In 1995, the championship had only 8 rounds, as compared to 2004/5/6/7 which all had 16.

That means that at the end of the championship in 1995, the other 4 seasons above had another half to go.

Colin McRae won in 1995, and Loeb won in those 4 years with 16 rounds. So if a driver other than Loeb had been leading at the halfway stage (Gronholm in 2007), then he would have been the WRC champion if the season had 8 events like in 1995.

Of course, it is impossible to predict what would have happend or who would have been champion if 1995/6 had more rallies, but Loeb has won the championship when it was at it longest in terms of events, something that cannot be said for Colin McRae. although the compestition was much stronger then.

An interesting thought though...Although Id rather have 16 event championships over 8 :)

Reality is you drive to the conditions. Most teams back then supplemented their programs with either ERC or APRC depending on the manufacturer's origins. Similar would have happened anyway I feel. We can't really speculate on what an 8 round calendar would have been like and who it would have favoured, as we don't know what the WRC would have favoured as their 8 favourite events to run.
