This penultimate round of IRC championship is coming up pretty soon, and untill now not so much information. I am looking for stagemaps or Google Earth file of the stages. Compared to 2009 when i visited the event, it looks like mileage of Craigvinean, Drummond Hill and Errochty have changed. There seem to be also some new stages. Does somebody have more info on this, because the maps i found on official website are very poor. ;)

Seems like entries close today and entrylist will be available on wednesday 21th of september. I think they might have a decent entrylist for the first time since they start this rally in IRC in 2009. Looking forward to this gravelevent with very nice stages.

Should be. Atkinson replaced P-G in Sanremo, but in Scotland I think they will be Andersson and McRae...

Almost 50% of the entries are S2000. That is good but still not good: where are the 40 or so locals? Still - very good for Scotland to have an entry full of interesting names. I hope Hänninen will show Mikkelsen who's the daddy.

Does anyone have a clue why Colin McRae stages and Rally Scotland are held separately just few weeks after each other?

Mirek
21st September 2011, 18:26
PLuto found the reason for me...

* The possession of Pace Notes (as defined in R25.9) by a Competitor during the course of the rally, whether they relate to this event or not, is forbidden.

* Pre‐event practising or testing over the Special Stages used on this event is forbidden (R5.1.4) and (R26.7).

But isn't there also a national rally during that weekend of Scotland Rally who applies to those rules. Wales Rally GB has the same thing during their event also a national event with some WRC's, Land Rover's, Metro's and for the last time Andy Burton :(

Loix has confirmed to not drive in Scotland not because of budget BFO had funds for extra rallies if the title can be gotten it seems because of Juho starting in Scotland Skoda has no extra car anymore..

Hopefully it will be another good event, much better entry and seems a great shame that Loix won't be there!! :( As wwbroe said the stages are really nice, and very fast. There has been a lot of heavy rain over the past couple of days and I just hope that there can be good enoguh repairs to the roads after the event yesterday, which also used Drummond Hill, Errochty and Craigvinean. It might be that some sections will be very rough indeed :( They have until Friday morning when the recce starts in those stages.

Here is a video, some parts will be used again next weekend and you can see how rough they are - but look at the weather!! :( McRae Stages Rally 2011 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHMjLSjtOLs)

I know, it's also the same weekend as the Cambrian, one day organisers will get round the table and stop these clashes. It does the sport no good. Saying that, IRC Rally Scotland will hopefully run early next year.

Well the stages used yesterday for the Colin McRea rally were really cut up ,and i cannot see the same stages used next week. The hairpins on both Drummond Hill and Craigvinean were really really bad after the consistant rain of yesterday. SO maybe they will have to use different parts of those two stages ,for the Rally of Scotland!

Won't be easy to change stages so early before the rally because of the government although with the roads in the forest could be another deal as we have here.

Who will you fight with?
“If I come, we must remember this. If I come, I think it will be a big battle with Andreas [Mikkelsen]. In the Azores this year, we had such a big fight with him, it was incredible. I think he will be the main person, but then there are other drivers who will be close as well – [Guy] Wilks will be difficult there as well. It will be a very big fight and a really tough battle, but a great place for the fight.”Q&A: Juho Hänninen (http://www.ircseries.com/html/ReadDynNews.asp?id=61) from IRC site. Shouldn't it be sure by now that he will do Scotland. That interview was released last Friday.

Hi All

I'm off to the Rally of Scotland this weekend, coming from Oxfordshire.

I was hoping to sleep in the car on the stages (As I've always done at Wales Rally GB) but it would appear that car parks don't open until a couple of hours before the stages go live?

Does anyone else have experience of this?

Thanks
Mike

J4MIE
5th October 2011, 18:24
Just a word from experience, if anyone is going to watch in Craigvinean and is parking at the hermitage, it is a grass field and I've seen it get very muddy when it rains, and seen people struggling to drive out of the deep mud! Bear this in mind if you are trying to rush to the next stage...

