View Full Version : Accessing from a mobile device

There are two main ways to access the forums from a mobile device, such as a phone or tablet.

Mobile Skin
There is a style available which is optimised for phones and tablets. It should appear automatically if you access using a mobile, if not you can activate it using the style picker at the bottom left of every page or going directly to http://m.motorsportforum.com

Smart Phone App
The recommended forum app is Forum Runner this can be downloaded from the Apple and Google app stores. Simply search for Motorsport Forums in there, then login using your usual username and password. If you haven't already registered you can do so through the app.

In addition to Forum Runner we also support TapaTalk for iOS, Android and Blackberry and Board Express for Windows Phone 7

The Tapatalk App has just been updated and it now supports the iPad.

We've now fixed the problem which meant the app would show now unread threads when logging in.

Any chance of having a dedicated mobile URL rather than it just being a style?

m.motorsportforum.com should redirect you.

There is a new version of the tapatalk app available for iPhone.

New features include a quick reply box at the bottom of the thread view.

By default the Latest Threads view will categorise posts into forums, if you want to go back to the old thread by thread view then tap the 'Unread' tab.

In order for threads to load properly make sure Loading Behaviour is set to First Unread

The forums can now also be accessed via Forum Runner which is an app for iOS and Android. Search for Motorsport and Motorsport Forums will be in that list.

This is in addition to Tapatalk for iOS, Android and Blackberry and Board Reader for Windows Phone 7.

Which is best? Skin or one of the apps?

Mark

Apps; as the skin isn't working properly at the moment.

One thing to keep in mind, the current version of Tapatalk on iPhone v1.13 is very unstable. I've talked to the developers and they say there's a new version waiting for approval in the app store right now. But you can still use Forum Runner!

The first post has been edited to reflect that we now have a new mobile skin to use directly with mobile browsers.

Plus we are now recommending Forum Runner as the best app to use to access the forums, as it now has native support in vBulletin. Tapatalk will still be supported of course.

Firstly, using an iPad this forum looks pretty good in its default "full/desktop site" appearance.
However, there is a slight issue with the ads in the top post in each page... While not logged in I see two square ads by "ad choices" they appear next to each other horizontally, which really narrows down the text in the post to, usually, two or three words. Is there anything you can do to make them appear vertically ( one ontop of another) instead?
This isn't an issue when logged in because there appears to be only one ad.
Cheers.

Works great without apps on Android. Maybe I'll check out the apps as well.

Works great without apps on Android. ...

Yes, but much more practical with apps.

Agreed, both the mobile and full versions are fine without an app, especially on landscape view. I use the full version on wi-fi, the mobile theme on my flaky o2 data connection.

Why can you no longer quote others posts when using Tapatalk?

It's working again ;)

Testing.

Edit: hasn't worked for me.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk 2

Most probably Pino lol. I do know that after the last update I was no longer able to quote using it. It was fine before that.

Time to buy an iPhone 4s then ;)

I am still having issues with quotes, am I the only one ? :s

I sometimes do have that problem, instead of text appearing you just get a blank line at the top. I find if I close the app (X from the taskbar) and relaunch the quotes come back.

I will try that thanks

Mark has adopted a new policy of only counting the posts with a real forum contribution within them. Slight adjustments have been made to post counts due to this new policy.

Some posters now have a count of negative 20,000 or so. :)

Well the issue is being sorted in private, apologies for bothering some of you with this. Not offended though airshifter :)

since the forum update i can connect to the forum, but i cannot see my subscribed threads. It immediately throws out "you may not have permission to do this action". Another problem in these forums - if i want to subscribe to a thread it tells me i am banned. Does anybody have the same problems?

When I visit the forum, it looks like I am logged out but when I try to login I get an error message. If I skip login and go directly to a subforum the forum shows me as logged in.
