very handy list, thanks.

Have these been checked for 2007 compatibility? I'm taking my scanner to Rockingham.

The Chilton and Giovanardi frequencies are crossed over on the above 2 lists. Which are the correct frequencies?

Jim Hampton
21st April 2007, 12:54
For 2007, the simple answer is we don't know yet and they somes swap round.......

VX Racing tend to stick to 159.250 (usually their no 1 driver), 159.5875 (usually no 2 driver) and 163.750 (usually no 3 driver when they run one). But Chilton used 159.250 at Thruxton in 2006, Giovanardi used 159.250 come the Silverstone round (and vice versa with 159.5875). If you'd added all 3 VX Racing frequencies to your scanner I'm sure you'll soon figure out who's using what.

To give an example, I have logs that say John Cleland used 159.250 and Yvan Muller on 159.5875 back in the late 1990's !!

Bear in mind that the frequency-driver allocations do change occassionally and there's no guarantee that this list will be 100%.....but a good place to start from. Smaller/new teams frequencies are much harder to track and therefore predict.

Jim.

Pinkney is using Stockton's car so might use his frequency instead:
59 Richard MARSH 159.6250 (462C, 252P)

If Menu runs in a 3rd Vauxhall, try:
163.750 (311C, 664P)

You mean Pinkney has switched to Marsh's car as I don't believe the team have switched over to a Lexus :p :

Is this all legal?!!

Listening in on a team-driver radio communication thingy with one of those big skyscrapper of a radio-job??

I am positive if you listened in on an ambulance or a fire service emergency communication you would get banged up for it! ......maybe it an't that bad after all!

Scaners are perfectly legal, although they aren't skyscraper size these days! What your thinking of is broadcasting on an emergency frequency which is very muc illegal. The scanners don't broadcast anything they only recieve signals, a bit like a very powerful radio you'd listen to music on.

For an example here's mine;

http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=SC230&filter=Sport

Although mine is the European version so doesn't feature NASCAR!

Can you buy them in the UK High Street? I have searche Argos, Halfords, Dixons and Curries and couldn't find them when I searched for them.

They can be pretty pricey. From about £100 for the cheapest I believe from those I have seen. But it is worth it to be able to have a nose into how Turks or Flash are doing.

Marc W
4th October 2007, 13:46
One of the best places to get hold of them is Ebay, (as long as you are careful about who you buy them off) there are lots to choose from. You can also usually find them at specialist electrical shops like Maplin. Decent ones start from about £60, but as with most things you get what you pay for! Mine was £90 and it has an excellent range. At the Silverstone 24 hours I was still listening to the transmissions back at my hotel several miles away! As I write race reports I find it extremely useful but whether it's worth it for you would depend on how much you want to hear the communications during the race. Listening to the Top Gear team at the Silverstone 24 hours was extremely entertaining though! :D

>You mean Pinkney has switched to Marsh's car
Doh !!! of course, Marsh's car....

Menu now confirmed in the 3rd Vectra.

If SEAT rollout a 3rd car, try:
462.3625 (712C) or maybe 456.3875 but beware the security guards as they tend to use the same frequencies as SEAT which can be quite annoying !!!

Oh yes, no swearing! Plato said something after Turner hit him, nothing rude though. In the second race he was complaining of understeer, and on the grid of the second race he noticed Turner's diesel was smoking and asked "you got a BBQ going on in there, mate?" :D

In qualifying he was talking to his engineer, and before the start of the first race his engineer was talking about scrubbed tyres and how they should perform well.
