Quite a few spammers recently got me thinking. Some forums prevent new members from posting links until they've got a certain amount of posts - is that something which could easily be implemented here?

I think that would be a splendid idea....I sure hope it can be implemented.

Or perhaps the first couple of posts from a new member are moderated before being posted into a thread?

We already ask for a 'post' when registering with a description of their interests. This distinguishes real members from the spambots.