Mike, don't know about this year but have slept in the car at the stages before without a problem, it might be you have to find somewhere overnight and move to the car parks in the morning. Luckily due to the late start on Saturday I can make it home on Friday night, and my brother stays in Stirling so is convenient for Saturday night visit :D

I think the problem with the stages is that they are very soft, there has been a huge amount of rain this year (here in Fife it's been the wettest summer for nearly 100 years!!) and not really any long dry periods which you'd expect at some point in the summer. This.combined with last weekend's event is pretty unfortunate. Still, I imagine that Cyprus is far rougher...

We'll see I guess, I can't help but think that the Proton's reliability record keeps getting the way of having confidence in a good result. He knows the stages and conditions better than anyone, and even though he had a good result a few years ago, the poor entry and retirements helped a lot... I will be cheering him on though :D

I heard last night that there is a sprinkling of snow in the Loch Chon stage....

J4MIE, can you tell me who are the Scottish drivers and co-drivers as there aren't again no Scottish flags on the entry lists? Enjoy the rally.

For International events, competitors must display the flag of the country they have their International competition license from - and so drivers from Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland must use the UK flag - unless they have another country's competition license. For instane Tom Cave got his in Latvia so has to have a Latvian flag (don't know if this is still the case but he has in the past).

Scottish Competitors:

#09 Alister McRae
#11 David Bogie & Kevin Rae
#34 John MacCrone & Stuart Louden
#38 Ruary MacLeod & Keir Beaton
#30 Graeme Schoneville & Michael Hendry

In particular , Graeme Schoneville is great to watch - always trying hard, sideways everywhere, will be good to see if he can keep this up in a Civic Type R but I hope so :bounce: :bounce:

How about a Cetinkaya prediction game
Options are:
Stage when first 'off' occurs
Stage when last 'off' occurs
No of R2 cars that finish ahead of her if she makes it to the end.
I've watched her in a Fiesta R2 and the 207 S2000 -the Scottish conditions will be a real shock to her system!

If so she won't have met anything like this event promises to be, normally she sticks to tarmac (when not flying off it) or rock hard gravel (a la Turkey). Anyway my prediction is - first off SS2, Final off (on super rally) SS6

No mobile signal at Carron Valley.

Cars started at two-minute intervals and were slotted in for the next stage after approx 20 mins. Barrable went off on a muddy right hander about 2 miles from end of stage, very little damage so will restart, got pulled back onto the road and he drove out the stage. Fisher went wide and nearly joined him but got away with it. I think the problem with catching the slower cars was because it is a fast stage and not many places to pull over...

I walked approx 3 miles from start of stage, very very very fast, then it got muddier and more bends near the end. Kruuda trying very hard and looked fast, also PG, Wilks and Mikkelsen looked very good

Heading home now, will get a few pics up but they are not very good!

I was thinking about this the other day and I reckon they 'turn the engines up' a bit more for IRC and also the drivers have to push more in order to be competitive. At least the times Basso drove in Italy and PG here are definitely moving forward. Hope they can fix PGs car.

I haven't been able to celebrate any of my favourite drivers winning anything major since Mexico 2005 when Petter won. Since then Nick Heidfeld has had a torrid, winless time in F1, Petter has had a succession of poor cars and bad luck and Andreas has grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory many times the last couple of years. Tomorrow may finally be the day I can celebrate a result...it'll feel very odd I'm sure!

Best of luck to Andreas - he has shown he is undoubtedly the fastest gravel driver in the IRC, beating even Juho conviningly in equal machinery. Neuville and Breen also deserve mentions for their pace so far - three young talents who may have a large part to play in the WRC in the next decade or so.

Is anybody who has count ss wins in IRC for 2011?

I didn't find any proper stats, but I counted ss wins myself with help from eWRC-results:

Mikkelsen 27
Neuville 22
Kopecky 19
Loix 19
Hänninen 17
Wilks 8
Bouffier 7
+ few others

So Mikkelsen tops it, but on the other hand he has also started each event.

