Flying and Scanners

Does anyone know if you may fly a commercial airline with a scanner (race scanner)? The TSA web site does not have any info on electronic devices such as a scanner. I woud assume that if you placed it in checked luggage it would be ok, but then I guess that you cant assume anything these days. Anyone have any experiance with this question.

You can fly with just about anything short of explosives checked, and yes I have carried a scanner onboard with me, you just can not use it at any time.
