Loeb v JML ... 2.2 sec apart.
Hopefully this time we finally we get a straight fight, with no accidents or mechanical issues, and see who is really fastest on gravel...

WRC.com as always..... No info about Novikov`s out, but article about 'Tanak want another kick from Wilson'
Let`s wait - will they publish my tweet: 'Novikov. Friday: steering wheel, turbo, gear lever. Today: water pump. Is it WRC or N4 car? #FordWRC #WRC #acropolisrally #novikov'
This is ridiculous. Tell Jeny to go through Ford's tents in the service park in full throttle and stop in the glass-aluminium HQ. Its pointless to drive anymore. Then go to public media and speak for all absurds in this team so nobody rent a car from MW anymore

With the rope you get out everything :D
Its not only the rope. While one person mounts/dismounts it, another one tells the driver to wait and then go. Another one steps on the car to provide needed pressure and traction on the axle. Almost like an F1 pit crew :D

Bad luck for Matti :(
Loeb is who pushes Latvala and the other drivers to their limits. There is where punctures and accidents happen, where stones or whatever always appear. It's not bad luck, it's lack of talent.
Now it's the chance for Petter. Not a real chance, he hasn't the speed needed for it. He lost it many years ago, that's why he hasn't win for years.

Maybe not the best time to back up such logic when he at service lagged Loeb by 3.3 sec over 244km of full attack, when excluding ss1 where he obviously made a terrible tire choice.

Interesting Rally now!
I do hope there won't be any technical gremlins for Petter's Ford.... and hope people who have doubted him, said he doesn't have it in him to win a rally anymore... Look how is has been going with the Ford, this rally and previous ones. With out mechanical issues and things with the Ford... he's been doing pretty well since the good old days at Subaru!

Petter has not speed anymore ............................. :D
Well here I actually do think that Loeb can control the first place.......but otherwise I fully agree with you. After last season everyone was saying how Petter doesn't have speed.. Who has most stage wins this year (excluding greece)... yes Petter. Sure quite a lot of them are where the leaders weren't pushing, but quite a lot of them are when they were as well. He does certainly have speed to be a factory driver.
He doesn't have much consistency, but he kind of never really had that compared to Loeb.
So...... next SS will be crucial to Petter. If he is able to cut couple of more seconds to Seb, tomorrow will be an interesting day, otherwise Seb will regulate till end. Then, yes or yes Petter should try to go flat out....

I think after Latvala had the puncture Loeb went into risk management mode and accepted a time loss, however 10s going into the final day is not enough to cruise especially seeing as Solberg has enough pace to keep the pressure on. If there are no punctures or mechanical problems there will be a good fight but Loeb is definitely the favourite.

I don't tell You that You shall not be proud but I would prefer if JML could fight for championship not to win several stages and crash. After all those years everyone knows he is bloody fast but the time has come and he shall make the last step for the championship - at best in time when Loeb is still active. The first champion after Loebs retirement will always be seen as the second best who was lucky that Loeb ended career...

Just come back from stages.Today we had a light programm with only 3 stages.Klenia1,Ziria1,Kefalari2.
Ziria is a fantastic stage with very fast gravel, and the point we watched was a 5th gear ''S'' +200meters straight downhill at 20% ,and brakes for a slowly uphill easy left with 4th gear. All this at a road with 15-20 meters width and no stones. :D
Mikkos pass was a bit risky but spectacular and vary late on brakes. Also very late was Jari and Petter.Loeb wasnt so late, but had a better exit from previous ''S'' with 5th gear. Its amazing how can exit such a fast corners with totally straight steering and getting at gas so early.Perfect passages from Jari and Petter too,but with more sliding almost using all 20 meters width of road at ''S'' exit.Petter at Klenia 1, at brakes for a 90 degree right slow uphill corner, was 1 meter out of road.Tottaly from 9 stages i watched at 7 of them Petter was taking big risks, some of them not for his level.
Very good was Novikov too.I ve seen 9 stages so far and was fast and with right lines, with no risk at all points i watched.Pitty for him now he finds rythm and speed, to ruined from a such mechanical gremlins.Nasser again very spectacular but time stages are not good.
Ostberg not ''like'' from me today.Same for Prokop for all days.Araujo same.Nobre spin in front of me with 1st gear and tried to climb a concrete fench about 1 meter high when he started again...after few minutes we saw that he retired from a broken wheel.
Neuville was better today with clearer lines.
Pwrc cars were really disgrace. There is no comparison in the old good days of Hanninen Aigner,Flodin,Nasser etc.
Mikkelsen Ogier were in a big fight, pitty they had so many problems with their Fabias. At all the stages were totally flat out.
About the Seb-Petter fight seems that Seb is controlling.lets hope to have a good fight till the power stage even if i doubt it if Petter will try to push more.
About Jari what can i say.Again a wide line....i ve lost counting for such these moments for him. When you see him or Petter you know it s a matter of time to happen.
Weather today was so unpredictable. Was raining, then stop for a while ,after again some small showers, after some heavy clouds etc.Really difficult to have good choices as in some places was raining and at some not,at the same stage.
Tomorrow i ve plan to see Agioi Theodoroi 1 &2 +power stage with my son.

