Untill 1999 the bodywork of super touring cars had to be identical in shape to the road cars. (except wings/splitters)

What bodypanels were allowed to be modified at the start of the 1999 season?

Of all the manufacturer-backed teams in BTCC history, which manufacturer has had the shortest entry span?

BDunnell
7th December 2006, 23:00
Interesting one. I suppose Peugeot's one-year re-entry in 2001 must count, unless you think that its previous years as a works team should be added on.

AndySpeed
7th December 2006, 23:20
I mean the total number of years that a works manufacturer has competed in the series. So Peugeot doesn't count in this instance because of its involvement in 1998 and previously.

The BBC, as usual. It was shown the day after the race, with commentary from the wonderful Brian Jones (then the main BTCC circuit commentator) and Jonathan Palmer.

Interesting, the highlights in Australia shown during the 1993 season featured commentary at most rounds from Steve Slater (who narrated the 1997 BTCC review video), the Donnington GP round though was commentated by Brian Kreisky (of Videovison fame), no Murray in sight.

Ok, I'm behind on this thread. But anways, didn't the wheel arch rule change come up after it was discovered or revealed that BMW had been widening their wheel arches for years? Combined with the pit stop/tire change requirement, TOCA then allowed wheel arches to be widened?

Correct..

1986 was the last year that BMW did not win a National Touring Car Championship!

If you include the ETCC. BMW have won a major Touring Car Championship every year since 1975

Whilst not the 'Australian Touring Car Championship' itself, BMW did win the 1986 Australian Endurance Championship, run to exactly the same rules as the ATCC (ie... Group A), with Jim Richards in the JPS BMW.

Was that a one-off race, or a series of races?

racer69
13th February 2007, 19:09
The 1986 Australian Endurance Championship consisted of 6 rounds, held after the completion of the 10-round 1986 ATCC.

The 1986 Australian Endurance Championship calendar was;

Round 1 - Amaroo Park 300km
Round 2 - Surfers Paradise 300km
Round 3 - Castrol 500 (Sandown)
Round 4 - James Hardie 1000 (Bathurst)
Round 5 - Calder Park 300km
Round 6 - Oran Park 250km

I'll have to do some checking, but from memory a BMW won the 1986 New Zealand Touring Car Championship as well.

Dave Pinkney ran a RS500 #18 run by Terry Drury Racing, then changed to be run by David Bartrum now of Motorbase!

James Kaye raced the Demon Tweeks BMW in the first round finishing fifth in class B after a spin.

Mike Jordan entered class C with a Peugeot 309 GTi only doing 6 meetings, the first 4 then the GP and Birmingham events.

Matt Neal is not in any of the information I have on 1989!
