View Full Version : BTCC Live Timing on Smartphone (i.e. iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc)

Hey all,

During Free Practise and Qualifying for the first round of BTCC at Brands, I found myself switching between the TSL Live timing webpage and Twitter for updates on what is going on. I swiftly came to the conclusion that a better solution was required.

As such, I created a webpage thats optimised for use with the iPad (my weapon of choice) and iPhone which contains live timing, twitter feed, latest BTCC related photo from Flickr, event timetable and track map. The app also works well on android and Blackberry phones, as well as on regular desktop PC's.

From the main page you get a choice of 3 layouts for your device, and can also stream the two previous episodes of the BTCC related radio show TinTopTuesday.

The TSL Live Timing auto updates every 30 seconds and as does the BTCC twitter feed, which opens with the most recent 20 feeds from BTCC drivers, teams, etc.

I hope this post does not get removed. I am not trying to make money from this webpage, I am just sharing something that I feel will add to a lot of people's enjoyment of BTCC. It certainly adds to mine.

Are you able to zoom out using the "pinch to zoom" method? If not, let me know and I will address it.

The web pages have all been designed around the iPad, as its the only device I have immediate access to. Therefore if accessed on a device with a smaller screen, the user will need to zoom out.

Yes but if it refreshes it will zoom back in again. So it's fine for iPad but no better than anything else for iPhone.

Nice one mate! Handy little web app! Just one small problem, cant scroll through the twitter feed... (Android - HTC Legend)
Other than that, I'll be using it while I'm at Oulton!

OK, so I have applied a few more updates to the web app and now it should be a lot more pleasing on the eye then both the previous incarnation and also the official TSL timing page (which isn't scaled for use on mobile devices like my app http://www.btcc.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif).

Also, coloured text now indicates fast/slow laps (carried across from TSL source). I was struggling to get this to work but now it seems pretty solid.

Hopefully no bugs have found their way in, as I won't be at my computer during the next round at Oulton Park (I will be under canvas at the track) and so bugs can't really be fixed.

The Twitter feed is still problematic for Android users, both in terms of scrolling and sometimes not being there, but I am looking into this.

Let me know what you think and any ideas you have for improving the service.

P.S. Anyone who saved shortcuts on their homescreens to the previous version of the web app may find that these direct you to the Pitlane Industries homepage.