I rest my case............
all spectators are not rally freaks in a wrc rally. If there is a possibility to have other ''problems''(injury-death) from some spectators that they see a rally car at first time,i prefer the crew to retire.
A fiesta wrc car is 1230 kg +70 liters of fuel+ driver+co driver=1450kg+
If you was there with other 10 guys, are you sure that you can lift 130 kg at a 45 degrees downhill stepping at loose gravel where when just walking on it your feet goes 15cm inside the loose gravel?if you could lift 130 kg,you could find immediately other 9 persons that they could lift 130 kg while stepping at loose gravel? get real mate.

Thank you for your feedback!
Tomorrow should look like this:
SS18 dry, mostly sunny, temperature around +17..+19 degrees, light wind from NW ( 2 m/s)
SS19 dry, mostly sunny temperature around +17..+18 degrees, light NW wind
SS20 Cloudy, should be mostly dry, slight rain possibility, specially for the later starters. +19..+21 degrees
SS21 Cloudy, Very difficult to call, looking from today I must say that it is most probably dry again. Howevere, as the time goes by, the possibility of the rain showers increses. temperature +19..+21 degrees (Celsius). Tomorrow morning I can say more clearly.
SS22 Powerstage. It is raining, most probably. rainshowers etc. are the possibility. However, not so heavy as they were today.
So, I guess that brave guys choose hard tyres for the whole day. However, it is more clear by tomorrow morning.

you can predict every rally for the rest of 21012:
Ford will fail mechanical, Latvalla wil crash, Solberg will crash, Loeb will win, Hirvonen will be second.

Latvala yesterday tried to finish the stage with the puncture but ultimately had to stop and change the tyre. Loeb probably stopped immediately. 1:40 time loss is average time, they must have took it quite easy. Remember Sardegna 2009 when he did only ~1min and a few seconds?

I know that Škoda guys do the tyre change with everything according to the rules at around 1:30 in practise so 1:40 by Loeb is sure possible without violation of rules if everything goes well (hard surface, no problem with jack etc.). I remember Kris Meeke was known for such quick changes in his JWRC days...
One problem particularly with Fords is extreme suspension travel which means You have to lift car veeery high to change tyre. JML also yesterday did more damage, not just puncture.

Come on! Give the guy some credit, at least he didnt touch the ground with the roof of his Fiesta during the whole rally. And most of the car was in one piece by the end of the rally! That is an improvement!
Mikkelsen has done nearly 50 rallies in IRC+WRC. Looks like he is getting better with the retirement rate. Last couple of events have been bad indeed. And he needs to learn tramac more.

just came back from my 29th Acropolis rally.
Today i watched as sceduled 3 stages,Agioi Theodoroi 1&2 and power stage.Power stage was the first 4 km of Agioi Theodoroi,so you could watch 3 different stages without using a car.
Congrats to Loeb and Elena for their
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uZEssj_h51o/Txfpiggk1CI/AAAAAAAACk4/w7sP6sAxLpM/s1600/71a.jpg
victory.Well deserved all the 28 points they earned. At morning i was at 4th km of Agioi Theodoroi in a very fast left to right corner.Again same scenery as previous days. Not very wide, early in gas in exits and fast.Mikko same but with less speed and always in center of road.
Petter again very wide touching the mound of the road.Latvala same as Petter.Same at next spots we watched. At power stage was at the finish line at last corner,a left 5th gear flat out with very wide road coming from a 5th gear right one.
Mistake for Mikkelsen, but at his first Acropolis and flat out hunting Ogier, think he can be ''forgiven''
Congrats to Ogier for his speed and his effectiveness.Perfect job he done.
Bluuford was totally correct for his weather forecast. At morning sunny at this stage as he said.At second pass was cloudy, and at power stage he said high possibility for showers. We had a little shower at the beginning of power stage but so little that road conditions didn t change. This guy is crazy!!Two days was almost 99% right at his predictions for each stage i watched.
About Petter what can i say? If you read my Friday and Saturday posts you will see that i was waiting for the drama to happen.
I watched 12 stages, and Petter wasn t overdriving just at Ziria stage,at all the others was clearly visible that was at +100%.
Big mistake for him and for Ford.Everything is lost now, even their confidence.
For me he had to settle for 2nd position and not overdriving,he was 2nd at drivers champ,he could grab the chance if Loeb would give to him at next rallies with a retirement with so small diff in points they had.Now even Loeb retires he would be again leader with margin. Also lost the 2nd position from Mikko at drivers champ.
Same mistake for Petter as Jaris previous ones.
The big laugh is Malcolms interview at wrc.com

