The live TV stage was not bumpy from what I could see. But I agree that Neuville looked driving a bit over limit, I noticed his big moment also. I liked the finish camera, very nice driving of some drivers there!

thierryneuville (http://twitter.com/thierryneuville) Will continue to push lifting the throttle will resulting in losing too much time also he'll only use one spare now.

Again scratch for Neuville! Squeeling tires though! Lost the brakes sometimes! I hope the car holds it :(

68km, 3 stages left. And two of them on tv! Should be a good watch :)

Neuville wins again the stage 0.3 seconds he wins not much ! But Kopecky will not drive over the limit next and last loop according to his interview.

Bengue out of national rally?

Micheli with the Focus WRC is a pure gentlemen driver :o he's 2.44 slower than the first Peugeot 207rc in overall standings after 5 SS :o

RS
14th May 2011, 15:15
I guess Mikkelsen should get back ahead of Magalhaes before the end.

I don't think Kopecky will push extra for the win on pure speed, but he and Neuville will still have to drive very fast. Anything could happen still

Sandell was not much slower on WRC Sweden than he is here.... work to do.

Mirek
14th May 2011, 15:18
I think that it's virtually impossible for Kopecký to catch Neuville even if he risks everything. It's in Thierry's hands now.

I'm a bit confused about one thing-is Arai such a bad tarmac driver or are this R4 parts on Impreza ordinary crap??? Yust look closer on his stage times....he has even troubles keeping with P.A.Guglielmi in a Clio R3.
At the top ranking I'm very very happy for young Neuville and P207 to give a lesson to Fabia drivers.....many of you have already written off Peugeot in a comparison to Fabia.

Not in SS13 !!! :p : Both Maurin and Magalhaes were faster than Mikkelsen ;)

I'm pleased. Even as a Skoda fan.. it will make the championship more exciting. I guess Neuville will be fighting at the front in Ypres too and on gravel events Mikkelsen should come to the fore. I couldn't pick a champion right now!

The Impreza is only half finished with some more parts to come yet. I guess it will do better on gravel events. Arai seems to be about 3s/km off the pace, probably at least half of that is the driver.

mousti
14th May 2011, 18:34
Why such bad time for Mikkelsen? On some rallies a Clio R3 is faster Princen mostly beat N4's with his Clio. Arai his times are slow though coz he loses from Gonon in a N12.

Engine problem for Toni? It sounds ok on the onboards apart from early shifting.

I wonder if it is stuck in a road section map or something?

Superb coverage from Eurosport as usual , plus almost perfect WRC coverage from ESPN = rallying is becoming really interesting :) WRC is now interesting , IRC is interesting as always ... Is it becoming reality ? :)

What can I say then congratulations to Neuville ! :)

Just one thing to add ... it's sad that they mentioned Henri Toivonen a lot of times and Attilio Betegga not once :(

Proud to be a Belgian! :D

Congtratulation to Belgium with two teams on the podium !

Sorry for Mikkelsen for missing out on the podium on a pucture, and 5th with 1,9 sec.

But a splendid exiting rally it was !

What a final stage...

Bryan Bouffier and Pierre Campana fought with each other and both made a mistake. Bouffier's car lying in the wood didn't look good at all, it's good they are ok (but since the start I saw him driving like mad, a lot of crazy hi-speed sliding already before crash). Andreas Mikkelsen needed just a few kilometers more to catch also Bruno Magalhaes. It was also interesting that Toshi Arai and Harry Hunt finished with burning brakes.

Anyway, congratulations to Thierry Neuville for superb performance!

Absolutely true , one of the last corners of his onboard was a very big understeer , it was clear he was at 101%

Exactly what I thought about Bouffier: Flamboyant style but on the edge for 3 days. Great fun to watch.

Neuville and Mikkelsen are on their way to the top of rallying.

See you in Ypres. I'll be there on Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately it looks like I have to cancel Ypres this year. We'll see...

My quick appraisal of the top finishers:

Neuville: Almost perfect drive. Put himself straight into the mix as a title contendor!

Kopecky: Good drive, but needs to find the "extra" that he can deliver sometimes more often!

Loix: Solid, but lacking the bite of his performances last year. Competition a bit tougher this year?

Campana: Really nice drive, even considering home advantage. Hopefully he'll get some more S2000 drives this year.

Magalhaes: Good result in the end, hopefully give him some confidence back.

Mikkelsen: Puncture spoiled an otherwise strong performance mixing it with Loix and Kopecky early on. Winning final stage was almost unnoticed amongst the other dramas!

Maurin: Maurin's result says to me that Ford have made a clear step with the Fiesta. Looking forward to seeing what Scandola (or others?) can do with it? M-Sport might be wise to send Hirvonen to Ypres if he really wants to learn how to drive on asphalt instead of poncing around with that touring car driver every year.

Gardemeister: Pretty much what I expected after Monte and Canarias. Tyres probably not on the level of Michelin but they pay the bills. Also think he needs to push harder....

Sandell: +8m28.8s. Patrik obviously found Corsica particularly hard, he is not THAT bad on asphalt.

Thierry Neuville is an excelent winner, and he fully deserved the victory. Even Freddy Loix was really happy with the (Belgium) win. And it brought a lot of excitement to the IRC championship.
Loix 45 points
Kopecky/Neuvile 40
Hanninen 33
Bouffier 31
Wilks 25
Mikkelsen 16
