Short term forecast
national weather service melbourne fl
1000 am est wed feb 16 2011

.now...through early afternoon...a band of showers over the coastal
waters continues to press north-northwestward this morning with
movement around 15 mph. Areas along the coast from the cape northward
may experience a brief downpour or light shower through this morning
and early afternoon. Rainfall amounts will generally be less than one
tenth of an inch but cannot rule out an isolated report up to one
quarter of an inch under a brief heavier cell. These showers will
generally dissipate upon reaching west of i-95.

While patchy fog has generally dissipated most areas this morning
there could still be reduced visibilities around smoldering
prescribed burns from tuesday. Travelers on roadways in the vicinity
of a smoldering fire may want to slow down if smoke reduces
visibility as this can change rapidly over short distances.

Observations from the data buoys continue to measure 15 to 20 knot
easterly winds with seas between 4 and 6 feet near shore and 6 to 7
feet offshore. A small craft advisory will remain in effect for the
offshore waters through the day...while small craft near shore should
exercise caution.
