Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari have issued notice of their intention to withdraw their membership of the Formula One Teams Association, citing the RRA differences as the reasons.

We already knew that RRA and, consequently, FOTA were in danger. Red Bull and Ferrari are just turning on the heat, but this doesn't necessarily mean that this is the end of FOTA. Perhaps they're just looking for a stronger negotiating position. You never know what the big boys are up to...

Anyway, this part is interesting:

Sources have revealed that the four biggest teams – Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Mercedes – have agreed to meet privately within the next fortnight to try and make progress on the RRA.


If this is true, then I suppose that RBR and Ferrari leaving FOTA is a trick to strengthen their position rather than their actual intentions. But who knows what they really want to achieve.

Toro Rosso, who also have Ferrari engines and are owned by energy drink company Red Bull, did not attend a FOTA meeting in London last week and had no comment on their status within the organisation.

Sauber have a long and inglorious history of doing whatever Ferrari tell them to.
