Always look forward to my trip to the Wyedean, an fantastic event - and a great entry!
This weekend I'll use the Haye Park Rallysprint and the Red Kite stages as a shakedown, haven't been out spectating since the snowy RAC in Nov.

Haye Park has been postponed/cancelled till further notice due to a lack of entries sadly :(

Not sure how things are looking for the Red Kite.

Yes Andy, don't go to Haye Park on Saturday otherwise you may get a little bored!

Red Kite is definitely running and i'm heading there on Sunday.

Wyedean looks set to be a great entry with over 100 entries received in just a couple of weeks :D We (MC-Video) are also covering it for the TV again this year.

That's a shame, but why on earth after a break are there 2 events on consecutive days? Madness - the Red Kite used to be at least a week before the Haye Park event.

Consider yourself lucky. I haven't been to a proper rally (i.e not single venue) since watching a stage and a half of the Somerset Stages back in April.

The Wyedean is one of the few events that I seem to get to regularly so I'm really looking forward to it.

Is that Mr Jan Yeo?

I've not been to an event since the RAC, got a serious case of withdrawal symptoms lol

I'm now Barry :D

I would get withdrawal symptoms if it wasn't for watching football every week, oh and doing a few sprints during the summer.

Doesn't look like Steve Perez will be defending last years win which is a shame, although Roger Chilman Jnr has now purchased an S9 Impreza WRC, he should be pretty damn quick in that once he gets used to it, as he was a regular Top 5 finisher in a Group N car, and Top 3 on his home rally the Woodpecker. Think he stands a good chance of winning some events this year :D

Allyc85
30th January 2011, 11:53
Yea thats a shame about Perez seeing as last year he wasnt happy about the level of competition he was getting, and now we could have a fair few WRC cars out there!

Do you know if the stage maps ive got from last year are going to have much relevance as I expect il just stay in Serridge again all day if its run twice and maybe walk over the road to Sallowvallets all being well.

Serridge will probably be very similar Ally. It usually is. Will let you know when I get some ;)

Looking forward to this again, my local rally. Really hope Mr Burton has a good one on his last ever Wyedean in the Pug Cosworth.
Another day of running around the Foresrt of Dean watching the top 20 Gold star cars.

£5 to park car, with free move to other offical carparks. a very cheap cost for such a quilty event.

Best rally of the season IMO (out of the ones that I go to). Good information before the event with map references to car parks and advice about stages and stage times, and then £5 for the day. Streets ahead of the Sunseeker, which treats you a bit like paying idiots rather than a rally spectator.

This is the reason i have never been on the Sunseeker.

The Wyedean have so right for many reasons

The Sunseeker used to be much better, but with the increasing limits on what they're allowed to use for stages it has become a bit limp. It clashes with an Exeter home game this year (which always takes priority for me) but even if it didn't I'm not sure that I'd be willing to make the two and a half hour trip.

Allyc85
8th February 2011, 17:52
Unless I get tickets for the Carling Cup Final I will be doing both Wyedean and Sunseeker, and I may even pop up to Smeatharpe for a couple hours for the Kynaston Stages the weekend in between ;) :)

Has anyone stumbled across some stage maps? Although I've got copies of last year's so as long as the stages are the same then I should be tickety boo.

Which are the best stages to attend at the Wyedean this year? I'd prefer to attend the stages later in the day if possible, like Mailscot, Serridge2 and Sallowvallets but if there is a very good stage early on, I might be able to make that.

What are the best car parks to use to find the right viewing location. I haven't attended the Wyedean before, therefore I've got no knowledge of the event.

Also, if anyone's got maps for this year or from previous years, please could u post them.

Thanks

Yes all stages are exactly the same. However Speech House, Mailscot and Chepstow Park have all been reversed, but running the same layout.

Worked fine for me, all downloaded and printed off. Is your Acrobat reader up to date?

Also think I asked this last year but looking to get to the stage with the bumpy bit that leads up to a sharp right. Seen it on a ferw of Luke's videos but I've never managed to get there. What stage is it and whereabouts?

I was thinking of looking for that spot as well. Im aiming to get to the double right hander above where it says "beechenhurst inclosure" as it could be that and if it isnt it still looks like a fast approach to the corners :D

If you look at the second running of Serridge, its diffrent to the morning running.
I think but im not 100% its the corner just below the u in inclosure

What a brilliant days rallying, though I was so lucky to get there in one piece! Was overtaken by a transit carrying some building supplys and something flew off the back of it and I swerved a bit too hard towards the middle and ended up sliding and wobbling my way into the outside lane. Brown pants and lots of swearing followed!

Once we got there I have to say it was one of the best days rallying ive had in beautiful sunny weather. The marshalls were extreamly helpful and a good laugh while I got talking to a fair few different people over the day. We started off at the double right handers near car park D and saw some very committed driving with Tom Cave being very impressive in the Evo 10. Then in the afternoon I joined ranks with loads (And I mean loads!) of photographers at the up hill left hander were both Mick Jones and Joe Price both stalled and we got showered in gravel by the white Opel Ascona!

I think it was after a red C2 had passed us that either the end of a steering arm or a track control arm was found in the middle of the road on SS6, does anyone know anything more about this?

MrJan
13th February 2011, 11:43
Had a good days rallying yesterday and, for the first time in ages, actually managed to get to stages as planned and at the right time.

I also watched at the double right handers in Serridge, down at the second one on the inside of the corner. Quite a good little spot and managed a half decent shot of Tom Cave mid-spin. After that we buggered off to Mailscot and watched on a really long right hander quite close to the start of the stage. Was quite a good spot and the best car through was probably one of the 1400s, car 229. Little silver Pug that was more sideways than most of the RWD stuff and really on it. Couldn't watch there for long though and we left once Tom Cave came through so we could get to see the main field through Sallowvallets. Didn't quite go smoothly as we struggled to park and ended up with a gentle jog to the stage to watch at a long right hander that opened up. Nothing spectacular but nice enough.

Sadly I broke my camera (threw the bag and seems to have screwed it) so only got a few photos from the first stage. I'll upload them at some point, plus a video of Mr Burton.

Oh and isn't modern technology great, using my phone and the brilliant tynecomp website I was able to find out who was where at any point of the day, f'rinstance able to see that Burton was 20 seconds up going into the last stage.

Because I was stood behind a tree it meant that I never really knew how the car was going to be setup when it came into my viewfinder, was a bit of a shock to see Tom Cave at this angle.