On Scotland, I was expecting such a performance by Mikkelsen and he would really deserve a win. I'm too puzzled by lack of performance from Hänninen. There must be something that keeps him leashed, other than just lack of confidence to traction. And Nikara humiliating Gardemeister, great!

As it looks now, so might be the case. If he could take 20 secs from Mikkelsen, that would help. But of course 2nd is better than 6th in the morning, but gaining it by others falling one by one, wise but not what I wanted to see.

About Juho i think that he is taking it easy.Points from Scotland are x 1,5.So he hasn t got to win, just to be ahead of the frontruners of championship.Till now he has managed this.

It's comfirmed now: SS8 cancelled. Too bad conditions.

I thought this could only be in the WRC and F1 for this reason...

Completely agree with Jordib.

Wim we don t know the conditions how bad they are.In an accident (touch wood) will the ambulance could go in time? If a crew was inside a car with injuries will the ambulance could drive through the mud?Or the rescue team ?

I am sure when this was a SS which was shown live on TV, the SS wasn't cancelled.

Ambulance has to get there in any conditions. My friend is ambulance driver and he never understand why all people want to excuse bad conditions with the possibility that ambulance cannot get there. They are trained to get everywhere in any conditions. There are no bad conditions, just wrong machinery.

He is trained to drive with an ambulance in 40cm mud? How fast he can go to a bleeding crew?
Be sure that in a uphill with 2wd and no mud tyres in ambulance, is not going to reach the ''target'' even in 2 hours.
You don t risk in safety at these conditions. Our sport doesn t deserve to be at tabloids at first page because it was obvious to cancel the rally,to preserve a disaster.

Then you have backup helicopter or rescue vehicle, remember, they are prepared to anything can happen at any time in their district.

Jamie, which bit of Carron Valley should I head for do you think? The East carpark or the West? :)

Definitely West, lots of bends to go to, very muddy though. It is £20 per car if you didn't know...

I was gutted to hear the last stage was cancelled, but I can understand why. The rain had been falling most of the afternoon, there was heavy thick fog and was already very rough.

helicopters crew are not trained to save a crew from a wrecked car 20 meters down the road while raining heavily.Rescue vehicles must reach the point. This is not easily in some conditions.Organizers haven t got pleasure to cancell the stage with no reason. It is not going to save them money,or to gain glory.
Plenty of moments that an ambulance couldn t reach the injured crew from spectators cars,or bad weather conditions.

Also remember that the rescue crews here are volunteers and pay for their own vehicles and equipment. Helicopter is not an option.

The other thing is that the stage is very fast with huge drops off the side. It is not a stage to be messed with.

I understand the reasons to cancel the stage but every time this happens in a rally due to 'bad conditions' i have the feeling of loosing the main spirit of rallying: the combination of competition and roughness. I don't remember too many stages cancelled due this reasons in the 80's and 90's but obviously the times are changing and also our sport does.

It's corrected now. Juho took 20s off from Andreas. Andreas is driving and acting totally professional, very calm.

Yeah cool. I think Andreas will need to get a bit of a move on for the afternoon, doesn't wantto drop another 20secs. Hope he can get the win but

Breens front grill was full of mud (probably some too big cuts), I wonder it was the problem for engine..overheating.

Strange that drivers who used SupeRally are still in the overall results (right colom), as example Robert Barrable. That wasn't the case in other IRC events this year and also not in this rally last year.

In IRC it has been always up to organizers whether thy use SupeRally or not. I think Rally Russia was one of those who had it in IRC past seasons.

This is the short of coverage WRC should have instead of he eternal Blah Blah from the radio people.

Mikkelsen should win if he doesn't do anything stupid or the car breaks down.

Hannine now climbs 2nd to the championship table and 1 gravel event to go :)
