Yeah that part does take a long time, especially with longer rallies. The timing software does make it a little faster though. I find the whole processing the images and calculating the championships etc takes a long time.

Well my rally ended on stage 4; I went slightly too fast into a corner, hit a tree and busted my engine.
Its a shame really, because I was happy with my pace in the previous stages. My main aim for the next rally is to finish.

Thats my biggest problem. Most rally games teach you to go fast, but it dosen't work like that. When I'm doing a stage on RBR, I think "I'm going too slow" I then speed up and crash, like I did on New Bobs II

It sure is, the Corolla feels more nimble than the Impreza and less heavy, which gives me more confidence through the corners.

I still find the notes on Diamond Creek II to be shocking, the calls are accurate (mostly) but just way too late, especially in the rain. Anyway, finished what was left of my rally last night, setting some decent times. I'm interested to see how I went on this one while I was still in it.
Neil J
4th December 2010, 14:56
Well that wasn`t easy at all. I managed to finish this time but I had ever so many moments even though I was concentrating so hard, once the weather turned I found things even more difficult, it was almost darkness in Diamond Creek I couldn`t see a thing. I really enjoyed it though, I love the speed of the USA stages and was really getting a feel for the bad condition towards the end . . . even if my times dont show it :)
NeverKnow
5th December 2010, 16:24
I have done my rally. It was very tough event and I'm glad that I finished. I took it quite carefully and probably wasn't that fast time wise. Most of the event I struggled with the car in slow corners (doing setup changes after every stage) and I'm considering a car change on the next event.
I hit a tree on SS3 when I misunderstood pacenote and thought the road would go left but instead it went to the right. I hit it with the left side but I think it was only cosmetical damage.
On SS5 I had a halfspin.
On the last stage of the rally everything went well until the downhill section. It has caught me out previously multiple times and tried to take it easy but still managed to have a spin and hit a tree. It cracked radiator and caused some suspension damage. I ended up the wrong way and it took me quite some times to get going again. Later into stage I nearly understeered into the trees but managed to stay on the road. With engine boiling I managed to finish the stage, probably the engine would not have lasted much longer.
tannat
6th December 2010, 11:47
Completed my rally. Diamond Creek 1 and 2 caused me the biggest frights.
On DC1 first I drove off the stage into some thick brush-but no damage. Second the car went into a low speed spin when I hit the brakes and tapped a tree-thankfully little or not damage.
On DC2 a roll, numerous drive offs, and I nailed some rockas past the first timing mark at the very end and recived the critical damage pop up. I called for assistance and crwaled to the end, with a very slow stage time.
I've not heard from PS29. I have yet to receive his times...

Rally finished and times sent. All gone well except the last stage which went badly, but could have gone much worse. I managed to drive for about 200m on two wheels and squeezed through two trees on the side of the road while at a bizarre angle so could have been more serious.

Almost 50% retirements on this one-a tough rally.
Should we revisit these stages in the future I'll opt for a kinder route :)
If retirements persist I may implement a superally system...
Bruce D
7th December 2010, 05:48
Hmm, maybe you should bring in a superally system, as a lot of these guys are more rookies than the seasoned MF Cup guys, with all due respect. It's meant to be fun, not over in 10sec.
For my part, it was just bad driving that cost me a finish.
lcd
7th December 2010, 09:04
Hmm, maybe you should bring in a superally system...
Agreed. A superally system will raise a kind of competition between retired drivers and will give them a motive to finish the rally.
Bruce D

The big jump about 1km before the end of the stage-do you guys take it flat, lift, brake, or brake heavy?
It is the latter for me....
NeverKnow
7th December 2010, 12:03
Can't remember that there was a big jump near the end. Do you have the big crest in mind that is followed by 5th/6th gear left and right corner just before the finish line. If that is the case, I take it flat out and sometimes slightly sideways to get into the corners.
If you had something else in mind. Look this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaHeqDuItCI) and tell when it is on the video.
Bruce D
7th December 2010, 12:07
Depends how many runs I do through the stage beforehand. Mostly its a lift, but sometimes I take it flat, especially if I'm really pushing.
pettersolberg29
7th December 2010, 13:52
The only time I've ever done that flat resulted in that tree on the inside of the final 6 right being smashed and my engine dying. Never again!
How about Mineshaft? I always break to a standstill almost then drive over the edge as I dont want to retire. What do others do? I have gone full speed over it before and landed no problem but I think thats more luck than judgement.
NeverKnow
7th December 2010, 16:42
I too almost crawl to a stand still, about 80kph if memory is correct. I have tried going faster but it almost have caused atleast some suspension damage and sometimes some spectacular crashes.
tannat
7th December 2010, 16:56
WHOOPS-I meant mineshaft :)

Mineshaft - I always back right off, maybe try and get a little air time on occasions with a blip on the throttle :)

7th December 2010, 18:33
The RBR Mod Free Championship arrived in Portugal anticipating rough gravel roads, high speeds and big jumps. Every anticipation was met, yet they were also greeted with some wet and treacherous stages which resulted in nearly 50% attrition for the event.
Day one started innocently enough-bright skies and clear stages. Sadly the Hyundai of driver Frozzy was caught out on the first stage-rally over. It was a back and forth day between PS29 and Neverknow with the Peugeot driver (PS29) winning SS1 (narrowly) SS3 and SS4 with the Mitsubishi driver taking SS2 by 1/100th of a second. Series newcomer Bruce D made his presence known with many fine times in the Xsara. Tannat had an off on day followed by Neil J at the days close. Subaru pilot IronRooster retired from the rally on SS4.
Day two was a day of wet and slippery conditions ending a fine drive by Bruce D on the first stage of the day (running the rest of the rally under non points scoring conditions). PS29 swept all stages from Neverknow, and Neil J set some fine times in bad conditions to take third place from Tannat while the Citroen driver struggled with the challenging conditions.
Day three was much the same as two with two dry one wet stage, but it didn’t slow down PS29 as he swept all stages and the win. NeverKnow held on to take second after a somewhat eventful rally, and Tannat was able to take third place as the Subaru of Neil J met with problems on the final day of the rally. A noteworthy mention for Bruce D who set many times on the rally both before and after his accident and retirement on SS4.

cheers man, the problem I have at the moment is I'm going too fast. I keep thinking I'm going too slow, when I'm probably not, so I push the car too much.

The Oz stages are quite slippery-you might first try setting up on the Rally School or non-bumpy USA stages to get a base gravel setup.
Do you think you have your wheel dialed in properly? I'll stress again the use of the filters and fade settings in the options menu for controllers.
Steering angle under suspension setup is another good place for adjusting steering input

You can try and change filter settings in Options -> Controls -> Filter Settings -> Throttle -> Axis in RBR. Try changing Curvature and Curvature 2 to your liking. You can only change throttle response to certain extent (like 25% registers as 15%) but 100% throttle will always remain 100% throttle.

Cheers tannat and well done to all. Again, despite the win its good to see how close the battles were as I only won one stage by a large time period. Good to see my general pace improving - last year I was average, but the long summer gave me a lot of practise time and the acquisition of a gamepad made me much, much quicker. Looking forward to Greece.

Actually I've found that Harwood Forest is a good test stage. You get the car setup for the bumps there and it serves you well in other stages like the Japan and USA stages. That stage tends to have a lot of stuff you'll find on other stages in it and its a 3min stage so you learn how to stay on the road and get the settings to your liking.