Rallyper hope you enjoyed the Acropolis rally and your stay in my country.

ok now on a more serious note a few thoughts of the event
Loeb was just the typical Loeb...fast everywhere with sniper stage winning accuracy when it mattered...now he can relax a bit since the ford boys do all the work for him...and the tarmac rounds to go
Solberg was carried away and thought he could catch Loeb...ok the fighting spirit is all good and of course we can all sympathise a true fighter when it fails against a superior opponent...but at this time and age Solberg should consider a Hirvonen attitude if he wants to be a contender (good luck with that from now on)... of course the fact that he doesn't, wins him fans but not any rallies for some time now.
Latvala again showed that he can push Loeb like no other...the same mistakes, magic rocks and bad luck (pick whatever floats your boat) appeared again...next year a new try for him.
Hirvonen continues to be the best jumper and i think he can be considered the best second driver EVER !!! maybe the No1 status returns in a few years....maybe
about the privateers i think Ostberg is in a stalemate condition....i didn't see a single flaire of brilliance in the whole event..he was just there...a good rally driver but that is that. Tanak has all the potential to be a true contender...i liked his approach and attitude and also his speed, hope he finds the support to stay in the sport and evolve out of his very consistent mistakes...same goes for novikov, i will always be a fan of the crazy russian.
Araujo and Al attyiah are actually much slower when it comes to stage times than they actually look, especially al attyiah who i think he can be called a rally driver, araujo was ok the first day, then his performance was closer to nobre than the others
Ogier was very fast once more !!! lets hope VW knows what they are doing with their WRC !!!
Mikkelsen was very fast as well but a bit away from ogiers pace...he could easily stand as a 3rd VW driver next year.
Nobre is NOT a rally driver... his green mouthpiece is faster than him.
from the rest i really liked guerra until he retired then he took it easy, and Jebilly !!!
Very dissapointed by the greek crews... using their cars like moving advertising banners is a disgrace.

Ok, just got home.
Nice rally! I did not watch so many stages as in other years but the spots were amazing! IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THE LAST 1.5 KM OF AGIA MARINA STAGE!!! So so so so downhill with 5th and 6th gear! Rocks did not stop rolling not even between the gaps from one car to another!!! Very risky choice from organisers because if somebody start rolling there he could even end up in the sea.... :) But the spectacle was SUPER!!!
Loeb is 100% accurate in every pass in every corner in every stage! He does not slide not even 1 cm more then it is needed. Maybe it is too difficult for the others not to try to combine the driving with some fun. Too much sideways... but to be honest that is what brings people to mountains. We rallyfreaks can understand the committment of Seb to his job and get so excited with his times but I think it is not the same for the average rallyfans!!! Petter is cheared in every corner and his driving style is the reason.
I was expecting a bit more from Tanak and Neuville, and the Skoda guys are a miracle to watch!!! Flat out EVERYWHERE! The Arabs are very spectacular (all of them). I also want to give my congratulations to Koci because his passes were very brave! Cookie is not that bad, there are worse drivers in PWRC! And the top 5 "Academies" are also super to watch!!!
Some rumours that I heard include that Acropolis was the last rally of Nokia as WRC sponsor, and that Wilson Jnr is coming back soon, probably in one of the following rallies.
So many people from the forum were at the rally and I was hoping to meet a few more at the meeting at Waves where only dimviii and RallyPer showed up. Per, you are a true rally gentleman!!!! Hope my suggestions made your trip easier and also hope to chat with you again soon from close!
I really really hope Acropolis will be again next year in the calendar but I cannot see it happening ...

I also want to give my congratulations to Koci because his passes were very brave! Cookie is not that bad, there are worse drivers in PWRC!
If I'm not mistaken it was first ever gravel event for Koči and also first ever WRC event.

