for you to have a bad result, but I wouldn’t start counting my chickens yet ;)
Grosjean is starting to look like the deal of the century

I have only just looked after being away for a while.
I won in Canada with 110 points. Bonus weekend, but a good score.
I tried to choose my Bonus race, cleverly.
Lewis is normally good around Montreal and so it proved. Also its a race where lower teams often finish up the field. As Sauber did. And Ferrari did OK. So nearly everything came together and got me a haul of points and taken me to third. Sweet
Back into the championship battle. ;)
Just need Vergne to start hauling in points and I'll be flying. :(

Well, this was a terrible race for my team. Alonso-Ferrari won (I have mentioned it before that this scenario would be disastrous for me), not a good day for RBR nor Mercedes engine, even worse for Grosjean. Now with Alonso rocketing ahead in the championship, it is really making my situation critical. If Alonso pulls away and wins the WDC, I won't be a front-runner any more.

Man... I was hoping for a podium finish this year. But in retrospect, I really chose a bad combination. General wisdom in previous years was that spending on drivers isn't the best strategy, but this year, because the teams are so close and no manufacturer ahead of everyone else, even midfield/affordable drivers are getting good points, so unless you picked absolutely the worst driver combination possible (like me), then spending on midfield drivers was a wise strategy this year.
If I was to choose my team now, it would be a Renault engine, a Lotus chassis and at least one respectable driver.

Well, my hopes of finishing at the top of the leaderboard are gradually coming to an end, because Alonso is absolutely dominating the WDC standings. I won't blame Grosjean - he has nonetheless collected quite a lot of points by now (who expected him to collect 60+ points before the season, while choosing him as their driver?) and more than other midfield drivers. That's what's so great about this form of fantasy GP racing. Instead of constantly jumping ship, your fate is the fate of the actual team chassis, the overall implementation of the engine program, and the ups and downs of your drivers! Having a tough year? Imagine what it's like for the people actually involved in a particular program or for the driver down on his luck; a small part of you is right there with them!

Well, now when Ferrari/Alonso didn't shine, my race was instantly much better. :p :
Teams, who have chosen Räikkönen as their driver, have a clear 1-2 in the standings. Kimi has turned out to be a brilliant choice at a relatively cheap price, which still enabled to save enough money for decent chassis and engine.
We having been discussing a lot about the efficiency of Grosjean in this thread. I think in retrospect he has turned out to be the second best choice on the price/points-scoring scale. Who would have thought Lotus can be that good all season?
Also Lotus itself is probably the best chassis on the price/points scale. I think anyone, who has anything about Lotus in his/her team (driver or chassis), has done well by getting a decent points accumulator at a good bargaining price, while still saving money to get some additional strong point-collectors.
Now think about this:
Räikkönen (15M) + Grosjean (9M) + Lotus (13M) + Ferrari (9M) = 46M. I think had anyone opted for this, it would have been a dream team. Imagine having absolutely everything - chassis, engine and both drivers scoring well. What would be the amount of points of such combo by now?

Anything you would like to add?Koz I don't like those terms at all, plus I think you are cheating yourself. I suggest you chose one pilot to win (I assume your choice is Kimi), and I chose one pilot to win. If neither wins than we have no bet. If one gets taken out tough titties. I would like to recommend a side bet that maybe someone like N. Jones, Jens, or anyone else for that matter may want to place: If Igornado takes out both of our pilots that punter gets to give us both sigs to use. Plus the sigs should not be crude or caustic, just good natured ribbing.

Somehow the I goofed the placing of the range for the rank function. When someone with 540 points is ranked higher than someone with 580 points there is definitely a problem! :)

So I was away for a few GPs, I come back and looks like I've had a few decent results. Two 6th place and a 5th place in the last 3 races. Who knew!
Still barely hanging in at top 20, but perhaps I now have a chance of at least finishing in the top 20.

Lewis Hamilton starting on pole is a great way for me to begin this race. If he wins it could really help me hold on to a top 15 finish.

Vettel's and Red Bulls four consecutive wins helped me back into Top10 in the overall standings, but I have had too many off-weekends to really compete for anything higher than that. Well, sort of like McLaren this season. Start was promising, but then fizzled off.

Sure he does, all he needs is Kimi to retire from the USGP and a poor showing from RBR.

My season has rather gone the way of Mercedes.
Won a race in the early season and a few top 5 finishes, but now I have been sliding done the order and now and 30th.
Just hope for a decent final race and hold onto a top 30 in my first season of Fantasy F1.
Building ready for 2013.

For 2012 the Champion had finished no higher than 6th in the first ten races. After the summer break things turned around in a big way. The 2012 Champion finished lower than 25th only twice in the second half to win the team's first championship.

As FGP's new World Champion! :champion:
Congrats!!
Our 2nd place podium finisher was 5th overall last season. Give it up for
Team Marlboro Koz Racing :bigcry:
Those are tears of joy, friends!
Last but certainly not least our third podium finisher:
Awesome Mustangs!
Congratulations to ALL of our podium finishers!
And now, a special mention to our top ten finishers:
4th goes to Stasio i Jasio GP, who couldn't pull off our first double champion. Great Try!
5th is Studiose Racing, who was an early leader in FGP but couldn't hang onto a top spot. Nevertheless Studiose fought hard to grab a top five finish.
6th is our other early leader - Sentinel Racing. They led most of the early GPs until a driver and a chassis let them down a bit.
7th is Red Passion Team, who I believe came on strong late in the season.
8th is Mussara F1 who, after a shaky start was consistent throughout the campaign to stay in the top ten.
9th, Rocky Road, was much like Mussara, yo-yo'ing early on until stabilizing in the top ten.
10th is PSF1, who also put up a good fight and never lost sight of a top ten finish.
Congrats to all of you!
THANK YOU to everyone who played! You are the reason I do this every year.
I think I am going to promote FGP a little more often in the other threads and see if we can drum up some interest. When I took over in 2009 FGP had 80 participants. Four years later we seemed to have settled in the 50-55 range. I would like to get up to a higher number again and I think learning how to build a website would be more of a help than a hindrance.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate you joining up and for commenting on this thread throughout the year.
