If I understood right, there is no registration for drivers in ERC 2012, so anyone can take points since the first event, right?

Yes. Most of this year ERC drivers are thinking not to continue. Not only because no registration, but also due to style of communication from FIA when they were asking them for changing this decision.

if there´s no snow, the rallye is 100% asphalt, isn´t it?
Mirek

Yes, but You can't change class after the entry list is approved by FIA, so it would by very risky.

According to the regulations the "S2000 turbos" and the R4 cars are in the same class (2). Therefore he could enter the rally in the Mini and change to his Mitsubishi, if there is some snow.

I thought R4 was already at that class, because I remember very well that Vd Heuvel was in Class 2 at the Ypres Entry list.

R4 was in class 2 but S2000 1.6T not.

Ah yeah true.. But why is that the problem the difference of speed and power is way less in class 2 then in class 1. Or do I forget about something?

I didn't say it's a problem. Just mentioned it's new ;)
But anyway there will be a change of restrictor size...

mousti

Restrictor :)
PLuto
8th November 2011, 20:21
Actually there is still 30. But one manufacturer (still the same, who is only interested in it) is hardly pushing to change it. It looks that they will do it to 30,8...
mousti
8th November 2011, 21:20
Ford pushing it for getting to sell their car ? Just a slight improvement.
PLuto
8th November 2011, 22:14
You forgot to add smile into your message. Ford is interested only in WRC events, regional champs are not interesting for them. Ford and Citroen were hardly pushing to FIA not allow 1.6T cars with bigger restrictor in regional championships and start with developing R4T class.
mousti
8th November 2011, 22:33
I know they're only interested in WRC events, but because they have to find budget everywhere, they could find some here too and with restrictor change results could be better than before etc. :D Although Mini same situation, and they're indeed more interested to every potential customer in and outside the WRC. A slightly change like 0.8 is very good, I would like it :) .
R4T class is that the class that the Renault (Megane) RX4 will be placed? Or am I totally wrong here.
Mirek
9th November 2011, 09:59
So called R4T is something like R3T car with bigger restrictor and controlled 4x4 drivetrain. Rules shall be revealed in December.

I would prefer to see Rossetti with a good programme in a "normal" car. These GT cars are for me suitable for old people with a talent deficit.

Lotus Exige is first ever R-GT car so how can You know what it is capable of or to who it is suitable? This is no heavy overpowered machine but a car with same weight like S2000 cars, more power and mid-engine configuration (of course it's still production based but some potential is definitely there).

Ok, but it will only become relevant if some other strong drivers compete with cars in the same class. Rox is a driver capable of fighting at the front of IRC in the right car and I would prefer to see him competing somehwhere on equal terms. I feel the same about his last couple of years in ERC, it seems a waste of a good talent.
Mirek
5th December 2011, 19:41
It's quite simple. Will You pay him another car?
Anyway if You want some competition among R-GT, someone just has to be the first if You don't know some kind of magic which creates competition from nothing.

Yes, his pace and also the speed of the Polo S2000 are surprising. I think he didn't drove for a long time?
He was Historic champion of Austria in 2010 with a Porsche 911 RS.
In 2011 he also competed in Austria and some international rounds with this Porsche 911 RS.
However he likes the Jänner Rallye very much and did start in 2011 with a Subaru. I need to admit that he wasn't that fast last year.

CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas. In stead of racing fuel, this Evo drives on Natural Gas. It's probably a little bit slower than other Evo's, I'm not sure... Stohl drove a 207 S2000 on CNG also in the past.
Yes, Stohl's Mitsubishi runs on natural gas. Therefore he cannot score points in European Championship. And some other cars of Austrian drivers too.

Congrats to J.Kopecky, it is the best way to start the season!
Juho did not have luck this time, but the speed is there, so nothing to worry about his performance.
Most unfortunate person at the end(except those, who destroyed their cars on SS) is R.Baumschlager-he lost deserved first place in the Austrian championship yust for a lousy two tenths of a second!! Beppo Harrach will be obviously Raimund's nightmare also in this year! Still, very fast and brave driving (risking his good position) by young Austrian 2011 champion in the last stage! For me personly the man of this rally as he is strugling with non-competetive technology against far more superior S2000 cars and their drivers.
Some solide stage times by gentelman driver Mr.Solowow. Not to forget the fastest man in 2WD class-J.Černy, congratulations for a huge time margin which he made against the second in this class, the Italian trophy specialist Roberto Vescovi(must say, I doubt that Vescovi drove ever before under this conditions), who is not familiar to snow & ice.

Baumschlager had correct tyres.
Why questionaires? Rally is counted together, not every day separately. Yesterday both had same road conditions, today Harrach had much better because Baumschlager was starting third and there was new snow on almost all stages. Only Hänninen had the worst possible conditions both days and Pech second worst both days.

Maximum 12 studs per 10 cm of tyre surface.
Ahh, and is the allowed overhang the same as in WRC ?

No, these are short studs for use on asphalt basis.

I wonder whether Dresler may give Kopecky a new lease of life. Nothing against Stary, but sometimes a change of co-driver can be good for a driver (Neuville/Gilosoul for example). I know Juho had to sweep snow but this really was a Juho type rally and not a Jan type rally at all.
Even though some people criticised him at the time I thought Kopecky's performance on Cyprus last year was pretty good, especially with a brand new co-driver, setting some very competitive times against the likes of Mikkelsen and Hanninen.

Pavel is not completely new for Jan. They did almost all testing together last year. Of course it is not a real competition but they did together some 2000 km and that's enough to understand each other ;)
Good point about Pavel is that he is mechanical engineer in car technologies.

Ellegy_film: Just small point to mention. I know it is only small and not important, but please find somewhere ( Czech TV for example) some magazine from Jänner rally to hear the pronunciation of those czech names: Kopecký, Václav Pech, Valoušek etc. I expect you will be obliged to use it at least once (on Barum) this year :D

It's easier to ask PLuto in whatever ERC round. They both know each other.

I think that this onboard was uploaded later after the event so maybe You missed it like I did. Juho Hänninen from last stage which he won by 18+ seconds. Some downhill sections are completely crazy! Plus there is camera between seats :)
