Is the new truck pulling an icebox so with the help of a regression hypnotherapist, the ford team can make Hirvonen think he is driving in Sweden ?

or does the container have ice baths for the crews ?

No, only the beginning of the stage (uphill section) is on tarmac, just like last year. The rest is gravel. :)

"The Ford team will unveil a new two-floor team headquarters. The ground floor contains a large open area for guests, a kitchen and toilets. The first floor has four meeting rooms, a physiotherapists' room, two offices for engineering staff and a centre area for team personnel. The HQ has 14 TV screens across all areas, showing stage times, maps and promotional information. It will take a team of 24 staff four days to erect the facility and two days to take it down again."

Ford offered Neuville a test (for a client sales probarly), but he had to refuse it, because Peugeot Belgium/Peugeot Sport did not like their protege to test a non Peugeot/Citroen car.

It's quite impossible say something about speed from that kind of clip(I don't know who's driving). We'll see that speed online next thursday...

I heard rumours that Joonas speed was impressive at his first time in SWRC, and if that rumours is even close to truth, he is going to be fast... Not "fast" or "kind of fast"... I mean FAST...

Francis44

Ogier might challenge both Latvala and Mikko like they have never been challenged in this rally.

If you look back at Ogier this season, it's almost mindblowing..... Faster than Loeb in Sweden, leading in Mexico before crashing, win in Portugal, win in Jordan, not so good in Sardinia, victory in it's hands in Argentina before blowing it, win in Greece. Ofcourse in rally you need to finish but if he managed to keep it together in Mexico and Argentina he might would have been well in the lead of the championship. And I think if he wins in Finland he might just be set to win the title.

Pretty incredible.

On one hand, shame to see that F1-like stuff is coming to rally, but then again I understand it, in modern-day's market-orientated world you have to please your sponsors and attract new ones when at the same time providing quality services for all executive guests, VIPs, etc. I'm sure it's a BIT easier to lure new financial funders and make new contacts in there than in some crappy tent under heavy rain with only dry biscuits to serve.

As long as it doesn't affect their performance, then hell, bring a skyscraper if needed...

Can You give a short summary of what he said?

Miika
26th July 2011, 18:54
About the rally, he said he didn“t really believe that VW would choose him for this test event, since there were "whole bunch of others waiting in line". And he says that the result of this rally has a big impact on what the future will look like for him, but then again the bosses from VW have underlined that he has to bring the car to the finish. And they also want him to progress during the rally, the stage times have to improve as the event goes on. But they don“t expect him to beat Hänninen or Tänak, so no such pressures on him.

Interesting to look at the Pickems. Generally people seem to rate Ketomaa much lower than Rantanen. I'm expecting Ketomaa to fight for the podium. Even for the win if some top guys hit trouble. In my opinion there is no question that Ketomaa is faster than Rantanen with equal machinery. He is also the only top driver in WRC who knows the friday stages like his pockets.

Me too! Yes, he is faster and also Fiesta is better than Mini. Rantanen knows also the friday stages and his knowledge is better than Ketomaa“s, because he lives in Lammi region. It is time to beat top five drivers, but top three or close to podium is also enough to secure his future...

Rantanen has used his chances to show at NORF brilliantly last years. If only there would have been more teams, he surely was under consideration. Ketomaa is pure fire. Tell's something about his attitude ( or sense of humour ;) ) when he said couple of years ago with that old Subaru that he aims for podium and anything below that is a disappointment :D

I personally think that Ketomaa is the best we have to offer for work teams  He is crazyfast !!!

I really don't know what to expect from Ketomaa. I know he is fast in Finland, but is he fast enough to challenge the Citroens? I don't know why, but I feel like he isn't (but I hope I'm wrong!)
Rantanen is fast in Finland too, he was pretty fast with the Focus last years, but now he drives a Mini so it's not easy to say how fast he will be.

What about s2000 competitors? I d like to listen some predictions from our Fin mates.

