This is much more than I expected. In last two years there werent so big interest in ERC (because of costs), so this year entry list is very positive for me.

Indeed almost every rally has like minimal 5 ERC registered drivers! And the coverage that Luca is delivering with Ellegy is also great for those teams then :) .

For me it's quite obvious and logical. If only 8 out of 12 rallies count for ERC standings, what rallies would you eliminate from your programme if you were a driver in a private team? The ones that are most expensive and far away. For drivers from Poland, Bulgaria or Italy it's over 5000 km and the most expensive rally in the calendar. For IRC drivers it's another story, because they are backed by manufacturers...

The golden years of rallying are long gone and I will never understand why FIA keeps 12 rallies in the ERC calendar. It's idiotic! This championship should have maximum 10 rounds or even less!

In my opinion it is a very bad entry list, especially as the organisers said they will rent some cars for very known foreign drivers. They said that Patrick Snijers with the Mini should come to their rally, but as always they are saying that some legends will come to their event and when we see the entry list, it isn't true...

I'm very happy that you've highlighted my preview and it's always good to get constructive criticism. I think i got all my facts right but apologise if i've made any errors. If you're from Madeira you'll know how difficult it is to predict results here and to be honest with you it's just a bit of fun. My predictions are very rarely completely right! For me this is a very difficult rally. Bruno M, Rosseti, Vitor Sá for me this is the top 3.

Tomorrow the real rally begins. It will be good .)

Yes, i'm from Madeira, have the local knowledge and I also know the foreigner drivers that entered rally vinho madeira...

I will tell your mistakes in this preview and also tell you what I think it's not correct to say concerning your predictions.

your 5th driver Vitor Sa, is at least 11 times local champion have a good car and as a local driver, he know all the stages really well so.. put him in your predictions behind Betti and Tlustak it's not correct in my point of view, but this is only my opinion... you can think Tlustak can be faster than Sa and Betti... but I don't think that can happen in normal conditions... I would say it's impossible. Tlustak will be for sure behind the local better Gr. N drivers... and probably behind Moura (from Azores).

Also to consider Rossetti as you big favourite... I think it's not correct, not because of the value of Rossetti as a driver... but mainly because of his car. As you know the Punto is clearly behind the 207 from Magalhaes. So, if Magalhaes know really well the stages, is a good driver and have also the better car... I think it's more normal to consider him as the main favorite for the win. And also because the vitory its the unique objective from Magalhaes for this rally... and for Rossetti the victory isnt the main goal... for sure if Rossetti loose some considerable time in the first 2 or 3 stages, he will only push enough to be in the front of ERC.

Well, but your predictions as you said... it could be only for fun... but when you started talking about Sa and said that last year he had a fight with Juho for the podium.. you were completely wrong... the driver who was during some stages in 3rd place, was Miguel Nunes, the current leader of Gr. N in the local championship this year.

Having the knowledge of the drivers and listening you saying that sa is your 5 drivers and last year had a fight for the podium... for me it's the same as joke... because it's totally wrong.

Enjoy the Island Colin, because it's really a beautifull Island... :)

PS2: if you use to come to the forum, and if you have some doubt about the drivers... make your questions... In my opinion we have a group of forum members that are able to clarify almost all of your doubts :) and for sure.. mos of us do it with pleasure :)

you should write more times in the forum.. you will see that.. as I wrote before, we have a really nice group of forum members that are always available to give some help if someone don't know something about a certain driver or rally.

That's what we like Colin! It's great to have a rally reporter of your level replying here! And admits that he isn't always spot on, many reporters won't admit that and say that what they're declaring is always right.

Btw very happy that Irally is still covering this event! It stays a great rally with or without IRC because of the history of this rally and offcourse the fight (I hope till the end) between Luca and Bruno!

It's rally, for God's sake! Rally drivers are there to drive as fast as possible. Crashes happen, that's normal. To stand on the road behind jump is not normal at all. That's arrogant stupidity. What if Felipe killed the moron? He would have the scene in front of his eyes for the rest of his life...

Agreeing 100 % with u Mirek! This is also what we want as a supporter full throttle on a Jump showing that you've balls! U think in Finland they braked before jumps. Real fast rally drivers are the ones who are going against the limit and that's what it takes to be the best! Not the ones who brake for a jump of like in Ypres on the straight where u have some of those little turns in it, the best drivers don't brake the rest brake and looses seconds because they don't want to risk anything.

Unfortunately on the last stages Oleksowicz significantly slowed down. He dropped down from 6th (after SS5) to 8th (after SS11). I don't know if something is wrong with the car or the driver.


OK, I know now what happened. Oleksowicz explained in his press release, that he decided to take the risk and try softer tyres on the third loop. It turned out to be a bad choice. But anyway he says he loves the atmosphere of the rally. There are so many spectators that it looks like the whole island is celebrating this rally! :)
