S1600 class is going to be WRC Academy at 2011, but I've been always wondering how S1600 class cars match in speed with different kitcars (1,6l and 2,0l also Maxi kits) we used to have in late 90's? Is there any relevant data available to compare these cars / classes (cars run by proffessional level teams)?

To remember kitcars 1,6l were at least: Saxo, Puma, Micra, 106, Satria, Felicia, Corsa. And 2,0l: Xsara, ZX, Escort, Coupe, 21107, Almera, Clio, Megane, Ibiza, Octavia, Baleno, Astra and Golf.

Was kitcars running costs higher than S1600? I still think kitcars very really spectacular, awesome sounds and looks with wide body kits and all.

The S1600 and J-WRC series permantly removed by FIA.

WRC Academy is totally new.. 24 pilots with Fiesta R2's and Pirelli tyres.
Six crews didnt pay a thing other 18 need to pay 135.000€ plus accomadition, travel and recce cars..

Will there be any national series, where you could still use S1600 or kitcars, even maxi kits?

S1600 can still be used in any regional or national championship , Maxi's unfortunately not ... But there are lots of countries where these cars are still driven on a local level , especially countries with a very developed FWD culture such as Italy and France

Nobody has answered my question in one month. So, I have guts to ask it again ;)

Here is my opinion .

Lets try to compare the latest generation of both classes . That would be 1999/2000 for the 2,0L Maxi Kit Cars and 2006 for ( in my opinion ) the best S1600 , the Clio . The 2,0 L Maxi Kit Cars are faster than S1600 ( at their time , driven by aces like Delecour and Panizzi ) , but these are very rare and very few are in top condition , while there are several top S1600 in lots of countries . Furthermore Maxi kit cars are used at local level ( except for France ) so its hard to say about their performance because of driver level . Here is one interesting comparison . In 2004 ERC the championship was dominated by Luca Pedersoli in a 306 Maxi . He is is a mediocre driver , and his title in my opinion was because of a better car . Dont forget , the year 2004 was a transitional year for regional championships , because WRCs were banned but Kit Cars were still allowed in 2004 . At the end , like in all cases , its all about the driver . Just look at Kubicas results , hes been beating several good S2000 drivers without problems in the Clio S1600 ;)

About 1,6L Kit Cars , S1600 are definately faster because they are a direct evolution of that class ( eg. in 2001 , Saxo Kit Car was replaced bz Saxo S1600 )

Pedersoli didn't won the ERC 2004 title, it was Simon Jean-Joseph in a Clio S1600 who won the title. Pedersoli was 2nd and he took only points in the first three rallies, later in that year he had retirements and a poor result in Ypres.
