View Full Version : Excited about this year?

I can't be the only one whose seriously excited about the prospect of the year to come? It's shaping up to be one of the all time great BTCC seasons. Short of a couple of top line drivers perhaps, but there's so much going on this year!

Motorbase running Fords for example, far more interesting than the BMWs they replaced and great to see those cars in a team that is Chilton-centric. It will be VERY interesting to see how the Arena v Motorbase battle goes! I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see the Crayola coloured cars ahead for the first half of the season.

Then there's the fact that everyone of the top teams has a solid two car driver line-up in place. Yes they might not all be "great drivers" but how many seasons has it been since we've had 8 leading multi-car teams confirmed at this point!

Add to that the introduction of NGTC, firstly in the engines in almost all the cars. This certainly seems to have made some cars much more viable options than they were previously (SEAT Leon and Vauxhall Vectra spring to mind).

And then on top of that the 4, which will become 5, full NGTC spec cars on the grid, bringing along with them three manufacturers who haven't been represented in the series for a long long time. The Toyotas look mega, go and look at an ordinary road Avensis and its pretty dull, but the NGTC version is brilliant, in a sort of DTM-lite fashion without being over the top. Add to that the stunning renders of those RWD Audis....

Also missing this year seems to be the last minute scramble of years gone by. Yes there's still a lot to be announced and quite a few deals to be sealed, but in terms of front runners there's only possible seats at Arena and WSR and formal confirmation of Techspeed (the icing on the cake IMO) that isn't set.

This is looking like its going to be a year to remember! :)

Yeah you couldn't be more right, i've not looked forward to a season this much for years. The highlights for me are going to be Airwaves Ford v Team AON, 10 manufacturers represented!, such a huge grid, the blooding of the NGTC cars, Paul O'Neill possibly in with a genuine title chance and several exciting new drivers - Wrathall and Newsham in paticular.

I can't wait! The sheer diversity and (hopefully) size of the grid should be fantastic. Okay I would love to see the likes of Steven Kane and Adam Jones in drives but there are plenty of good drivers in the field already and it's great to see the likes of Frank Wrathall and Dave Newsham make the step up. Paul O'Neill in a Chevrolet Cruze should be something to see, just hope he and the team can get to grips with the car quickly. I want to see how much of a step forward Shaun Hollamby has made with his Golf. I want to see how the NGTC cars stack up against the NGTC engined S2000 cars and the full S2000 cars (and Lea Wood's BTC Integra). I want to Media Day to come soon so I can spend half the day on the computer at work just reading the news, looking at the liveries and watching the test times.

The season just can't come soon enough! :D

The season looks very promising... this will be maybe the most interesting racing series this year...

I cant wait for media day and round 1 at Brands. Each year that has gone by there has always been a couple of new teams take part or drop out in time for the new season with very slight differences in drivers taking part. This year though i wont know where to look first, i wont recognise half the field. Seriously cant wait to see all the new machinery. Can only be a good thing for the championship!!

2009 was brilliant. 2010 was just as Brilliant despite the absence of Gio and Turks. This Year? Massive grids, even more variety than previous years, lots of new talents along with some likeable if likely slower new drivers and all the rest..I can't wait. I am also anticipating a better range of liviries this year, I got bored of white cars in 2010. This year will set the tone I think for a very healthy few years of BTCC to come.

I still have my doubts about elements of the quality of the driver line-up, but must admit that the potential size of the 2011 grid is really quite outstanding, and proves that TOCA have done much that is right to further the cause of the championship. I must say, I missed many of last season's races due to other commitments, but have caught up with most of them now, and was very encouraged by the obvious crowd size at the Brands finale in particular. If that momentum can be carried through to 2011, then splendid. So, yes, I am looking forward to it.

Good to see I'm not the only one with that then!

Can't wait though, especially seeing as its the start of a new chapter for my favourite racing series with the NGTC cars coming in. Plently of cars, definately enough reasonable drivers and should be interesting to watch :)

Going Silverstone next week then onto Brands a few weeks later.

The car mix - yes
The drivers - not so much. Glad there's a few old names there but many I just can't get excited about.

As long as the racing is good im not to worried about the lack of big names, we have a new generation of touring car drivers coming into the BTCC :)

Saying that though, i wish Turks and Gio was taking part!!

10-15 GOOD drivers and not just 'old names' good drivers from other championships.....too many rich enthusiastic club drivers...
