Amazingly there doesn't appear to be a thread for this event yet.

Less than 2 weeks to the start, when will the entrylist be published?

Entries close today.
This year Sanremo is not part of Italian Championship (CIR) so I expect a weaker entrylist.

Does anyone have recommendations for what stages are best for spectating? I will be in italy for my honeymoon starting the same day as the rally and I negotiated 1.5 days at the rally.

Rumours: Andreucci and Rossetti won't be there. Perico (Peugeot 207) on the entry list.
Piero Longhi with Mini WRC (on Asphalt Trophy race which will run with separate classification from IRC).

For day 1 two classics point of view are: on p.s. 1 San Romolo junction and on ps. 2 in the village of Bajardo.

I wonder why? PG has shown an improvement although I doubt Atkinson would beat Basso either, especially on Sanremo.

I've read that also Elwis Chentre will start with Fabia R2 (as usual with Vieffecorse team): maybe his times can tell us more about car potential on italian roads!

I'd bet on Basso before Scandola. The former may be driving a Proton but the latter is sort of a human Proton. ;)

Scandola's pace with the Fiesta has been improving each event. He had already fast moments early in his career but now he's more reliable and if he retires it's not by accident but by mechanical failure. Like it's already happening again today.

stepunk
16th September 2011, 18:40
Entry list updated: added Karl Kruuda and his Skoda Fabia!

Hopefully Scandola's engine problem that has forced him to retire today in Rally San Martino (last round of Italian Championship) won't affect his partecipation in Sanremo!

Scandola + Fiesta is for sure faster combination than Basso + Proton. Reliability is a question of both :)

Very successful warming for Piero Longhi with his new car-Mini Works WRC. He won this weekend Rally dell Ossola. I'm very curious how will he perform against established TRA drivers like Re, Pedersoli, Cavallini, Michelini....I'm not afraid about his drivers skills, but I still doubt if the new Mini is on the same level as C4 WRC & Focus WRC.

Here also the list of TRA drivers. They will drive the same stages as IRC contenders, but not each run. It will be also interseting to compare their stage times against top IRC drivers.

Juho's non-participation confirmed: Skoda withdraws Juho Hanninen from Sanremo Rally - IRC news - AUTOSPORT.com (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94674)

I don't think this is to favour Kopecky like the article suggests - it just seems to me that the Skoda management have quite a clinical view of the championships and will only do what is necessary to bring home both titles and no more. With the bonus points on the last 2 rounds Juho still stands a good chance.

Mirek
19th September 2011, 17:13
In pre-seasons plans Juho wasn't supposed to do IRC at all (except Monte Carlo and Barum). IRC was meant to be a playground for Kopecký, SWRC for Hänninen. I think they added few rounds for Juho just as a safety measure when it didn't look that good with Kopecký's title chances.

Interesting that Magalhaes is slightly faster than Kopecky on the two first stages

Kopecky was slow here last year. I think a bit better this year but if he wants the title he will have to be quick here because it will be difficult for him to win on gravel.

Mirek

Kopecký always have worse first stages and first thing he needs is not to crash. Those who can challenge him for the title are not gravel driver as well...

Why? Liox was pretty hobbled by Mitsubishi in the WRC and I'd think his results these days highlight the fact. That or he's been getting better over the years. Either way I wouldn't say it's sad; quite the opposite, in fact.

He is in a tricky situation because Hankook fund his campaign however I think he could moan a little less and admit they need to "work on things" For example the Proton drivers never complain much despite the car is not on the level of the Skoda or Peugeot.

i just meant that his car is not on latest spec anyway, with latest engine and exhaust updates. so maybe it also had no new power steering, if there was any, witch i dont really know. if there is one and you can effort it, you probably are allowed to build it in...but i dont really know that as well.

what i wantet to say is that i dont think, that because scandola had that powerengine failure, the conclusion is that ford still not has a solution for the powersteeing problem. because his car is not on the latest evolution level as it could be anyway...
