I still don't believe that Robin Miller really liked that car. Something fishy was going on. It's almost like he was pushing for it so it would kill the IRL & he'd have something to make fun of until it did.

I think he likes outside the box thinking...but of course your opinion of Miller's is based on your distaste for him...

As for EV racing...I am thinking this isn't going to be a big spectator thing. Not sure if the greenies pushing this are paying attention, but one of the things we love is the sound of a race car. I mean I read the article about one event, 200 m long.....wow, that will pack them in.

Electric cars are interesting, we need to develop them, but I will hold off getting too excited about them racing...

No, my opinion was based on I can't believe anyone actually thought the DW was a good looking car that was going to help OW in any way, shape or form.

The car was indefensible IMO. Ugly, odd, uncool, penis shaped, just plain silly looking. I don't care if it could get 50 mpg, go 250 mph at Indy, cost only 50k and at every pit stop the driver would hop out and bring me a cold drink. The car looked ridiculous.

Miller is a ****stirrer & I think was just salivating at the chance to bag on the DW if were actually chosen. Some times he calls them like he sees them. Other times he lights a stink bomb in the room just because he likes to stir stuff up.

Gary, I thought an apt quote might be "pot, meet kettle"...lol

Except Miller has a point...and Miller is entertaining. Other people, I am not so sure...

The only way that thing "rises" is if its shot into space at Cape Canaveral.

You guys are a riot. : )

I'm just saying that you've got to seriously question someones intelligence or motive if they thought the DW would have helped OW in any way. I don't think Miller is stupid so....

how do you explain guys like Chip and Roger who actually put cash into the project.....not to mention the other 6 owners who signed on endorsing the car

Yeah forget about that form follows function nonsense. It looked completely awful, but aside from that I liked it. You know, forward thinking...
It just needs to be proven before being the only option... We will see it or its concepts in some capacity IMO.

No matter what they do, two images remain. Jonny Quest's jet and Ace and Gary's penis car.

Even when someone photoshopped a traditional front suspension onto the car, it just doesn't look like a race car. I believe most signed on to the IDEA, the concept, and the expected performance (which was aimed directly across the bow of the current formula) before they ever SAW the execution. That thing is an ugly pig only a mother and a porn star could love. If CG is so sure it will perform so well, Let him show up at Indy andrun it, see what happens.

Maybe this was all a very well financed plot by the likes of RP and CG to undermine TG, have him removed from control after even considering such a wild proposal, and then re-gaining control of indycar once he is gone. Maybe they just got too far down the road before the sisters gave TG das boot. Maybe they continued on after they saw a rodeo promoter was given the reigns to Indycar, figuring the end of his 8 second ride would be quick and painful and totally underestimated Randy's ability to succeed in making positive changes.

Hey, it's Monday. There's been letter bombs blowing up all over the area, My football team won BIG, then my basketball team lost to Duke at Cameron, so it's been a little crazy all weekend and it's been a long day already :)

I guess it shows that to let the owners call the shots would be a disaster. I mean, seriously, what were they thinking? Come on, on TF this (that the DW is like some sort of bad joke) was one of the very few things you & I agreed on.

It doesn't appear that the proposed aero packages for 2012 will redefine the sport for a new generation, but they beat the hell out of the DW motorized phallus!

All penis jokes aside, when it comes to the DW I'm firmly in the camp that I'd have no problem with it competing against more conventional cars in a more open rules package that allows both to compete, and if the car then proved a better solution and everyone eventually switched to the same concept then that's fine, but not mandating the thing (even if some design freedom around the concept was allowed).

People have compared it to the Cooper that came over but the difference is they didn't ban the roadsters, they were simply outperformed by the rear-engined cars and the rest is history.

I am firmly of the opinion that the Delta Wing is an ugly concept, but the ideas and technology deserve a hearing, if someone wants to finance it. I am just dying to see how this car would "race" and perform.

As for what we think of as ugly, would the people in 1965 looking at the Lotus Ford Jim Clark drove to victory look at Jim Hall's Chapparel in the 80's and think it was beautiful? How about a mid 90's Reynard with the droopy wings on the Speedway package? Or a modern Dallara in 2010? When you push beyond what the "norm" looks like, you probably wont accept the aesthetics of it. The fact is, We all think the damn thing is ugly, but if the rules allowed it and Chip Ganassi found he could win races with it, it would be out there..and we would adjust.....

What is pleasing to the eye, and what works are not always the same thing. The old saying "what looks right is right" isn't always so...as anyone who has seen a modern F1 car will attest. Damn things are strange looking...

The DeltaWing is alive and well.