We're at the airport now. Was a really good rally again! Did 12 stages! Photos and video will probably online tonight.

big disappointment for me is Petter....again! Sad to see how he wasted a solid 2nd place, but ok, at least he tried it :/
Loeb is just the best for sure, even a puncture was not in the way to his win....its called the rallye of gods, so the rallye of Seb....
Who deserves a mention is Martin Prokop i think, solid 5th place, not far behind Ostberg, he made 32 points in the last 3 rallyes....congrats!

I was too gutted to use my humour around Solberg... it was a very emotional moment.

If I can remember in 2011/10 Acropolis Rally was free to the public? Free programs and free access to stages meaning no tickets? Was it like this this year? I think that's great but how does it support the organizers.....

Acropolis Rally is free to public. The programme was free the last 2 years. This year the cost for it was 1.5 Euros!
Very nice rally again this year!!!

Yes it is free an what an amazing event it is too! I got back at 1am this morning and still too knackered too write anything in great detail, but we did over 1200km road miles, 12 stages (Plus one road section!) and saw some great action in a stunning location.
I will post some pics and videos in the next couple days!
edit: I think I might have seen you Tolis at shakedown near the finish, but wasnt sure so didnt say anything in the end!

the rally has no ticket to watch the stages or the service park, but the program was never free, it was usually sold in news stands or was given along with some car magazines...
The organisers got money only from sponsors and entry fees ects... i think it would be good to have a ticket for the rally, not something ridiculous like rally GB or japan but lets say 10 euros per person per day to watch whatever you like it is not that expensive and it would help the organisers a great deal i think...
now of course is a bit late... i doubt the rally will hold its place.

if anyone will/can record and post it somewhere will be very nice. hope this in not the official wrc footage though
it will be a shame if Acropolis will no longer be part of wrc calendar. from the comments from everyone in the forum, it seems that it is a real classic and shame to loose it. i cant remember to read so many positives for other rallies here. i was planning to visit this year but did not manage in the end, hope that I will have the chance again at some point. for me it seems only wrc this year it Wales and get ripped off by their silly prices... :(

^^^This...only I got to an extra stage because I dug in and walked up to the start of Ziria :D (we parked in the town, not realising that there was a car park near the top). Was worth it for the view though, wow!! Was quite chuffed to manage Shakedown, QS, Kineta, Thiva, Elikonas 1, Bauxites 1 & 2, Thiva 2, Klenia, Kefalari, Ziria, Klenia 2, Ziria 2 and Aghii Theodori 1&2, even if it did mean a lot of rushing round, the occasional wrong turn and only seeing the top 17 through most stages (although the skill level dropped off so severely after Mikkleson that it didn't matter too much). Given a bit more effort/going to different stage locations I reckon we could have made Kefalari 2 as well, plus we blew off the power stage in favour of a much needed shower on the beach in Loutraki.
Currently going through pictures (and deleting a lot of them) so should have them up soon.

Al-Attiyah crash:
WRC 2012 Acropolis - Al-Attiyah's DS3WRC crash - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D83kgMZE3NM) .
Araujo and Al attyiah are actually much slower when it comes to stage times than they actually look, especially al attyiah who i think he can be called a rally driver
Could i see it as "Armindo is not as slow has the timesheet shows"?
Another rally and another victory to Loeb, nothing new and nothing the will not be seen in the future.
Sebastien Loeb is well above all the others, the guy is perfect, rarely make mistakes, and has the best car between hands. While this lasts, Loeb and Citroen will always win. And has there is no champions without lucky, he also has the lucky when he needs. No doubts about that.
WRC never had such a perfect driver, and that's why he is well above all the others. It's a wast of time (and it's not fair) to criticize Solberg and Latvala because they fail, and they fail because they have to take much more risks to be able to challenge Citroen and Loeb. In Greece the Ford boys made what was possible to do, and failled, they and the team.

What a nice rally! I really enjoyed it! We watched 11 stages+SD this year! I really liked the spectacular driving of Latvala and the aggressive Ogier. Loeb was the winner as expected. When I saw the 10 secs difference between Seb and Petter, I was sure that Petter won't be able to take the win. He can't win Loeb, if the later doesn't face any problems. I was disappointed though to see him stopped in SS Aghioi Theodoroi. He was very sad, pity... I want once to see either JML or Solberg beating Loeb... Really liked the Academy drivers, Martin Koci (very very good driving). Enjoyed the Al Rajhi's lights! When he saw a lot of people, he switched on the lights. It seems the Arabs are very friendly in the end! The PWRC drivers were a disappointment, except for Fuchs and Guerra.
Nice to meet 8 forum members! :)
@J4MIE: Pity we didn't meet!
Let's hope the Acropolis Rally is again in the calendar next year!