I'm expecting a tough battle between Hänninen and Tänak. Lindroos most likely to take it pretty easy because of the "must get to the finish" orders. I'm expecting Brynildsen and Kruuda to provide "small surprises" when the rally progresses. Nothing big though.

From three to five S2000s ending up upside down in Finnish forests.

vkangas
26th July 2011, 22:21
Lindroos is fast and has fresh experience of these roads but after hearing too many times from different sources that he "must finish the rally" I'll thing he's going to take it quite easy in the beginning. My money on Hänninen, he seems to have "Loeb-like" speed reserve always available when needed which is a sign of a world class driver.

Juha Salo could provide a surprise with his Evo R4. There's not many guys in the world who match his speed with Evo. In Rally Estonia's fast roads we saw that Ketomaa was able to match Prokop's s2000 times with his R4 for the short amount of time it held together.

I don't think Ford will let Ketomaa fight for a podium place, instead the Ford's are in the first 2 places. I hope so though. About Rantanen, I don't think his car is good enough to fight for top 6.

For WRC, I think it's so hard to predict. Ogier or JML to win, but Mikko, Loeb, Solberg all in the fight. Ketomaa is fast, but he has to finish the rally!

What about Andreas?

LOL, I forgot him totally. Clearly when talking about the rally for 3+ hours nonstop, I tend to forget some things. If he has received same orders as Lindroos, he'll be most probably take it easy. Should be somewhere around 2nd-4th in SWRC.

So who is going to be faster,Hanninen or Tanak?

Hänninen for sure, but I don't know have they fully sorted out EVO2's "problems" on gravel. If not, then Tänak might win SWRC. Watching Tänak's test footage, he's definately not lacking any attacking. But I'll believe Juho will show how it's done.

Yeah I have to agree about Ogier, win it or bin it attitude.

Interesting to look at the Pickems. Generally people seem to rate Ketomaa much lower than Rantanen. I'm expecting Ketomaa to fight for the podium.

I sure as hell expect Ketomaa to record some top 3 stage times, even fastest times, in this rally. He has to make some kind of mark in this rally and that can only happen by humiliating the factory duo in some stages - even if the rally end upside down in the woods. If Rantanen gets top 3 times that would be totally bonkers, even if he knew friday“s stages better.

Meeke/Sordo might challenge the customer Fords(?), Ketomaa for example looked and sounded dissapointedly mild compared to the factory duo Latvala-Hirvonen. So a customer car is again just a customer car (hopefully I“m wrong). And about the Citroens, they looked so well-balanced over the jumps, not a sign of the nose or the rear getting away in the jumps (compared to the Fords and Minis). Even the formula one champion looked like a jumping king after a few practise rounds.

It's hard to judge from just the looks, but after careful first runs works Minis picked up a spectacular style, jumping long but not landing exactly balanced. I catched Rantanen only twice, he's usual style, and even Therman and Oliveira looked somewhat spectacular "on air".

At Ruuhimäki jumps, I'd say records goes to Meeke, Ogier and Räikkönen.

I'm at SS1 Lankamaa, the famous barnbend. Lots of people. First row was said to be crowded before noon. First car after 17.15. I can hear my skin burning...

I noticed Ketomaa's times in shakedown were quite poor but I am expecting some better performances in the rally when local knowledge should help more...

But if you are right then maybe we should take comments from the likes of Henning Solberg, Ostberg e.t.c. more seriously. I mean, what is the point in even turning up if they are going to be given a sub standard car, it only damages the reputation of the paying customer. Why do Ford do this? To protect their factory guys?

Maybe this won't change until the manufacturer points scoring rules change.

HIRVONEN M. / LEHTINEN J. Damaged LR side "We went into one left in one hundred and engine died. I hit the tree."

thats why we need rally.cz results and not those useless wrc.com ones...

Nice time for Sordo! Go Mini!

Strange that Hirvonen never makes mistake, allways technical problems causing offs (last year "steering jammed", now "engine just died")
