Subaru: Toshi Arai; Fumio Nutahara
Citroën: Harry Hunt

Possibilities:
Skoda: Jan Kopecký; Juho Hänninen
Peugeot: Guy Wilks; Bryan Bouffier; Stefano Capelli
Ford: Bernardo Sousa

Out of plans:
Skoda: Toni Gardemeister; Freddy Loix; Karl Kruuda
Peugeot: Thierry Neuville

Wow that's really bad :s

Let's wait and see.
I hope that the officials Skodas will come here because, they have failed to beat Peugeot in the Azores in the last two years.
I believe that Guy Wilks will also be present but I have questions regarding from Bryan Bouffier.
Toni Gardemeister never came to the Azores, but I believe he could get a good result here because it's a gravel rally but, Rally Azores was not on is program.

Hanninen, Bouffier and Wilks in a 3-way fight (Bouffier and Wilks were both quicker than anyone except FF at Ypres and Mikkelsen's fastest times were posted when Fred and Bouffier were in cruise mode and Wilks was having difficulties)

Mirek

Yeah, I wouldn't count Magalhães off, he was faster than anyone else last year in the first stages before having some kind of problem, I think it was oil on the windshield, and therefore lost the lead, however we know how it ended for Kopecky so he still got the trophy.

Could be foggy of Saturday stages (the long ones), which will mess a lot of bills at the end.

You are forgetting this one is gravel...

And I have to say I forgot Magalhaes! He should be able to fight for 3rd too I guess. When we are making tips we can never take punctures/accidents/mechanical problems into consideration but if we are talking about speed I still think Hanninen and Mikkelsen will be ahead here.

As Kopecky himself pointed out he hasn't driven on gravel since Azores last year.

No I factored that in, Wilks and Bouffier are experienced on gravel (though Bouffier claims he isn't despite all the testing he does) and the performance differential between Skoda and Peugeot is narrower on gravel than tarmac. After all, Hanninen has been beaten by a Fiesta on gravel this year in WRC. Mikkelsen and Kopecky to be fighting with Sandell and BM for the next four with Maurin being last if all 8 S2000 cars finish.
My top 8. Bouffier, Hanninen , Wilks, Sandell, Mikkelsen, Magalhaes, Kopecky, Maurin.
However, I would not be surprised if only 50% are running at the finish

mousti
12th July 2011, 16:44
I don't know really about the gap between Skoda and Peugeot on Gravel on top level because SWRC drivers are not fond of the 207. So I can only say the gap has been closen for sure on tarmac. But Hanninen got so well on Tarmac they have a solution for that Skoda and because I don't know if the Peugeot is as good as the Fiesta on Gravel. Then I say ...

1. Hanninen, Bouffier, Magalhaes, Kopecky, Sandell, Mikkelsen, Wilks, Maurin but probably there will be a local driver in top 8 because I don't see them finish all..

I actually think the opposite!

Peugeot and Skoda have been very close on the tarmac events this year, but last year on gravel the Skoda was dominant everywhere (they should have won Azores too without Hanninens puncture or Kopecky's crash)

However this will be the first IRC gravel event of the year so we have yet to see how the latest spec Skoda faces up to the Pug. Afterall Peugeot really seemed to make a step on asphalt this year...

Wilks isn't doing great either... maybe the Skoda isn't so bad on gravel (just that the Ford is really good now)

I am quite impressed with Kopecky's performance having not driven on gravel for one year.

That's what I already said here, there aren't Peugeot's on the SWRC so we don't have any reference if they're faster than the Skoda also on Gravel. Sandell screwed himself he lost too less time on SS2 and now must start as first car tomorrow and Wilks as sixth what's not bad.

Magalhaes showed good pace, and Sandell has also good pace he dropped 10 seconds on SS2 so would be almost fastest so no scratch and got himself now as sweeper tomorrow!

By the comments he has a good confidence.

it would be really kind of crazy if hänninen would win both championchips, especially while not driving all irc rallyes and in a championchip witch is 70% on tarmac. this should really make him more and more interesting for a manufacturer, very fast, reliable and as it seems pretty good on tarmac, especially for a finn!

Bouffier is now second in championship but he could never impress in Açores and is only taking fourth because other drivers didn't make it to finish, but i guess that is rally. Up to Barum now, where we will see a real big fight for victory, at least that is what i am expecting. ;)

The tabacco law applied in the Azores does not allow to be an international event. Only in the remaining races of the Azorean championship is permitted tobacco advertising.

Couple of positive things from this rally:

- No punctures for the top crews
- Good performance by Kopecky, especially considering power steering problems and having not driven on gravel for one year

Still no win for Andreas Mikkelsen, but good to see him get on the podium for Skoda UK. He is learning all the time... The good thing is he is pretty fast on both surfaces now but he is a lot younger than guys like Hanninen, Kopecky, Wilks, Bouffier...
