Saw this on some other news sites - cool news if not a little surprising.

Damian Cudlin To Substitute For Loris Capirossi At Motegi | MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks (http://motomatters.com/news/2011/09/28/damian_cudlin_to_substitute_for_loris_ca.html)

Hope he keeps it upright and maybe beat a wild-card or two!

I think the fact that Damien said "I don't know what I've done to deserve this." probably means it was fairly surprising to him too!
Good luck to him. He's a decent solid sort of rider and really has his work cut out for him making his MotoGP debut at an unfamiliar track on the most difficult bike to ride in the padock against the worlds best riders. Like I said, good luck!
