The 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship will enter in its next round this weekend at the Oak-Alameda City Stadium - Oakland, CA. The round is expected be a great adventure as the third round of the season ended with the victory of Monster Energy Kawasaki racer but the win was not without controversy. A tough battle that took place between Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto and San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart and ended at the victory of RV. This is RV’s second victory of the season that he earned in the inaugural Monster Energy AMA Supercross held on January 22 at the Dodger Stadium - Los Angeles, CA.
This is the early start of the Championship series and Ryan is ahead of Stewart by five points. The January 22 was a nightmare for Yamaha’s racer as he lost a round that he had almost won. After the first eight lead laps, James crashed on the ground and this crash awarded victory to RV. Stewart’s post race comments showed his regret for tasting dust and he hopes not to repeat those mistakes in following events. Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, defending 2010 champion stands at the third position.
The Monster Energy Supercross Kawasaki Team victory has sent a wave of excitement to its sponsor, Traxxas, a leading Radio Control company who is also offering a Kawasaki KX™450F bike to a lucky attendant of every Monster Energy Supercross event. The third round of the series was also special as it was played at the Dodger Stadium, a venue where Pope had also made an appearance.
The upcoming round of the championship started on Saturday, January 29th at 7 pm that is the fourth race of the 17-race series. The fifth round of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship will be held at the Angel Stadium - Anaheim, CA on Saturday, February 5, 2011 and Monster Energy Kawasaki and Ryan Villopoto have decided to go pink to spread Breast Cancer Awareness.
Monster Energy is now also an official sponsor of the British Supercross Championship and the beverage company will sponsor two find rounds of the British series at the O2 Arena in London on February 5th and Liverpool Echo Arena on February 19th. Monster Energy British Supercross Championship is now being sponsored on the various WebPages of the Monster Energy’s website and their cheer girls will also be there to energize the riders. I'm sure I posted about this series somewhere earlier this year but stuffed if I can find where. Anyways, the title chase is winding up with only 3 rounds of the 17 round series left to go and it is a real cracker.
Pre-season discussion was all about young guns Ryan Vilopoto and reigning champ Ryan Dungey fighting it out and the demise of the 'old' veterans in James Stewart and Chad Reed. Well, after 14 rounds it is indeed Vilopoto and Dungey leading the pack, separated by only 5 points. However, breathing down their necks is Chad Reed who is only 8 points behind leader Vilopoto. Reed has been reinvigorated this season since starting his own privateer team riding a Honda and the clock has been well and truly turned back with him having some intense and controversial clashes with arch-rival James Stewart. Stewart, the winner of the latest round at St Louis has moved into fourth position, 16 points off the lead with a significant chance at taking another title. The fifth and final protagonist is the surprising rookie Trey Canard. Trey sits in fifth, just 20 points off the lead and is in fine form having won 2 of the last 3 races to be well in contention.

I know this forum is mainly about road/circuit racing but the AMA Supercross championship is definately worth a look if anyone gets the chance and with high stakes from here on in, it's sure to be spectacular!

James Stewart took his second win in a row in Seattle, leading home Kevin Windham in second and Chad Reed in Third. Championship leader Ryan Vilopoto finished fourth and Ryan Dungey fifth to leave the top four in the title chase separated by a mere 9 points with two rounds remaining. I hope MotoGP has a finish like this!

note: Unfortunately in training, fifth place Trey Canard crashed and broke his femur and is obviously now out of the championship.

Was an awesome series this year - congrats to Villopoto on the series win, thoroughly deserved. Great season by Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey & Trey Canard. James Stewart had a great season too with 5 race wins, but crashed so many times that he would be very disappointed - made for exciting viewing though!

It was a brilliant series. RV2 really did deserve the title, he was there (nearly) every week and won the most races. Reed was massive, basically a privateer with his own team got within 5 points of taking the title in a year that he was written off as a has-been. Last years champ, Ryan Dungey, put up a strong title defence after a slow start and will have a fantastic rivalry with Villopoto and Canard for years to come. Stewart, similarly written off as Reed, showed again that he is still the fastest supercross rider in the world who crashes too much. Trey Canard stepped up to the big league as the Lites champion and had a stellar debut season. Hopefully he can bounce back from a badly broken leg as well as Villopoto did this year.
