Q1 SUPERBIKE 1000

Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) put in a superhuman effort on his last flying lap around Monza to take the provisional pole slot away from Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team) at the end of Q1 with a time of 1 minute 42.934 seconds. The gap between the two was just 0.019 seconds in favour of Haslam, but Biaggi was able to set a a new record top speed of 332.5 km/h down the long Monza straights.
Third fastest time went to Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team) who got the better of an impressive Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team), the 2010 Superstock 1000 champion entirely in tune with the Monza track. Jonathan Rea followed up his morning form with fifth slot for Castrol Honda, while Noriyuki Haga did a good job for the PATA Racing Team Aprilia to get in front of Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team).

Race 1 was ok. Eugene Laverty rode a great race, fast but most importantly - no mistakes. Biaggi was equally fast but had a 4-5 lap segment during the race where he seemed to make a mistake every lap and it dropped him off the lead. It did make the race more interesting though. And there was really nothing to separate Haslam and Melandri who were just that little bit slower than the top 2. I was really disappointed with the Kawasakis, thought they had a fast motor a would run stronger but not so. Poor ol' Chris Vermeulen can't take a trick, crashed in Friday practice and gashed his arm so bad he couldn't race. At least he said his knee is ok!

Chaz Davies, the drought is well and truly broken! A masterful display. He and Scassa are making perfect use of an excellent Yamaha motorcycle. Foret turned back the clock a bit with a solid ride to third and the battle for fourth was quite entertaining, Parkes looked as though he knew it was the best he could achieve and Sam Lowes performance whilst injured was superb. Nasty crash for Gino Rea though he at least seemed to walk away alright and the last corner crash involving Ivanov was a shame.

Superstock 1000 was carnage! Was disappointed for Staring, he was looking strong before his crash and the BMW engine blowup was catastrophic. Hope there are no bad injuries out of it all.

Biaggi drive-through penalty.

According to Crashnet, the reason for the penalty after running off at the chicane was due to him having crossed a white line positioned to prevent riders from re-joining the race at that particular location.

Awesome day's racing as ever from Monza! :)

Great performance by Chaz to win the Supersport, and also pleased for Sam Lowes to finish whilst still in pain but smiling as ever. (He has a twin brother as well, currently leading the Evo class in British Superbikes. Scarily alike!) Likewise Tamburini put a good race together, he's had no luck so far (a bit like Gino Rea).

As for the Superbikes: I've just about stopped bouncing around the room about Eugene's wins. Mega-chuffed for him and they were both perfectly rode in different types of race. Amazing.
