Neel Jani? I'd have thought he would have been in a Toro Rosso, rather than Sebastien Buemi?

He went to A1GP, won a title, but disappeared when the series went bankrupt.

His name sounds familiar. I think I might have seen him racing sports cars (or maybe he was in Champ Car before it folded).

According to Wikipedia, he tested for Force India last winter but was not hired.

It was so cool being able to see Dubai's famous skyline from the car – it was a pretty unique experience”, said twenty-seven year old Jani,

I've got nothing against Buemi, but I'd have expected Toro Rosso to give their next vacancy after Sebastiens Bourdais and Vettel to Jani. This is due to the way he seemed to be much talked about as the next big thing a few years ago, whereas Buemi to me kinda feels like someone Red Bull chose to fill the Toro Rosso seat because there wasn't really anyone much better (who was ready for F1) at the time.

There always seem to be these drivers who are much talked about as the next possible big thing in F1 (whether rightfully or not), and then somehow disappear into a crack and are almost not ever heard or seen again (at least in an open-wheel context)... Neel Jani is one of them. I am sure we can come up with a few names here. Craig Lowndes comes to mind - HE was supposed to be Mark Webber before Mark Webber came along :)

Jörg Müller? Sascha Maassen? Soheil Ayari? Oliver Jarvis? Jaime Green?

Neel Jani has been announced as one of the driver's for an LMP1 effort utilizing Toyota engines.
Look on the autosport site for the story on 'Toyota confirms sportscar return'.
The team is Rebellion Racing and they will use a Lola chassis.
The Lola-Toyota combo has already started testing, according to the article.

I don't know, I remember Jani being a front runner in GP2 but not quite good enough to win, so it's quite logical he's off the radar.
